Seven Rescued After Fishing Boat Capsizes in Heavy Seas
A fishing boat capsized in heavy seas near Samet Island in Chachoengsao Province on July 9, with all seven crew members rescued by the Thai Navy after strong waves flipped the vessel during routine operations.
A traditional fishing boat named Chok Pen Tor Wari 995 capsized in Samet Sai Bay near Samet Island, Satthahip District, Chachoengsao Province on July 9, 2026, with seven crew members aboard, including boat owner Chakri Khoomkrong, 49. The vessel was conducting routine fishing operations when strong waves and wind battered the boat, initially forcing it against a nearby island before a subsequent wave caused it to flip completely. The Thai Navy immediately dispatched patrol vessels to the scene upon receiving the distress call. Natchaya, 20, the boat owner's daughter, reported that the family monitored the incident through a closed-circuit camera installed on the vessel and witnessed the crew casting nets before the violent weather struck. She confirmed that after the capsizing, rescue units were contacted immediately and all seven crew members, including her father, were confirmed safe despite the severe conditions.
