Muslim Group Thanks Officials for Busting Fake Hajj Tour Scam
Police arrested a man accused of running an illegal hajj tour scam after swift intervention by senior officials, with a Muslim community leader praising the rapid response that prevented victims from losing more money.
A Muslim community representative posted a Facebook thank-you message to Deputy National Police Chief Thawi Sodsung, Democrat Party list MP and party leader, and his son Ravit Sodsung (Win), praising their rapid response in assisting the victims of the illegal tour scam.
"I would like to use this space to thank Deputy Police Chief Thawi Sodsung and Win," the victim wrote. "After I sent a private help request around 2 a.m., when you received it in the morning, you coordinated immediately. You asked for a list of victims to verify visa information and didn't make everyone wait long. You sent a team to the area right away. Your swift action allowed the suspect to be taken to Suvarnabhumi Police Station and the case filed promptly, preventing any escape. I also thank MP Sakariya for taking care of us and facilitating the safe return of all victims home. Thank you all for prioritizing people's suffering and responding so quickly and wholeheartedly."
Regarding case developments, police from the Tourist Police Command have detained a 49-year-old suspect from Narathiwat accused of operating a tour business without proper registration. He faces up to 2 years in prison and a fine not exceeding 500,000 baht. He has been transferred to Suvarnabhumi Police Station for further legal proceedings.
