Ronald Koeman Steps Down As Netherlands Coach After World Cup Exit

Ronald Koeman resigned as Netherlands coach after the team's penalty loss to Morocco in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, ending his tenure following criticism over his defensive tactics.

3h ago Khaosod

Ronald Koeman has announced his resignation as head coach of the Dutch national team following the Netherlands' disappointing elimination in the last 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Dutch side finished their campaign after losing to Morocco 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regular time and extra time.

Koeman faced intense criticism for his performance, particularly over defensive tactics and his recent shift to a back-five formation. On June 30, Koeman confirmed his departure in a personal post as head coach of the national team.

In his statement, Koeman said: "I want to thank all the players I had the opportunity to work with. Your dedication, character, and trust have been my inspiration every day."

"Thank you to my coaching staff, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), all the staff behind the scenes, and the clubs I've had the privilege to work with."

"But above all, thank you to all the fans. Thank you for your support, especially during difficult times. It has been a tremendous honor to represent the Dutch national team as a coach."

"I say farewell with mixed feelings. Of course, I would have wanted to end my time with the Dutch national team as world champions. Unfortunately, that dream did not come true."

"But above all, pride is what remains. Pride in everything football has given me, in the people I have met, and in the fact that I could turn my greatest passion into a career."

"Thank you for all the years filled with trust, criticism, support, disappointment, and success."

Bordeaux Drops to Regional League Over Financial Crisis

Former French champion Bordeaux drops to the sixth-tier regional league after failing to meet financial recovery requirements set by the national football authority. The club, which won six Ligue 1 titles, has appealed the DNCG's decision.

6h ago Khaosod

Bordeaux, the former Ligue 1 champion, faces a deeper fall after being banned from all national competitions and must compete in the regional league next season. The French club has endured prolonged financial troubles. In 2024, management requested to end the club's professional status, forcing relegation to Championnat National 1 (the semi-professional fourth tier). However, after two seasons in this league, Bordeaux's finances have not recovered. France's national football management authority (DNCG), which oversees club financial compliance, has now imposed new sanctions. The DNCG stated that Bordeaux must raise 9 million euros to balance its budget for the past season and secure funding for the next season. The club failed to meet this requirement and received the punishment. As a result, Bordeaux has been demoted to Régional 1 (the sixth-tier regional league), a step below semi-professional football. The club has announced it has filed an appeal. Bordeaux previously won the French top-flight title six times, most recently in the 2008-09 season, and developed renowned players including Zinedine Zidane, Alain Giresse, Christophe Dugarry, and Bixente Lizarazu.

Haaland Seals Norway's World Cup Spot Against Brazil

Erling Haaland's 86th-minute goal gave Norway a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast on July 1, sending the Scandinavians to the World Cup Round of 16 to face Brazil.

6h ago Khaosod

Ivory Coast mounted a strong comeback attempt after falling behind, but Erling Haaland's decisive late-game finish sealed their elimination from the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 on July 1 at AT&T Stadium in Texas, USA.

Ivory Coast, coached by Emerse Fae and fielding a 4-1-4-1 formation, dominated possession in the first half with multiple chances to breach Norway's defense. However, Antonio Nusa capitalized on a rare opening in the 39th minute to give Norway a 1-0 lead.

Tottenham Signs Fernandes From West Ham For £85 Million

Tottenham completed a £85 million signing of midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham as part of an aggressive summer recruitment drive that also included three free agents.

7h ago Khaosod

Tottenham Hotspur has completed the signing of midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million, according to BBC reports. The Premier League club has acquired the midfielder from their London rivals in a substantial transfer deal as they aggressively strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Spurs, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, are undergoing a major recruitment drive. The club previously spent £52 million to acquire defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, another Premier League club.

Beyond the Fernandes deal, Spurs have also secured three free agents: goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Burnley, left-back Andy Robertson from Liverpool, and defender Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth.

With West Ham relegated to the Championship for next season, there is significant risk of player departures from the club. Fernandes had previously been linked with Manchester United, another Premier League side, but the Red Devils were unwilling to match the fee Spurs agreed to pay.

On the same day, Spurs confirmed they have extended Czech goalkeeper prospect Antonín Kinský's contract by an additional five years, despite his recent arrival at the club in 2025.

Body Of 72-Year-Old Found After Four Days In Chao Phraya River

A 72-year-old man who fell from a cargo boat on the Chao Phraya River near Ayutthaya on June 26 was found dead four days later, entangled in water hyacinth near a dock in Bang Thai District.

7h ago Khaosod

At 8:30 p.m. on June 30, 2569, Deputy Sergeant Major Thaworn Saengjai, investigation officer at Chang Yai Police Station in Ayutthaya Province, received a report of a body floating in the Chao Phraya River near a cargo dock in Ratchakram Subdistrict, Bang Thai District, Ayutthaya. Officers from the investigation unit, forensic team, and Ayutthaya Unity volunteers responded to the scene.

At the location, police found a cargo-laden boat docked with large amounts of water hyacinth floating nearby. The male body was found face-down entangled in the vegetation, with signs of bloating and decomposition. Officials estimated the man had been dead for approximately 4-5 days. Family members identified the deceased as Prasert, 72, from Tha Ruea District, Ayutthaya Province, who had fallen from a cargo boat and gone missing on the night of June 26.

Ms. Krisara, 50, the victim's daughter-in-law, revealed that on the day of the incident, the family was operating four motorboats towing an empty cargo vessel bound for Ang Thong Province. Prasert was responsible for securing the ropes on the cargo boat. He was last seen around 8 p.m. while the boats were passing under a bridge in Po Taeng Subdistrict, Bang Thai District, before disappearing. When the boats arrived at the dock in Pa Mok District, Ang Thong, workers called for him to secure the ropes but he could not be found, prompting a search effort.

Krisara noted that despite Prasert's long experience working on boats, he had vision problems—blind in one eye with poor vision in the other. The incident occurred at night, which may have contributed to him losing his footing and falling overboard. However, no witnesses were present during the incident, so police investigations are underway to determine the exact cause.

Saphakpon Unsungnoen, an official from the Ayutthaya Unity Association, stated that following reports from dock workers of a body caught near the pier, they investigated and found physical characteristics matching the 72-year-old man relatives had requested help finding. When family members arrived for identification, they confirmed the body through clothing and physical features.

Police initially examined the scene and interviewed family members before sending the body for detailed autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pathum Thani Province to determine the cause of death according to legal procedures, before returning it to relatives for religious rites.
