Don't Rush to Sack Slot: Liverpool Legend Redknapp Says Manager Deserves Another Year

Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp argues manager Arne Slot deserves another season despite the club's poor form and uncertain Champions League qualification, saying it would be wrong to sack him just a year after winning the Premier League ti

3d ago Khaosod

Jamie Redknapp, former Liverpool midfielder and current Sky Sports analyst, believes manager Arne Slot deserves another season in charge despite the club's poor performance this year. Slot faces mounting pressure after Liverpool's 2-4 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League on May 15, leaving the club uncertain about securing a Champions League spot for next season. Redknapp argued that Slot should get another opportunity, noting that while the club would face pressure if they miss out on Champions League football, it would be wrong to dismiss him just a year after winning the league title. "If you win the Premier League one year and sack the manager the next, that's not okay for me," Redknapp stated. He acknowledged the appeal of alternative candidates like Xabi Alonso, who has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen, but maintained that Slot deserves patience. Redknapp expressed optimism about improvements next season, citing potential benefits from full fitness for Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and others, while also noting the team's need for a new right-back and fresh energy.

Khunying Noi Slams Critics of SBDC, Calls for Civilian Anti-Corruption Commission to Tackle Graft

Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan defended the SBDC's corruption survey against criticism from state officials, calling for a civilian anti-corruption commission with private-sector participation to combat graft that undermines Thailand's economy

3d ago Khaosod

On May 16, 2025, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan posted a message expressing her strong support for the SBDC committee's genuine commitment to driving Thailand toward Zero Corruption with private sector power. She emphasized that corruption is a major obstacle to national development and the primary cause of Thai poverty and economic decline. However, following the SBDC's release of a business survey revealing that corruption has intensified and undermines business operations and Thailand's competitiveness, the committee faced attacks from powerful officials controlling various state agencies. "The SBDC's courage in revealing these facts should not be met with stones, but rather with flowers and praise from those in power," Khunying Noi stated. She argued that if leaders were genuinely committed to fighting corruption, they would recognize the value of this survey data as a treasure trove of information the SBDC has provided to help tackle graft in government agencies seriously. She proposed making anti-corruption "a national agenda" by partnering with the private sector, whose members have direct experience with extortion by state officials and officials. These business owners know which officials in which agencies demand bribes and how. The government should support the SBDC's participation in anti-corruption efforts, an idea she and the Thai Build Thailand Party have proposed multiple times during election campaigns: establishing a "civilian anti-corruption commission." She recommended using this opportunity as a starting point to "formally appoint the SBDC committee to participate in concrete anti-corruption efforts," which aligns with the government's four T policy, specifically Transformation and Together. Therefore, she called on the Prime Minister to take corruption seriously by declaring "anti-corruption a national agenda" and establishing a "civilian anti-corruption committee" with representatives from both the SBDC and the private sector working full-time, which would benefit the nation and the government. She believed that if the SBDC were empowered and participated in anti-corruption efforts, corruption would decrease significantly, ensuring Thailand reaches #ZeroCorruption.

Timeline Revealed: Uncle Yochan Detained by Cambodian Military at Udon Mueang Prison Before Being Released to Return Home

Uncle Yochan Saynoi, a 58-year-old Thai forager detained by Cambodia after illegally crossing the border in late April, was released on May 15 following coordinated diplomatic efforts between Thai and Cambodian authorities through border co

3d ago Khaosod

On May 16, 2025, it was reported that following a rescue operation, Mr. Yochan Saynoi, known as "Uncle Yochan," a 58-year-old Thai citizen who was detained by Cambodian authorities after entering the Thai-Cambodian border area to forage, has been safely released. This success resulted from the proactive efforts of the Thai government and armed forces, which closely integrated security and diplomatic operations.

The incident began when Uncle Yochan's family filed a missing person report at Kab Choeng Police Station in Surin province after he disappeared on April 25, 2025, while foraging in the Huay Sam Ruang area near Ban Non Thong, Kok Taqian Subdistrict, Kab Choeng District, Surin—an area adjacent to the Thai-Cambodian border. The government immediately expedited the case due to its sensitive border security implications.

Upon receiving the report, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to urgently verify the facts and utilize all channels to assist the Thai national. The Defense Minister then ordered the Army Commander to have the Army Chief of Staff closely oversee the matter, and tasked the Second Army Region to use the Regional Border Committee (RBC) mechanism as the primary channel to coordinate with Cambodia—an effective border cooperation mechanism that helps reduce tensions between the two countries.

Brigadier General Kampanart Waphan Suk, Chief of Staff of the Second Army Region and Thai RBC Chairman, telephoned Maj. Gen. Nid Narong, Deputy Commander of the Fourth Border Defense Force and Cambodian RBC Chairman, before submitting an official letter to Cambodia requesting information about Uncle Yochan's status.

Following verification, the Cambodian side confirmed that Uncle Yochan was indeed detained on charges of illegal entry and was being held at Udon Mueang Provincial Prison. The two sides then maintained continuous coordination through telephone channels and border mechanisms.

Sources indicated that during the 48th ASEAN Leaders' Summit in the Philippines, which the Thai Prime Minister attended, the Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry accelerated coordination efforts to achieve concrete results swiftly.

Cambodian authorities subsequently announced that Thai consular officials would be permitted to visit on May 14, and later confirmed his release on May 15, 2025, bringing relief to his family and residents of the border area who had been closely following the case.

The rescue mission succeeded when the Thai-Cambodian RBC committee coordinated Uncle Yochan's transfer back to Thailand through the Chong Sam Ngam Checkpoint in Phu Sing District, Sisaket Province, on May 15, 2025. This demonstrated the seamless cooperation among the government, armed forces, and foreign affairs agencies working in unity to protect Thai citizens abroad.

Timeline of Uncle Yochan's rescue from April 25 to May 15, 2025:

April 25, 2025: Uncle Yochan disappeared while foraging in the Huay Sam Ruang area near Ban Non Thong, Kok Taqian Subdistrict, Kab Choeng District, Surin, an area adjacent to the Thai-Cambodian border.

May 10, 2025: News of his disappearance began circulating on social media with posts requesting assistance and ongoing appeals.

May 11, 2025: Confirmation that Uncle Yochan was detained.

Legal Experts Clarify: Officials Must Step Down After Court Accepts Case, Yet Senate Votes to Approve Praphat Kongkiad for NACC Position

Legal experts say officials must suspend duties once a court accepts charges against them, yet the Senate approved Praphat Kongkiad for the anti-corruption commission despite his pending criminal case related to the Orange Line MRT project.

3d ago Khaosod

Legal experts are raising questions about a provision requiring officials to suspend duties once a court accepts a case against them. On May 16, alternate senator Akkarawat Pongdhanachilikul submitted a letter to the House Legal Affairs Committee regarding Praphat Kongkiad, who was approved by the Senate with 173 votes to 6 to serve as a National Anti-Corruption Commissioner (NACC). However, Kongkiad is currently facing criminal charges in the Appeals Court related to his role in selecting contractors for the Orange Line MRT project (Bang Khun Non-Buri section).

The case originated before his NACC appointment on January 30, 2025. Kongkiad serves as defendant number 5 in the case. Akkarawat expressed concern that Kongkiad allegedly had pending criminal charges, yet the Senate selection process allowed him through. He questioned whether Kongkiad deliberately concealed the charges to secure the position.

Upon reviewing the NACC Act, journalists discovered Section 81 states that when a court accepts a case against someone in a political position, the accused must suspend duties until a judgment is rendered, unless the court orders otherwise. This provision is further supported by a Civil Service Commission circular dated October 18, 2024, which states that when a court accepts a case against a civil servant, their supervisor must immediately order them to suspend duties to align with the Act's intent.

In Kongkiad's case, the court accepted the charges on September 4, 2024, meaning he should have suspended duties immediately. However, the Senate approved his NACC appointment on January 20, 2025, creating a legal contradiction.

10-baht noodles survive in Ratchaburi despite rising costs

A Ratchaburi noodle vendor has kept prices frozen at 10 baht per bowl for eight years despite soaring ingredient costs, serving factory workers and students who depend on the affordable meals.

3d ago Khaosod

RATCHABURI — A noodle vendor in Ratchaburi has kept her prices at 10 baht per bowl despite the rising costs of ingredients and fuel, maintaining one of Thailand's most affordable meal options as inflation squeezes household budgets.

Jiraprapa Chulert, 59, runs the modest roadside stall near Kobkul Bridge across the Mae Klong River in Tha Rab subdistrict. The cart attracts students, laborers, and locals looking for budget-friendly food. Her menu includes nam tok (Thai-style boat noodles), tom yum noodles, clear broth noodles, and yen ta fo—all served at the same 10-baht price.

Remarkably, Jiraprapa has held prices steady for about eight years despite meat, vegetables, and other ingredient costs climbing steadily. She refuses to raise prices because many of her customers—factory workers and schoolchildren from a nearby institution—rely on affordable meals to make ends meet.

The economics are challenging. After covering expenses, the stall generates only 500-600 baht daily, surviving on high volume rather than healthy margins. Yet the modest income has helped put three grandchildren through vocational training.

Jiraprapa operates from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily or until sold out. Customers praise the value, with one noting that two bowls for 20 baht still constitutes a full meal—far cheaper than most other food stalls, which have raised prices significantly in recent years.

Chaiyachai Dethadecho, a Democrat Party list MP serving as deputy party leader for the Southern region, inaugurated the "Democrat Party Volunteer Lawyer Project" Southern Region office at Sarapetch Law Office and Associates in Phangnga on May 16, 2026. The event was attended by party deputy secretary-general Kunthawan Tantiear, Southern branch chief Sakorn Keouakong, former MP Dr. Pimrapee Puntavichatigun, and Sarapetch Thipmonthian, chairman of Phangnga Bar Association and former MP candidate, along with volunteer lawyers and residents.

Chaiyachai stated that the project is an initiative of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and the party to establish a center providing legal consultation and assistance to help relieve citizens' suffering and ensure broad access to justice. The clinic will eventually expand to cover all five regions of Thailand.

Chaiyachai explained that Phangnga was chosen as the first location because the Andaman area is a major tourism destination generating significant income for the country, making it essential for visitors to have confidence in the justice system. The region also faces numerous disputes, particularly between citizens and the state.

"Many people face legal problems regarding land, debt, lawsuits, or daily life issues but don't know where to turn for help. The Democrat Party wants to provide a space where people can consult and receive genuine assistance," Chaiyachai said.

He further expressed confidence that the volunteer lawyer clinic will serve as a beacon of equality and justice for the people, and the party will continue opening similar clinics across all areas, demonstrating its commitment to closely, promptly, and fairly addressing the welfare of citizens.

Doctors Warn Against Five Fruits That May Harm Bones if Consumed in Excess

A Taiwanese bone specialist recommends kiwi, pineapple, mango, peaches, and tomatoes for bone health, while warning against excessive consumption of watermelon, lychee, longan, durian, and melon due to high sugar or fat content that may har

3d ago Khaosod

According to foreign media reports, a Taiwanese bone specialist has recommended "bone-healthy fruits" while cautioning that not all fruits are suitable for excessive consumption, particularly those high in sugar or fat, which may strain bones and joints.

Dr. Chang Yao-Yuan highlights kiwi as highly recommended due to its abundance of vitamins C and K, which support collagen production and calcium absorption, helping restore joints, tendons, and cartilage—especially beneficial for elderly individuals or those with degenerative joint disease.

Pineapple contains bromelain enzyme and manganese in high quantities, reducing inflammation and promoting connective tissue repair. It suits those with exercise-related muscle soreness or joint mobility problems.

For elderly people and those with low bone density, mango is an excellent choice, rich in antioxidants and multiple types of vitamin C that protect bone cells from oxidative damage and maintain bone metabolism.

Peaches are abundant in potassium and polyphenols, helping balance calcium and sodium levels and reducing bone mass loss risk—ideal for middle-aged women and those with mineral imbalance issues.

Tomatoes contain both lycopene and vitamin K, offering antioxidant effects and helping maintain bone density, suitable for those beginning to experience osteoporosis or those consuming few vegetables and fruits daily.

However, doctors emphasize that despite these fruits' high nutritional value, those with bone-related diseases should consult physicians and nutritionists for personalized dietary plans.

Warnings are issued against excessive consumption of certain fruits: watermelon, despite being refreshing with high water content, has relatively low overall nutritional value and may affect kidney function in calcium regulation if consumed excessively. Lychee and longan are high in sugar and energy, requiring diabetics and osteoporosis patients to limit intake. Durian and melon contain both high sugar and fat, potentially triggering inflammation—unsuitable for arthritis or osteoporosis patients.

Dr. Chang concludes that fruit consumption is not something to avoid; rather, balance and moderation are key. He recommends consuming one to two fruit varieties daily in rotation, eaten with meals or as snacks for optimal results.

Atlanta neighborhood in uproar as over 50 driverless Waymo taxis flood dead-end streets during early morning hours

Over 50 Waymo driverless taxis have been flooding an Atlanta neighborhood's dead-end streets during early morning hours, disrupting residents who question why autonomous vehicles need to circulate through residential areas without passenger

3d ago Khaosod

Residents of a residential neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia are facing an unexpected crisis as numerous Waymo driverless taxis continuously flood into the community's dead-end streets, creating annoyance and concern among residents.

Residents of the Battlefield Drive area report they began noticing driverless taxis circulating the neighborhood several months ago, but the situation intensified over the past two weeks when dozens of autonomous vehicles entered the area simultaneously, particularly during early morning hours. One resident told local media that between 6:00 and 7:00 AM on a single day, approximately 50 driverless taxis passed through the neighborhood, causing many to feel their residential peace was being seriously disrupted.

Some residents attempted to solve the problem by posting signs to prevent cars from entering the dead-end streets, but the effort backfired when some autonomous vehicles failed to properly calculate their routes, becoming stuck between reversing and creating even more confusion.

Beyond noise and traffic concerns, residents expressed worry about the safety of children and pets in the neighborhood, uncertain whether the vehicles' AI systems could safely handle narrow residential streets. One neighbor stated they don't oppose autonomous vehicle technology but believe these vehicles should operate primarily on major roads, questioning why so many driverless cars need to circulate through residential dead-end streets without passengers to pick up or drop off.

After criticism mounted, Waymo issued a statement saying the company values community feedback and has already adjusted the vehicles' route-selection behavior. The company maintained that its driverless taxi service helps reduce traffic accidents, currently providing over 500,000 trips per week across the United States.

However, this is not Waymo's first problem in Atlanta. In April, three of the company's driverless taxis simultaneously blocked an intersection while a traffic light malfunctioned, causing congestion and sparking debate about whether autonomous driving technology is truly ready for real-world conditions.

Intellectual Property Department Pushes Moo Tak's Milk toward GI Protection Worth 5.6 Billion Baht

The Intellectual Property Department is advancing geographic indication protection for Moo Tak dairy milk, a product worth 5.6 billion baht annually from Thailand's pioneering dairy farming region in Saraburi Province.

3d ago Khaosod

The Intellectual Property Department traveled to Moo Tak district to advance the registration of 'Moo Tak dairy milk' as a geographically indicated product, highlighting its premium-quality identity originating from Thailand's first professional dairy farming region. On May 15, 2025, Intellectual Property Department Director Ormorn Sapthavithorn and her team visited the Moo Tak Dairy Cooperative Limited in Nong Yang Suea Subdistrict, Moo Tak District, Saraburi Province, to promote and verify the potential of 'Moo Tak dairy milk' for geographic indication registration, with the goal of adding value and protecting the identity of this premium dairy product that is a source of Thai pride.

The department director revealed that Moo Tak District in Saraburi Province has been a pioneer in dairy farming since 1960, following the royal initiative of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), who recognized the importance of developing dairy farming as a stable livelihood for farmers. The mountainous terrain at 300-600 meters elevation provides cool weather year-round and fertile soil that produces nutrient-rich animal feed high in protein and minerals, making it ideal for dairy farming.

Local farmers select high-quality purebred cattle and manage them with semi-natural systems, providing fresh roughage and animal feed while maintaining strict farm standards focused on cleanliness and cattle health. This results in Moo Tak milk's distinctive sweet, creamy taste, rich texture, and unique aroma, which has been recognized by consumers nationwide for over 60 years.

Today, Moo Tak dairy milk is crucial to the region's economy, producing approximately 259 million kilograms annually and generating annual sales of over 5.6 billion baht, creating income for approximately 4,200 small farms locally.

During this visit, the Intellectual Property Department director, accompanied by Commerce Ministry inspector Kanista Kangsawanich, Saraburi Commerce Officer Chai Choun Charoen, and representatives from agricultural and livestock offices, inspected dairy farms and modern milk production and processing facilities meeting international standards such as GAP and GMP/GHP, including pasteurized and UHT milk production.

They also consulted with Sukont Pakekaete, chairman of the Moo Tak Dairy Cooperative, Suporn Tiannawa, vice-chairman of Thai Milk Cooperative, and dairy farmers to assess the product's GI registration potential. Director Ormorn emphasized that Moo Tak milk is a source of pride for Saraburi residents, representing Thailand's dairy farming origins with the country's largest concentration of dairy farmers producing over 100 tons daily. Unlike ordinary raw milk, this product reflects the authentic identity of Moo Tak's soil and climate, delivering distinctive quality and flavor that are difficult to replicate, while meeting international standards that demonstrate the professionalism of local producers.
