Thai man helps thieves steal gold from nephew-in-lawLegacyA man in Ranong province admitted to assisting thieves in stealing a gold bar worth more than 2.5 million baht from his nephew-in-law, claiming he acted out of frustration over the victim’s repeated displays of wealth. The theft took place on April 10 at a car garage in Mueang district. The victim later shared CCTV footage of the incident on Facebook, showing a suspect wearing a black jacket, black bucket hat, and brown trousers entering a room where valuables were stored. According to the victim, gold bars and Buddhist amulets valued at over 2.5 million baht were taken. He also posted an image of a black pickup truck believed to have been used in the crime in an effort to identify those involved. The case was reported to Mueang Ranong Police Station, with the victim offering a 50,000 baht reward for information leading to the suspects’ arrest. Online users noted that the suspect appeared to know exactly where the valuables were kept, suggesting possible involvement from his family members or someone close to the victim. Photo via Facebook/ รุ่งเรืองทรัพย์เจริญ การช่าง อู่ต่อกระบะดั้มระนอง Police later confirmed that one suspect was a relative, identified as 75 year old Tawin, the victim’s uncle-in-law. During questioning, Tawin admitted his role, stating he was annoyed by the victim’s wealth boasting, including social media posts about purchasing gold and other valuables. Tawin told police that three additional suspects were involved and were former colleagues of his. He said he provided them with information about the location of the valuables and helped plan the theft. Photo via KhaoSod He also explained that the crime took place on the birthday of the victim’s mother, when family members were away from the house. Tawin attended the celebration and monitored the situation while passing information to the group. Police said they identified the remaining suspects and are continuing efforts to locate them. Tawin was transferred to Ranong Provincial Court for temporary detention pending further legal proceedings.

Yala boy with special needs found dead in scrapyard car after four-day searchLegacyA 12 year old Thai boy with special needs was found dead in a scrap car about 800 metres away, four days after he went missing from his home in Yala province. The 38 year old mother, Wanida, reported the disappearance of her son, Yuttasak, also known as Best, to Yarom Police Station on April 12 after the boy went missing from their home in Soi Sub Anan in the Betong district in the afternoon on the day. Wanida told police that Best was a child with special needs who often played in the forest near the house or went fishing at Betong Canal. She said he had never been away from home for this long before. Wanida, relatives and locals searched for the boy but found no sign of him, leading her to file a police complaint. Photo via Amarin TV Rescuers from the Muslim Betong Foundation later found Best’s body in a vehicle scrapyard behind a garage located about 800 metres from his home. The discovery was made after rescuers noticed a foul smell while searching near the garage. They searched the area and found the boy inside a blue Ford sedan registered in Malaysia. KhaoSod reported that the vehicle was left at the garage by its Malaysian owner after it broke down. Police from Yarom Police Station said there were no signs of physical assault on the boy’s body. Investigators suspect Best may have entered the vehicle to play or rest before falling asleep in the heat. Photo via Amarin TV Police believe he may have died from a lack of oxygen, but his body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Officers said the case has not yet been concluded. They collected fingerprints from the vehicle and have not ruled out other possibilities, including whether someone may have lured Best to the scene and attacked him. British man apologises after drifting car near Songkran event

A 55-year-old British man faces licence revocation and fines up to 20,000 baht after drifting a car near a Songkran festival in Hat Yai on April 12, endangering festival-goers.

British man apologises after drifting car near Songkran eventLegacyPolice are seeking to revoke the driving licence of a British man who was caught drifting a car during Songkran celebrations in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province on April 12. Viral footage shared on Thai social media showed a red vehicle drifting on a concrete area near the Songkran event site close to Black Bridge in Hat Yai district. Some witnesses said the driver had earlier been praised for giving way to an emergency vehicle, but he later drew criticism for the drifting. People attending the festival were reportedly confused by the incident. Officers from Hat Yai Police Station later identified the driver as a 55 year old British man. Police tracked him to a house in Bang Klam district, Songkhla. Photo via Facebook/ สงขลาโฟกัส – SongkhlaFocus The man admitted the offence and told police he wanted to do something fun during Songkran. He said he did not intend to cause trouble for motorists or the public and added that he loved Thailand. In a video released after his arrest, the British man apologised to locals for his actions. Police said the location was not a public road, but it was close to the festival venue, where large numbers of people gathered. Officers said the act could have endangered the public, leading them to charge him with driving without regard for safety or causing inconvenience to others. Under Section 43(8) of the Land Transport Act, the offence carries a fine of 5,000 to 20,000 baht, a prison term of up to three months, or both. Photo via Facebook/ สงขลาโฟกัส – SongkhlaFocus Police also forwarded the case to the Department of Land Transport to request revocation of the man’s driving licence. In a similar case in Phuket last year, two foreigners were fined for reckless and dangerous driving after viral footage showed them drifting a pickup truck in a car park outside a convenience store in September. Another case was reported in Chon Buri in October last year, when an Icelandic man was arrested for drifting a rented pickup truck around Bang Saen Roundabout in the rain.

More than 80 undocumented Myanmar migrants found in Songkhla

More than 80 undocumented Myanmar migrants found in SongkhlaLegacyMore than 80 Myanmar migrants were found hiding in a forested area at the foot of a hill in Songkhla, yesterday, April 9, as officials investigated a suspected migrant smuggling operation. Officials acted after village and subdistrict leaders reported a large group hiding in the area. District officers, police and Songkhla immigration officers were then sent to inspect the site. They found more than 80 Myanmar migrants sitting among bushes. None had identification documents or passports, so officials took them to the Na Mom district office hall for screening and questioning. Photo via ชูประเด็นข่าว ภาคใต้ One migrant told officials through an interpreter that the group had entered Thailand five days earlier through a natural border crossing from Payathonsu in Kayin State, Myanmar, into Ban Phra Chedi Sam Ong in Sangkhla Buri district, Kanchanaburi. The migrant said the group was moved in stages by vehicle before being dropped in the wooded area in Songkhla yesterday morning. The vehicles were described as a six-wheel truck covered with a tarpaulin and an enclosed pickup truck. Photo via ชูประเด็นข่าว ภาคใต้ Officials said each Myanmar migrant had paid brokers between five million and 10 million kyat, or about 79,000 to 150,000 baht, in the hope of finding work in Malaysia. Immigration officers are now screening the group to determine whether any may be victims of human trafficking. Officials said all had initially stated that they had travelled voluntarily. DailyNews reported that after the screening process, legal action will be taken in line with the law before they are deported to their home country. Photo via ชูประเด็นข่าว ภาคใต้ Officials believe the migrant smuggling network may have changed route to avoid checkpoints, particularly the permanent Ban Khuan Mit checkpoint, a key inspection point before entering the southern border provinces. They said the site where the group was found was only a wooded area and not a permanent shelter. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage along possible routes to identify others involved in the smuggling operation. Elsewhere, 100 Myanmar nationals were apprehended for illegally entering Thailand through natural routes. The group crossed the border by navigating their way through forests and waterways for four days before getting captured in Kanchanaburi province. Mercedes driver doges petrol bill, station worker forced to cover costsLegacyA woman driving a white Mercedes-Benz allegedly left a petrol station in Thung Yai, Hat Yai, Songkhla, with a 1,000 baht fuel bill unpaid on April 6, leaving the employee to cover the cost himself. The incident occurred at 2.42pm when a woman aged around 30 to 35 arrived in a white Mercedes-Benz and asked to fill benzine 95 worth 2,000 baht. She reportedly later reduced the amount to 1,000 baht as the pump was dispensing slowly. Photo via Khaosod An employee, 23 year old Theerapong, said the woman attempted to pay using a mobile banking app on an iPhone. However, the transaction was not clearly confirmed due to a slow internet connection. The worker told her he would check the payment on the station’s system. While he walked to the cashier, the woman fled the petrol station and drove towards Kho Hong municipality at around 2.45pm. Photo via Naewna Theerapong said he did not pursue the vehicle as other customers were waiting. He later confirmed that the 1,000 baht payment had not been received, although payments from other customers were processed normally. He believes the payment was not completed and has asked the woman to return and pay the amount. He added that he earns 350 baht per day and would need to work three days without pay to cover the loss. If the woman does not come forward, he plans to file a police complaint, reported Khaosod. CCTV footage shows the vehicle entering the station at around 2.40pm and parking at pump No.1 before the refuelling took place. The footage also shows the moment the driver left while the employee was checking the payment. Photo via Naewna Elsewhere, a black Mitsubishi sedan was captured on CCTV at a Bangchak station in Khon Kaen refuelling with 1,000 baht of Gasohol 95, before the driver fled without paying. The petrol station is now using social media to seek information about the vehicle. The story Mercedes driver doges petrol bill, station worker forced to cover costs as seen on Thaiger News.
