2h ago Khaosod

Brazil's football federation has confirmed that Carlo Ancelotti will remain as head coach through the 2030 World Cup, despite the team's elimination in the 2026 tournament. CBF director Rodrigo Gaitano stated that Ancelotti will continue in his role as contracted, even after Brazil exited the 2026 World Cup at the Round of 16 following a 1-2 loss to Norway. The five-time world champions will now wait at least 28 years for their sixth title, with their last championship dating back to 2002. Although Ancelotti has faced heavy criticism over team performance, player selection, and tactical approach, the CBF remains committed to the Italian coach, having recently extended his contract in May. Gaitano said: "He is our head coach and will remain so for the duration of his contract. One of the main reasons we failed in this World Cup was the lack of a proper and stable long-term plan, which we cannot afford to repeat."

Police in Muang Buriram received a report on July 6, 2026, of a vehicle being vandalized on Thanwacharamas Lane, Injanthon Road, within Buriram Municipality. Officers found a black Ford Everest SUV with severe damage to the rear, sides, and front, appearing to have been struck with a sharp or blunt object. The vehicle owner was not present, but a 45-year-old female friend of the victim remained at the scene to provide information.

According to the witness, the damaged vehicle belongs to Ms. Ning, 40, a municipal administrator in Lamphlayamaht District. The owner fled the area due to fear of assault from her ex-boyfriend, who had pursued her earlier that day. After they argued at a restaurant, Ms. Ning drove to seek help from her friend and parked the car at the scene while being driven away to hide. The ex-boyfriend sent a threatening text message stating he would "smash the window," which the friend initially dismissed as an empty threat. However, when the friend returned with the vehicle, she discovered nearly all the windows had been broken.

A nearby neighbor in a yellow shirt reported seeing a red pickup truck park near his home but was uncertain if it belonged to the perpetrator. Another neighbor mentioned hearing loud crashing sounds around 3 p.m. while it was raining but did not investigate immediately. When police arrived to investigate, he learned what had occurred. Officers documented the scene with photographs and collected statements from the victim, witnesses, and others involved. An investigation is underway to locate and prosecute the suspect.

FIFA Rejects Belgium's Appeal in Balogan Ban Case

2h ago Khaosod

FIFA has rejected an appeal from the Belgian Football Association challenging the suspension of American striker Folarin Balogan's red card ban, ruling that Belgium is not a direct party to the case.

Balogan received a straight red card in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 match between the United States and Bosnia, after the referee reviewed VAR footage and determined his collision with Tarik Muharemovic constituted dangerous play. The 25-year-old would normally have faced a one-match ban.

However, FIFA subsequently announced that Balogan's suspension would be suspended in favor of a one-year conditional penalty instead, allowing the striker to return for the Round of 16 match between the United States and Belgium on July 6.

The Belgian Football Association stated it had received no explanation from FIFA regarding Balogan's eligibility to play and filed a protest in response. FIFA has now formally rejected the appeal.

In its statement, FIFA's Appeals Committee said: "The FIFA Appeals Committee considers that the request submitted by the Belgian Football Association cannot be accepted, as Belgium was not a party to the disciplinary proceedings. For this reason, they have no right to appeal the decision."

FIFA Chief Defends World Cup Penalty Decision With Trump

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed discussing Folarin Balogun's World Cup red card suspension with Trump but insisted FIFA's independent disciplinary committee made the final decision to allow the striker to play in the Round of 16.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that he discussed striker Folarin Balogun's red card suspension with U.S. President Donald Trump, but stated the final decision rests with FIFA's independent disciplinary committee. Balogun received a red card in the Round of 32 World Cup match where the United States defeated Bosnia 2-0 after VAR review determined his challenge on Tarik Muharemovic was dangerous. Normally, the 25-year-old striker would have faced a match ban. However, FIFA subsequently announced that Balogun's suspension had been suspended and converted into a one-year conditional sentence instead, allowing him to play in the Round of 16 match against Belgium on July 6. The decision drew strong criticism that FIFA had broken its own rules. Trump subsequently claimed he had called Infantino to request a review of the penalty. In a recent statement via FIFA's X account, Infantino said: "I discuss World Cup matters regularly with President Donald Trump, just as I receive calls from heads of state, government officials, football stakeholders, and business leaders worldwide. During our conversation, I explained that there is an ongoing legal process involving FIFA's independent committee, and the case will be decided at the appropriate time. This is how FIFA's system works, and it is a principle I will always uphold. FIFA's disciplinary committee is independent. They operate without influence. Their independence is crucial to football's credibility and integrity. What I always do is respect their decisions, whether we like them or not."

On July 6, 2026, Anuvatana Bunyapun, director of Maha Sarakham's child and family shelter, provided an update on the 11-year-old boy who was driving the vehicle that struck a group of monks on alms rounds. The child remains hospitalized at Phra Sri Mahabodhee Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani under legal child welfare protection procedures.

Once medical clearance is granted for the child to return to Maha Sarakham province, he will be transferred to the provincial shelter. A multidisciplinary team comprising legal authorities, doctors, psychologists, social workers, and other agencies will then meet to determine appropriate welfare protection, rehabilitation, and justice procedures tailored to the child.

Bunyapun noted that during an earlier two-hour visit to the shelter, staff could not interview the child about the incident. The boy cannot communicate information and constantly walks or runs around, making communication dependent primarily on conversations through his mother and grandmother. After receiving medical treatment and evaluation, the multidisciplinary team will assess the child's physical and mental readiness before legal investigation procedures begin. Investigators continue gathering evidence to pursue the case through the justice system while protecting the rights of victims, the child, and ensuring fairness for all parties involved.

On July 6, 2569, the Thung Thong Radio Center in Mueang Udon Thani subdistrict received a report from residents that a man was walking through the village carrying a knife and axe, raising concerns about potential violence or property damage. The incident occurred in the Ban Nah Yad area, Moo 6, Tambon Samprao, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province.

After receiving the report, Nai Sannya Yaem Buppah, a state district official for Mueang Udon Thani Zone 5, along with officers from Samprao Subdistrict Police Station, village headmen, and residents, launched an investigation. Upon arrival, they were informed that the man had fled into the forest. Officers pursued him and found Nai Tong, 42, an individual with a known drug addiction history and a target person under surveillance, near Tuum Kham Temple in Ban Non Toom, Moo 4, Tambon Nah Khao. He agreed to a search, which led to the discovery of numerous sharp-bladed weapons and metal rods modified as weapons hidden on his bed. Six long swords and knives were seized for further investigation.

During questioning, Nai Tong, appearing confused, admitted to using methamphetamine just yesterday, claiming he was merely walking without intent to harm anyone. He said he carried the knife for self-defense. He also claimed possession of a green gem stone, which he believed to be a Phaya Naga diamond he obtained two years ago after the serpent deity appeared in his dream and directed him to retrieve it from a canal. He insisted the stone was invaluable and that despite million-baht offers, he would never sell it. He claimed to have graduated from an institution abroad in Nevada and completed three other courses, presenting himself as both a doctor and physician.

Nang Ploy, 77, Nai Tong's mother, revealed that normally three of them lived together—herself and two sons. The eldest son no longer stays at home, fearing his younger brother might kill him, so he lives elsewhere. She herself stays at relatives' homes. In the morning, she saw Nai Tong pacing around the house in an agitated state before leaving. She explained that her son's drug addiction has worsened over the past 2-3 years, and treatment attempts have failed. He threatens her for money daily and, when she has none, brandishes a knife and demands she go begging. Terrified, she fled the house and pleaded with authorities to help rehabilitate her son, fearing for her life.

Police initially charged Nai Tong with possession of Category 1 illegal drugs (methamphetamine), extortion, and unlawful carrying of bladed weapons in public. He was transferred to investigators for further legal proceedings.

Jordan Henderson, England's veteran midfielder, is likely ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to a serious wrist injury that may require surgery. BBC News reports that Henderson is expected to miss the rest of the tournament following his injury.

Henderson was hurt after England's Round of 16 match against co-host Mexico on July 5, which England won 3-2. Following the match, players walked to the stands to thank supporters in traditional fashion. The 36-year-old was transported to a hospital in Mexico City, where medical evaluations suggest he suffered a wrist fracture requiring surgical treatment. Although Henderson will be unable to play for the remainder of the World Cup, he is expected to remain with the England camp until the tournament concludes.

Woman Arrested Selling Methamphetamine to Feed 40 Dogs

Woman Arrested Selling Methamphetamine to Feed 40 Dogs
4h ago Khaosod

On July 6, 2025, police led by Sakdisit Thanakitphirojn, commander of Sri That police station, received complaints about a woman named Aranya, known as Jen Gak Yak, 47, living in Pa Lao village in Sri That district, Udon Thani province. She allegedly kept numerous dogs and was trafficking methamphetamine to teenagers and laborers in the area.

Police investigators from the "Khun Suek" task force conducted a raid on her single-story concrete house. They found approximately 40 dogs surrounding her, emitting foul odors throughout the home. Officers hesitated to approach, fearing dog bites. They convinced Jen Gak Yak to reveal where she had hidden the drugs, warning her that full cooperation might reduce her sentence.

Eventually, she admitted hiding methamphetamine in a brown plastic bag containing 382 pills. As police took her away in a pickup truck, her four-legged "children" watched with sad eyes. About 40 dogs came to the door, with some attempting to bite the officers who arrested their owner. Police managed to escape unharmed.

During questioning, Jen Gak Yak tearfully confessed she resorted to drug dealing out of financial desperation. She began raising dogs five to six years ago after completing a three-year sentence for possessing 62 methamphetamine pills. Starting with 2-3 dogs, the population grew as they reproduced. When neighbors refused to adopt the puppies—as they were mixed breeds—she kept them all. When funds ran out for dog food, she financed a motorcycle and ordered methamphetamine from dealers.

She initially ordered tens of pills, escalating to hundreds. Her latest purchase was 600 pills across three bags at 2,800 baht per bag, which she sold at 30 baht per pill or 20 baht if buying 10 pills at once. She was arrested shortly after.

Jen Gak Yak also admitted to using methamphetamine herself, having become addicted one year ago. She currently uses 2-3 pills daily. She requested relatives care for the 40 dogs or asked them to contact Sri That subdistrict municipality for assistance. She promised through tears that if released, she would never involve herself with drugs again, explaining that financial hardship and her inability to let the dogs starve drove her to deal. She also expressed frustration that her husband provided no support in earning a living.

Thirty-one caregivers for the elderly and bedridden disabled in Nong Kung subdistrict, Mueang district, Kalasin province lodged a formal complaint, claiming they have not received their monthly care allowance for four months. The residents allege that a municipal official responsible for managing the elderly and disabled development and rehabilitation fund account secretly withdrew 239,200 baht, with a former municipal administrator co-signing the withdrawal without clear justification. As a result, all 31 caregivers went unpaid from January to April, losing 107,520 baht in combined compensation. Pairat Yaibang, deputy municipal clerk of Nong Kung subdistrict, acknowledged learning of the situation on the day of the complaint and stated the municipality would take urgent action. He noted that the account was reduced to just 1,700 baht and promised to recover all funds and conduct an investigation. Before the formal complaint, the officials involved had offered to return 107,520 baht and proposed a follow-up meeting to recover the remaining funds. However, the caregivers rejected the offer, demanding full restitution and pressing charges against those responsible. They subsequently filed a report with Mueang Kalasin police station.
