Thailand Accelerates Shift To Clean Energy
6h ago Khaosod

Thailand is accelerating its energy infrastructure restructuring to transition into the clean electricity era, reducing fossil fuels and increasing renewable energy to ensure energy security and create new economic opportunities. Government spokesperson Rachada Thanadirek stated on July 5 that the world is entering a new competitive era where nations compete not just on technology or manufacturing, but on clean electricity production capacity. Clean energy is becoming crucial for attracting investment, exports, and job creation, prompting the government to restructure Thailand's energy sector to compete in the rapidly changing global economy.

According to the latest Statistical Review of World Energy from the Energy Institute, wind and solar energy combined became the largest new electricity source added to global power systems for the first time in 2025. Global electricity demand continues rising, with most new generation capacity coming from low-carbon sources. Wind and solar energy grew 18.3 percent in a single year, clearly demonstrating the world's transition to the clean electricity era.

Rachada emphasized that energy transition is not merely an environmental issue but a matter of national competitiveness. Modern industries—data centers, electronics manufacturing, electric vehicles, food production, and export sectors—all require stable, affordable electricity meeting stricter global carbon reduction standards. If Thailand is unprepared, it risks losing investment and export market opportunities.

The Prime Minister has prioritized energy transition, directing all agencies to implement concrete measures including renewable energy promotion, community solar projects, electric vehicle support, smart grid development, energy storage systems, and dedicated energy loan financing to support projects reducing fossil fuel use with measurable results.

The government is laying the foundation for modern energy infrastructure, including smart transmission systems, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and energy management technology to ensure Thailand has a stable, efficient electricity system supporting future industries.

Rachada emphasized that energy transition must involve all sectors—not just government and large businesses. Citizens can install residential solar systems to reduce electricity costs, communities can develop their own energy systems, businesses can reduce costs and improve production standards, while government accelerates essential infrastructure investment. The world is changing now, not in the next decade. Countries preparing clean electricity systems first will attract more investment, create more jobs, and compete better. The government is urgently restructuring Thailand's energy to increase energy security, reduce fossil fuel dependence, mitigate global energy price volatility risks, and create sustainable economic opportunities.

CCTV Footage Released in Bangkok Couple's Deaths
6h ago Khaosod

Surveillance video has emerged showing the final moments before a man and woman were found dead inside a parked sedan in Bangkok's Bangwae district. The couple's bodies were discovered without clothing, sparking immediate questions about the cause of death. Officers investigated the scene while the woman's younger brother provided crucial details about events leading up to the tragedy.

The brother explained that he and his sister had celebrated her birthday together over sukiyaki earlier that day. The woman, who worked as a swimwear sales clerk and had recently moved to Bangkok from Nong Khai to pursue evening education, left home around midnight saying someone would pick her up. Contact with her became impossible afterward, though the man's family could not be reached either.

CCTV footage confirmed the sedan arrived in the alley before reversing to pick up the woman from her house around midnight. After collecting her, the vehicle parked along a wall 50 meters from her home. Around 4 a.m., residents noticed the car blocking an entrance and attempted to open the doors, but got no response. The bodies were discovered the following morning, with no third party found inside the vehicle.

The deaths sparked debate about whether they resulted from toxic gas in the car or possible foul play. The bodies displayed disturbing signs—greenish bruising and foaming saliva—requiring detailed autopsy results to determine cause.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veerasak Jarachai from Srinakharinwirot University's forensic medicine department analyzed the preliminary information. He stated that the primary cause likely involved poisoning, toxic gas, or narcotics, given the foaming saliva present. Two people dying suddenly and simultaneously in a vehicle most likely resulted from poisoning, toxic gas, or drugs, with acute illness being far less probable. However, he cautioned against dismissing the possibility of concealed murder.

This case suggests high likelihood that both victims inhaled carbon monoxide—a colorless, odorless gas from fuel combustion that leaks into older vehicles. Victims exposed to this gas lose consciousness without warning before death occurs shortly after. Bodies typically resemble someone peacefully asleep, though skin color often becomes more pink, and foaming saliva may be present.

Poisoning or drug exposure usually occurs through ingestion, either before entering the vehicle or while inside. An autopsy and blood tests for carboxyhemoglobin levels, plus toxicology screening, can definitively determine the cause of death in this case.

An automotive expert noted that if the sedan had an LPG gas leak, occupants couldn't remain inside. Carbon monoxide from a faulty exhaust system leaking into the cabin remained the most likely scenario.

Authorities await detailed autopsy results from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Siriraj Hospital before drawing conclusions about toxins or other involvement in the victims' bodies. Currently, no strong indicators of murder are evident.

Minister Orders Immediate Stop To Sediment Dumping In Phuket
7h ago Khaosod

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin issued an immediate order on July 5, 2025, directing the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources to urgently investigate reports that sediment from a private property flowed into the sea near Koh Sirae in Phuket City District on July 3, 2025. The minister ordered an immediate suspension of all sediment discharge to prevent damage to marine and coastal resources.

Dr. Pinsak Surasvadi, Director of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, instructed Marine and Coastal Resources Office 10 to coordinate with Phuket's Natural Resources and Environment Office, community leaders, and local agencies to conduct an urgent field investigation. Officials identified the property as private land covering approximately 39 rai, 3 ngan, and 83 square wah, and issued a formal notice to the company managing the land, ordering an immediate cessation of activities causing sediment or material to flow into the sea. The company has been required to implement erosion control and soil stabilization measures to prevent long-term damage to marine and coastal resources.

Sediment discharge into the sea damages coastal ecosystems, particularly coral reefs, seagrass beds, and benthic marine life, by reducing light penetration and decreasing photosynthesis in underwater organisms. This can also impact water quality and biodiversity in coastal areas without proper control measures.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources will closely monitor the situation. If evidence shows the activities have caused damage to marine and coastal resources, officials will take action under the Marine and Coastal Resources Management Promotion Act of 2015 and related laws to protect Thailand's marine and coastal resources and ensure their long-term sustainability.

Thailand Launches Youth Creator Program With AI Skills Training

Thailand's public broadcasting fund and Mahidol University launched a youth program on July 4 to train 600 participants nationwide in AI, media literacy, and responsible content creation across 15 universities in six regions.

Thailand Launches Youth Creator Program With AI Skills Training
7h ago Khaosod

The Broadcasting, Television and Telecommunications Research and Development Fund for Public Benefit (BTRC) has partnered with Mahidol University to officially launch the "Youth Digital Skills Development and Motivation Project" at Thammasat University (Tha Prachan campus) on July 4, 2025. The initiative aims to reduce the digital divide and elevate Thai youth from passive technology users to professional media producers capable of creating responsible, legally compliant content and building a safe media ecosystem.

While today's youth have grown up as digital natives, transforming them into responsible content creators who understand media literacy and laws remains a national challenge. The project was designed to provide hands-on experience and learning from industry experts, creating opportunities that can advance participants' education, careers, and community development.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Paschanan Niramitrchai, head of the research project at Mahidol University's Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, stated: "The digital world today needs more than technology users—it needs responsible digital citizens who are media-literate and can use AI as a tool to create value for society. This project gives young people practical experience and expert mentorship to build skills applicable to education, careers, and community development."

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamonporn Sonsriajarn from Thammasat University's Faculty of Political Science emphasized that while current youth are tech-savvy, they often lack media literacy and ethical awareness. The project aims to develop skills so youth can help their communities and teach digital literacy to elderly residents.

The program will conduct nationwide roadshows across 15 educational institutions in six regions: the North (Chiang Mai University, Naresuan University), Central Region (Silpakorn University, Rangsit University), Northeast (Khon Kaen University, Mahasarakham University), East (Burapha University, Sripatum University), South (Songkhla Nakarin University, Thaksin University), and Bangkok (Chulalongkorn University, Srinakharinwirot University, Thammasat University, Suan Dusit University, and Ramathibodi School of Medicine).

Six hundred youth participants—100 from each region—will receive free admission to an intensive three-day, two-night digital skills camp in their local area. The curriculum covers 21st-century skills including digital mindset development and creative content creation.

Birthmark Doesn't Define Her: Nurse's Inspiring Journey

A nursing assistant with a facial birthmark (Becker's Nevus) overcame childhood bullying to become a confident advocate, inspiring others through her positive mindset and makeup videos.

Birthmark Doesn't Define Her: Nurse's Inspiring Journey
7h ago Khaosod

A dark birthmark on her face is not a life burden. Nong Tay (Luksanaphon Chanthawong), a skilled nursing assistant, opens up about overcoming childhood bullying and transforming from crying daily and fearing to leave home into someone who enjoys life with renewed perspective.

Doctors diagnosed her condition as Becker's Nevus.

"I've had this birthmark since birth. When I consulted a dermatologist, they diagnosed it as Becker's Nevus, but different doctors give different explanations—some call it a mole, others a nevus. The mark is only on my face, it doesn't spread or expand, and there are no abnormal symptoms. However, if it ever spreads, expands, becomes painful or itchy, or develops abnormalities, I'll need further treatment as it could potentially turn into skin cancer. The eye on the side with the birthmark still functions normally, but vision isn't as sharp as the other side—it's slightly blurry, like being nearsighted. But I see normal colors. Some people ask if I see black, but I don't see black; the mark isn't deep. Different doctors gave conflicting treatment advice. Some say laser won't work and I'd need skin grafting surgery, while others say laser is possible but would require many sessions over a long period because the mark is quite large and dark. As for treatment, I have no plans right now because it doesn't affect my daily life, and I'm unsure if laser would improve or worsen my condition."

Childhood bullying left deep scars.

"I faced severe bullying—being called names, teased, and mocked for having a dark face. As a child, I had no coping skills. Due to my immaturity, I'd come home crying constantly, feeling resentful about being different from others.

I didn't dare socialize or approach new friends, fearing rejection or ridicule. Fortunately, my friends were kind and understanding. My grandparents always comforted and encouraged me, teaching me to be strong and stand up for myself. I'm grateful to my family for their unwavering support."

She once resented her differences.

"I felt deeply resentful, wondering why I was born this way and why I wasn't like others. Without the birthmark, I could have joined school activities, danced, been a cheerleader, and participated in beautiful events while dressed up like everyone else. I was hard on myself, but as time passed, I stopped dwelling on it. These days, negative comments are gone, and if they come, I just stand up for myself."

She found happiness by shifting her mindset.

"I'm happy doing my makeup and dressing beautifully. When I go out, I wear makeup on one side. I'm confident and don't feel inferior because I live a normal life like everyone else. When I post videos, people praise me and encourage me, becoming a positive force for those afraid to go out and lacking confidence.

Many people message me saying: 'Nong Tay, you're amazing. I'm worse off than you, but I don't have the courage to go out. I lack confidence.' Their messages boost my confidence. I want everyone to be confident in themselves. We're not different from others. I want everyone to dare to live and be happy. Those people are just passing through our lives for a moment.

We can't control others' words or looks. Don't diminish your own value because of what others say."

At 12:30 a.m. on July 5, 2026, Pol. Col. Yingyos Suwanno, commander of Lumpini Police Station, led over 50 officers from the Lumpini Police Station working jointly with the Narcotics Control Board, Department of Employment, Immigration Bureau, and military intelligence to raid two entertainment venues in Ratchadamri Soi 1, Lumpini Subdistrict, Pathumwan District, Bangkok. The operation was prompted by reports that the establishments were being run by foreign nationals and may have been operating illegally.

The operation was observed by Angkhana Niyomwichai, a Member of Parliament and spokesperson for the Anti-Money Laundering and Narcotics Committee; Pirapol Kanokwilai, a Member of Parliament and spokesperson for the National Security Committee; and Anon Klinkhaew, chairman of the Institute for the Protection of the Monarchy Center, who monitored the officials' performance.

During the inspections, officers found over 100 foreign tourists of both genders inside the bars, most of whom appeared intoxicated. Officials conducted drug screening tests on their urine samples and found one tourist with positive results for drug use. Both entertainment venues were found to lack business licenses, having only recently opened for operations. The managers and staff supervisors were Thai nationals.

Additionally, officials discovered violations related to foreign workers. Some employees had work permits that did not match their registered employers, and some were engaged in professions reserved for Thai nationals. A total of 15 foreign workers and one tourist who tested positive for drugs were charged. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other involved parties and the individuals behind the illegal operations.
