Panel Approves 300,000 Baht Aid For Monks Killed In Crash
A provincial committee in Maha Sarakham approved 300,000 baht in compensation for each of 10 Buddhist monks killed in a vehicle crash during their morning alms walk, with funds to be distributed to families within seven days.
Maha Sarakham — On July 9, 2026, a meeting of the provincial committee for victim compensation and defendant costs convened on the fourth floor of Maha Sarakham Provincial Hall. The session, chaired by Deputy Governor Chalit Thipkham and attended by public health officials and relevant agencies, took urgent action on assistance for families affected by a motor vehicle crash that struck a group of monks during their morning alms walk, resulting in the deaths of 10 Buddhist monks.
The committee's purpose was to provide relief and emotional support to bereaved families while ensuring rapid and efficient assistance under the Criminal Victims' Compensation and Defendant Cost Act.
Following deliberation, the committee approved maximum compensation of 300,000 baht per deceased monk across all 10 victims. Officials were ordered to process disbursements and transfer funds to heirs or rightful beneficiaries within seven days of receiving complete documentation from the Department of Rights Protection and Liberties or the Maha Sarakham Provincial Justice Office.
Maha Sarakham province and related agencies pledged to expedite all procedures to ensure assistance reaches affected families swiftly, transparently, and equitably in accordance with legal provisions.
