Crowds Gather for Buddha Image Casting Ceremony as Heavy Storm Strikes—Lucky Numbers from Sacred Ritual Revealed

A Buddha image casting ceremony at Wat Luang Por Ham Jon in Phetchabun province on April 26 drew thousands of devotees despite severe winds and heavy rain that did not deter worshippers' faith. The ritual was blessed by senior Buddhist monks and resulted in the creation of a replica image for Songkran processions, with donations supporting temple construction projects. Following the ceremony, lottery enthusiasts sought lucky numbers from the sacred ritual for upcoming drawings.

26 Apr Khaosod

On April 26, 2569, at Wat Mai Samakkhi in Huai Pong subdistrict, Nong Pai district, Phetchabun province—commonly known as Wat Luang Por Ham Jon—a ceremony was held to cast a replica Buddha image of Luang Por Ham Jon. The ritual received blessings from Phra Brahm Vachiranuvatara, a member of the Great Mahathera Association and advisor to the Central Region ecclesiastical council, who served as the head of the monastic delegation. Also attending were Phra Tham Sutti, Phra Thepratanakorn, and Phra Raj Atchara Thammametthi, abbot of Wat Mahathat Luang Aramaram and provincial ecclesiastical chief for Phetchabun. Notable attendees included Ajcharya Phan Mun, director of the Phetchabun Provincial Buddhist Office; Nath Suraschadee, an artist from Wonderland music label and 18-time champion; and thousands of Buddhist devotees.

The ceremony began at 1:09 p.m. with Khun Mae Phismai Bunlikkhit, chairwoman of the lay delegation, lighting incense and candles to pay respects to the Triple Gem. The monks chanted Buddhist sutras, with Phra Brahm Vachiranuvatara blessing the image. During the ritual, a powerful summer windstorm brought heavy rain, yet the faithful remained undeterred and stayed until the ceremony concluded. Afterward, Phra Raj Atchara Thammametthi extinguished the ceremonial candles, scattered blessed rice and flowers over the Buddha image, and sprinkled sacred water in blessing.

According to Phra Kru Plad Pariyatti Watthan, assistant abbot of Wat Mahathat Luang Aramaram and ecclesiastical director of Wat Mai Samakkhi, the image was commissioned after two women from Khon Kaen province prayed to Luang Por Ham Jon for help selling their land. After their prayers, the land sold within days, prompting them to commission this replica image to be paraded during Songkran festival celebrations. The temple also created a commemorative image that was blessed during the casting ceremony and made available for veneration, with donations supporting the construction of a new ordination hall currently underway.

Lottery enthusiasts gathered after the ceremony to interpret numbers from the sacred ritual, with various participants seeing numbers such as 79 and 76 as lucky digits for the May 2 drawing.

Wan Muhammadnoor Demands Justice in Assassination Attempt on MP Kamalsakdi, Exposes Dark Forces Abusing State Power

A ruling party leader demands justice after an assassination attempt on a Narathiwat MP in March, alleging powerful figures abused state resources to target the lawmaker for his human rights work.

26 Apr Khaosod

At Pattani University's annual assembly on April 26, 2569, Wan Muhammadnoor Matha delivered closing remarks with strong political positions, particularly addressing the March 20 assassination attempt on Narathiwat MP Kamalsakdi Leewamoh of the ruling party. Muhammadnoor told party members that victory lies not just in upcoming elections within four years, but in fighting against injustice threatening those who serve the people.

"What we must fight for today is justice against corrupt individuals, those with influence, those who abuse state power, and those who misuse money to destroy people fighting for humanity and human rights, like our MP Kamalsakdi," he stated, warning that failure to secure justice would undermine public trust in the party.

Muhammadnoor drew parallels to events 50 years prior when former Narathiwat MP Sombat Eamviroj was assassinated outside his home for championing Muslim causes. He noted that Narathiwat's strategic border location makes it vulnerable to power abuse and violence against opponents.

He revealed that while five suspects have been arrested, including a sergeant apprehended in Myanmar, the masterminds remain at large. "How could a vehicle appear on its own? How could a gun come on its own? How could strangers shoot if no one orchestrated it?" He suggested the orchestrators are those who lost influence from Kamalsakdi's work as chairman of the law and human rights committee.

Muhammadnoor criticized the perpetrators' arrogance in using state vehicles and rejected claims the shooter had a change of heart, calling them lies from a hired international assassin. He confirmed the party would pursue the case fully, joining as co-plaintiff with state prosecutors, expecting fierce legal battles through the Supreme Court.

Delivery rider raises alarm after refusing to leave and requesting to visit customer's room to see cat

A 24-year-old nurse in Udon Thani filed a police report after a food delivery rider allegedly refused to leave her dormitory and sent increasingly concerning messages, including requests to visit her room under the pretext of seeing a cat she does not own. The rider fled when police were contacted and has since avoided questioning. The woman, who felt threatened by the interaction, declined to consume the delivered food and plans to formally press charges.

26 Apr Khaosod

UDON THANI — A 24-year-old nurse has sought police assistance after a food delivery rider allegedly refused to leave after completing a delivery and later sent messages asking to go up to her room to see her cat, despite her not owning one.

Police from Muang Udon Thani Police Station were alerted by the 191 emergency centre at around 13:00 on 26 April 2026 and were dispatched to a dormitory in Muang district after the woman reported feeling unsafe.

At the scene, officers found the woman, a nurse at a state hospital in Udon Thani, in a distressed state. CCTV footage and chat messages between her and the rider were collected as evidence.

The rider, who had already left the scene, reportedly fled after learning that police had been contacted. Officers later attempted to contact him by phone, but he declined to meet police, saying he was not available.

According to the woman's account, she had ordered a 105-baht dry sukiyaki meal via a delivery application and instructed the rider to leave the food at the stairs of her dormitory.

She said the rider later asked for her Line account, followed by further messages requesting contact details. After she asked for his phone number instead, he sent it and continued messaging her.

The woman said the rider later texted that he was still outside the dorm and asked which room to deliver the food to, adding that he wanted to go up to see her cat. She said she does not own a cat.

Feeling uncomfortable, she told him that her boyfriend would come down to collect the food. The rider then allegedly sent a message expressing disappointment.

The woman said she later saw the rider still waiting on his motorcycle outside the dorm and ran back inside out of fear, before calling police for help.

She added that she did not dare consume the food and planned to file a formal complaint after finishing her shift, requesting police to summon the rider for questioning over his intentions.

Four men found dead after entering old well in palm plantation in Phang Nga

Four men died after entering an old water well to perform cleaning work at a palm plantation in Kuraburi district, Phang Nga province. Authorities believe the victims suffocated due to oxygen deprivation in the confined space before losing consciousness and drowning. Rescue teams eventually recovered all four bodies, with the deceased ranging in age from 34 to 51 years old.

26 Apr Khaosod

PHANG NGA — Four men have been found dead after entering an old water well to clean it inside a palm plantation in Kuraburi district, with authorities initially suspecting suffocation due to a lack of oxygen.

Rescue workers were called to a shallow well in a palm plantation in Village 11, Ban Saeng Tham, Khura subdistrict, after reports that several people had died inside the approximately six-metre-deep structure on 26 April 2026.

According to initial reports, the victims had entered the well to carry out cleaning work before reportedly losing consciousness and drowning. Authorities believe the deaths were caused by oxygen deprivation, as the confined space inside the well had limited airflow.

Rescue teams were initially unable to retrieve the bodies due to the narrow structure and low oxygen levels inside the well. Officials from the Phang Nga Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office were later deployed with specialised equipment to assist the operation.

All four bodies were eventually recovered. The deceased were identified as men aged between 34 and 51.

Amorntep Preekham, acting chief of the Phang Nga Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, said the operation involved coordination among multiple agencies. He said initial assessments suggest the victims likely died from suffocation inside the well, adding that a detailed investigation will be carried out.

Woman Shares Horrifying Tale of Fish Bone Stuck in Throat for 11 Days—Thought It Moved Down, Then It Suddenly Pierce Through Her Neck

A Thai woman experienced an extraordinary medical incident when a fish bone she believed had passed through her throat for 11 days suddenly pierced through the skin on her neck behind her ear. After consulting three doctors who assured her the bone was no longer present due to her lack of throat pain while eating, the sharp fish bone unexpectedly protruded from her skin, which she then successfully removed herself. The woman expressed relief that the bone exited externally rather than traveling toward her brain.

26 Apr Khaosod

A Facebook user named Rungravee Chaiwirattikul has shared a cautionary account of a fish bone that became lodged in her throat starting April 14. She consulted three doctors who all reassured her the bone had likely already passed, which she initially believed since eating caused no pain in her throat. However, she remained puzzled by persistent pain on the outside of her neck behind her ear and daily pressed the area to investigate. By April 24 at 2 a.m., she became convinced it was indeed a fish bone but was afraid to pull it out for fear of damaging blood vessels or nerves.

On the morning of April 25, while washing her face, she felt something prick her hand—the fish bone had pierced through the skin behind her ear. Upon closer inspection, she saw a needle-sharp bone protruding from her skin. After carefully confirming it was the fish bone, she gently pulled it out, and blood rushed out as the bone came free, visible just like in an X-ray image. She noted that fortunately the bone exited through her neck rather than penetrating toward her brain.

La River Basin Network Declares 'Communities Not Mines' Position Against Fluorite Mining

Over 400 members of the La River Basin Network in Mae Hong Son Province held a demonstration on April 26 to oppose a proposed fluorite mining project, declaring their position of 'Communities Not Mines' to protect their environmental and housing rights. The network, comprising six indigenous communities reliant on the La River for their livelihoods and cultural practices, warned that mining would severely impact water resources, ecosystems, and community health. The demonstration marked four years of community resistance to the mining project, with participants emphasizing that the river is essential to their survival and way of life.

26 Apr Khaosod

On April 26, 2026, the La River Basin Network, in collaboration with EarthRights International, Amnesty International Thailand, and the Community and Local Rights Center (CPCR), organized an event titled '4 Years of Communities Not Mines—La Basin Residents Reject Mining' to demonstrate the communities' position against a private company's fluorite mining project.

The network announced a joint declaration comprising people from six communities: Huay Makawk, Hua La, Santisuek, Santipatthana, Mae La Luang, and Tung Paka communities, with representatives from three additional communities providing support at Hua La village and bridge in Mae La Luang subdistrict, Mae La Noi District, Mae Hong Son Province. More than 400 people participated in the march, voicing their message: 'Communities Not Mines.'

Wilaipon Khuanyankitpheompun, a youth representative from the La River Basin Network, stated that for the people of the La Basin, 'water sources are like lifeblood, soil is the body, and forests are the breath' that has nurtured their lives, spirits, and cultural ways for generations.

However, the network is concerned that if capital investors proceed with the fluorite mining project in the area, it would severely impact the ecosystem, livelihoods, and culture of the La Basin communities. This concern has prompted the network to jointly declare their opposition to mining and reaffirm their stance: 'Communities Not Mines.'

The La River Basin Network was formed by indigenous communities from six villages in Santikhiri and Mae La Luang subdistricts, Mae La Noi District, Mae Hong Son Province, officially organizing in 2022. The communities have lived and worked in this area for generations, with agriculture as their primary occupation, maintaining traditions and cultural practices aligned with sustainable use of land, water, and forest resources since ancestral times.

The proposed fluorite mining project could severely impact community livelihoods, the environment, and pose risks of chemical contamination in water sources.

Sakdda Khuanyankitpheompun, headman of Huay Makawk community and representative of the La River Basin Network, stated on the fourth anniversary of resistance: 'Unity is our strength because the La River is a vital natural resource and environment that sustains life in the La Basin. The fluorite mining project would create numerous problems and impacts for us. The water source is most important, so we urge everyone to fight together so this ends with our generation, not theirs.'

The proposed mining area is located in the upper reaches of the La River, a critical water source for the local ecosystem and communities' survival. Mining operations could widely impact resources affecting at least ten communities in Santikhiri and Mae La Luang subdistricts, Mae La Noi District, Mae Hong Son Province, including impacts on water resources, the environment, and public health.
