State Railway of Thailand Addresses Freight Train Collision with Bus at Asok-Din Daeng Intersection; 8 Dead, 32 Injured with Maximum Care Provided
A freight train collided with a public bus at a Bangkok level crossing on May 16, killing eight people and injuring 32, with the impact triggering a severe fire and disrupting multiple train services.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has issued a statement regarding an accident involving freight train number 2126 (Laem Chabang Port–Bang Sue route) that collided with a public bus between Khlong Tan and Makkasan stations at the Asok-Din Daeng level crossing on May 16, 2025, at 3:41 p.m. The collision triggered a severe fire in the area, with damage assessment still underway. Following the incident, SRT personnel immediately mobilized to the scene and coordinated with fire and rescue services to extinguish the blaze and assist those affected.
The accident has impacted several train services: Train 277 Bangkok (Hua Lamphong)–Kabin Buri arrived at Makkasan at 3:44 p.m. and is waiting to resume; Train 379 Bangkok–Chachoengsao was scheduled to depart at 4:35 p.m. and is waiting to resume; Train 391 Bangkok–Chachoengsao was scheduled to depart at 4:55 p.m. and is waiting to resume; Train 282 Kabin Buri–Bangkok arrived at Huamark at 4:44 p.m., 6 minutes late, and is waiting to resume; Train 284 Chumphon–Bangkok arrived at Huamark at 5:36 p.m. on schedule and is waiting to resume; and Train 371 Bangkok–Prachuap Khiri Khan was scheduled to depart at 5:40 p.m. and is waiting to resume.
Due to the impact of the incident, passenger transfers may be necessary on some trains. The SRT is coordinating with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to provide shuttle bus service from Bangkok Station to Huamark Station to facilitate onward travel. SRT staff will provide close support and assistance to passengers throughout the process.
