On April 30, 2025, a severe summer storm with sudden powerful gusts struck the Songkran festival grounds at Phong Siri Market in Saraburi's central district. A large entrance banner structure was unable to withstand the wind force and collapsed onto crowds and shops below, causing immediate injuries and chaos. The concert featured 6-7 famous bands including Polycat, Paradox, and Potato, attracting primarily teenage attendees who began securing spots from approximately 4 p.m., creating severe crowding at the entrance. When the evening storm hit with sudden violent gusts, the massive banner structure failed and collapsed onto vendors and waiting crowds, resulting in multiple immediate injuries.

After the incident, Saraburi city district officials and rescue units responded to assist victims. A total of 11 injured people were found—6 women and 5 men. Among these, one sustained critical injuries from electrical shock, and one death was recorded: a 17-year-old boy. Two people suffered scalding from spilled oil at nearby shops. Of the 9 people directly struck by the falling structure, 2 suffered fractures (1 woman, 1 man), 1 man experienced severe electrical shock, 2 sustained head lacerations, and 3 others had various body bruises. All injured were transported to Saraburi Hospital.

The city district officer summoned event organizers for questioning and imposed strict safety measure requirements, permitting the concert to continue under the condition that public safety be rigorously maintained, with organizers held fully liable for any future incidents. The event has caused significant alarm among participants, and investigations are ongoing into the structural integrity standards and weather safety precautions for the venue.

Government Spokesman Defends Prime Minister: Parliamentary Questions Not Avoided Due to Scheduling Conflicts

Thailand's government spokesman defended the Prime Minister's absence from live parliamentary questioning on April 30, citing scheduling conflicts and explaining that responsible ministers are delegated to provide detailed answers instead. The Prime Minister was occupied with prior commitments including police and economic meetings, with the Deputy Transport Minister assigned to address questions about the Land Bridge project.

30 Apr Khaosod

On April 30, 2025, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, clarified the Prime Minister's absence from live parliamentary questioning, explaining that the Parliament only notifies the cabinet of question topics on Thursday morning. Since the Prime Minister and ministers don't know the topics in advance, they sometimes cannot attend due to pre-scheduled commitments, or questions may be delegated to the responsible minister to answer on their behalf.

Regarding the Land Bridge project question, it was assigned to Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Transport, to answer instead because the Transport Ministry is the primary responsible agency. However, the Deputy Prime Minister was occupied with the first 2025 Rail Transport Committee meeting, an important agenda following the Rail Transport Act's official implementation on March 27. The meeting was scheduled a week in advance and produced significant resolutions, including measures to reduce public expenses and protect passenger rights, as well as expediting regulations for an integrated ticket system. Therefore, Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angksakulkiart was assigned to provide clarification to Parliament on behalf.

Ms. Ratchada further noted that the Prime Minister's schedule included meetings with the Police Commission, economic team discussions, and a press conference on suppressing transnational criminal networks, corruption, citizenship fraud, and illegal gambling operations. She emphasized that assigning responsible ministers to answer questions is not avoidance but rather ensures comprehensive information, as the responsible minister can provide complete and detailed data.

Witness Testimony Revealed: Hotel Staff Disputes Deception Claims in Police Officer Case

Hotel staff disputes allegations that a Pak Kret police officer deceived a female officer at a curtain-service hotel, testifying the couple appeared comfortable together with no signs of distress or escape attempts.

30 Apr Khaosod

Nonthaburi - A hotel staff member who witnessed the incident involving a Pak Kret police officer bringing a female officer to a curtain-service hotel has come forward with testimony, contradicting claims of entrapment and emphasizing the absence of any distress calls for help.

April 30, 2026 - A progress report details how a female police officer, accompanied by her boyfriend who is a commando officer, filed a report with the case processing division at Pak Kret Police Station after he allegedly brought her to the curtain-service hotel on Sisamarn Road. The female officer eventually sent a message to her mother requesting assistance, prompting her boyfriend to contact police case officers, who then quickly removed her from the hotel and dropped her in front of a shopping mall on Sisamarn Road instead.

Reporters recently visited the hotel where the incident occurred and interviewed Ms. B (pseudonym), the hotel manager. She revealed that initially she was unaware of any deception occurring that night but learned the next morning when a man filed a report claiming his girlfriend had been deceived. After reviewing the complaint form and CCTV footage, she identified a single Mercedes that checked into room 23. When questioned, the parking attendant expressed doubt about the deception claim, stating he observed the woman entering the room before the man, and they were talking and laughing together.

Ms. B questioned why the woman would not have called for help if truly deceived, noting that the parking attendant carries a radio and could have immediately summoned other staff. The hotel has procedures for monitoring all guests to prevent such incidents. However, the woman did not attempt to escape or call for help. Instead, the man later came out to pay and purchase condoms, yet the woman never sought assistance - behavior inconsistent with being deceived. Ms. B believes her staff account is truthful.

Police have already interviewed all hotel staff, who provided consistent testimony. On the night in question, the couple arrived around 7:00 PM, stayed briefly, and departed. Ms. B noted she never expected this to become news.

She further argued that if deception had truly occurred, the woman would have had multiple opportunities to escape or call for help from staff. However, she showed no signs of distress. The parking attendant confirmed his observation of the couple's normal behavior, noting it did not appear to be a deception scenario, as he routinely monitors guest behavior to prevent such situations.

When contacted by phone, the hotel staff member reaffirmed that both the man and woman arrived normally, parked at the hotel as usual, with the man paying and ordering items. The staff member observed them during check-in and noticed normal conversation with no signs of conflict or coercion. The woman entered the room first, followed by the man. The staff member later delivered items to their room twice.
