Mbappé Fires Back at Racist Paraguay Senator
France's Kylian Mbappé condemned Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after she posted racist slurs against him following France's World Cup victory, with the French Football Federation pledging legal action.
Kylian Mbappé, France's captain and striker, has condemned Celeste Amarilla, a Paraguayan senator, over severe racist remarks she directed at him. This came in response to racist comments Amarilla posted following France's 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 on July 4. Mbappé scored the decisive goal from a penalty kick.
In her social media post on X, Amarilla used racial slurs against Mbappé, calling him an oppressed Cameroonian attempting to masquerade as French. She also called him illiterate and suggested he deserved to be slapped by Paraguayan players.
Mbappé responded forcefully, stating: "Madam Celeste Amarilla, you are a disgusting woman unfit for your position. You do not represent Paraguay, a nation that has shown dedication, spirit, and honor throughout this competition. You are an incompetent woman creating the worst image for your own country. I will not tolerate people like you spreading hate and racial discrimination across the world."
The French Football Federation has confirmed it will pursue legal action against Amarilla. A federation statement declared: "These words are criminal and reprehensible. Those who use them must be prosecuted. The federation is reporting this matter to the prosecutor's office for legal proceedings."
