NEW YORK, USA — On May 26, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow attended an open debate of the United Nations Security Council focused on upholding the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centred international system at UN Headquarters in New York.
Chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in his capacity as UNSC President for May 2026, the session addressed the maintenance of international peace and security. Sihasak emphasized the critical role of the UN-centred international system in protecting globally accepted rules, norms, and principles, highlighting the organization's importance over its 80-year history.
Thailand pledged to collaborate with the international community through three key initiatives: building collective responsibility, advancing UN reforms including Security Council restructuring, and strengthening regional and minilateral cooperation that supports the UN system.
Simultaneously, Sihasak responded to statements from Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister regarding bilateral relations, reaffirming Thailand's unwavering commitment to the Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire and its dedication to achieving lasting peace. He reiterated that Thailand harbors no territorial ambitions against any nation.
