TV Station Director Files Police Report Against Renowned Amulet Collector for Defamation and Harassment

TV station director Pornthipa Supadtanakul filed a police report against an amulet collector for defamation and harassment via Facebook, claiming threats and false accusations of scamming linked to her distribution of replica Somdet amulets

7 May Khaosod

On May 7, 2025, at 9:30 AM, Pornthipa Supadtanakul, director of Fah Hai TV station and chairman of the Happiness Foundation (known as "Po Fa"), arrived at the central police investigation office with her lawyer, bringing evidence of threats and harassment she received from a well-known amulet collector's Facebook page to file charges.

Po Fa revealed that the page has engaged in derogatory and discriminatory behavior, leading others to believe she is a scammer. She distributes replica Somdet amulets to the public and temples throughout Thailand, totaling over 2,000 locations, which has caused significant disruption to the amulet trading community.

The Facebook page has repeatedly attacked her, posting threatening messages on her page suggesting they would kidnap her. She had already planned legal action but had not filed a report until recently, when she received LINE calls threatening to involve the DSI and special police units to arrest her. She decided to proceed with filing charges.

Charges filed include defamation through advertising, contempt, and violations of the Computer Crime Act for uploading false information, totaling three counts. She is seeking 200 million baht in damages, which she vows to donate to charity if she wins.

Po Fa also called for the DSI to investigate the page for falsely referencing government agencies. She believes the threats aim to prevent her from distributing amulets or discussing Somdet amulets. She emphasized that authentic amulets derive value from Buddhist merit, not price, and true amulets cost nothing. Her actions have disrupted the amulet market, making her a target for those invested in the trade. She denied capitalizing on current trending news and confirmed she is cooperating with investigators.

Jirawuth Suanwanit, Deputy Director-General of the Internal Trade Department under the Ministry of Commerce, noted that the department plays a vital role in maintaining price stability and ensuring market fairness, particularly for agricultural products, which form the heart of Thailand's economy. Lampang Police Arrest Methamphetamine Dealer in Emotional Scene as Disabled Mother Asks: How Many Years in Prison—Who Will Care for Me?

Police arrested a 43-year-old methamphetamine dealer in Lampang after seizing about 2,000 pills, with an emotional confrontation occurring when his disabled mother asked who would care for her during his expected decade-long prison sentence

7 May Khaosod

On May 7, 2026, Col. Phairojn Thongkhao, commander of Lampang Province's Narcotics Suppression Unit, ordered Lt. Naphatthorn Saenchaichum and his investigation team to conduct drug trafficking operations in the area, working with officers from Khlong Ngong Police Station and other units. Police apprehended a 43-year-old suspect known as Tong (alias) from Chomphu Subdistrict, Muang Lampang District, on charges of selling Class 1 narcotics—methamphetamine—for commercial purposes without authorization. He led officers to a hidden location in his residence before they seized approximately 2,000 methamphetamine tablets.

During the search, Tong's disabled mother, who uses a wheelchair, entered the scene and sadly asked her son, "How many years will you be imprisoned?" Tong replied weakly, "Probably around ten years or more." His mother fell silent before asking with a trembling voice, "Then who will take care of me?" Tong could only lower his head, unable to respond as officers and those present felt the weight of the moment.

Before the arrest, police had already apprehended a 39-year-old woman named Baem (alias) from Pong Saen Tong Subdistrict, Muang Lampang District, with 2 methamphetamine tablets in her possession. Baem confessed the drugs were hers and that she had purchased them from Tong, her boyfriend. Officers then brought Tong to identify himself, leading to the discovery of the large methamphetamine cache. Both suspects were taken into custody with evidence forwarded to prosecutors for legal proceedings.

Quick-Thinking Driver Stops to Help Car with Engine Overrun, Thick Smoke Blankets Road Before Fire is Put Out

A driver quickly stopped to help another vehicle experiencing engine overrun by blocking its air filter with cloth, preventing potential fire damage on a Southern Thailand roadside.

7 May Khaosod

Quick thinking truly matters. A young driver quickly pulled over to help a car experiencing engine overrun, with thick white smoke pouring across the road. He opened the hood and used heavy cloth to block the air filter until the engine shut down.

On May 7, 2026, Facebook user "Bank Thangnak" posted a video of him assisting a vehicle with engine overrun parked on the roadside. He commented: "I couldn't stand watching this. Most people don't know what to do and panic."

In the video, while driving, the poster noticed smoke coming from a car ahead, so he quickly pulled over behind it and discovered the engine was overrunning with thick white smoke billowing across the road.

The poster then rushed to the front, asked the owner to open the hood, and used thick cloth to cover the air filter until the overrun condition stopped.

Engine overrun (Engine Overrun) occurs when a diesel engine races on its own, exceeding safe RPM limits without control, producing thick white smoke and unable to shut down. It's caused by engine oil leaking into the combustion chamber, forcing the engine to burn oil instead of fuel—risking severe engine damage. The engine must be shut down immediately to prevent serious damage.

According to Khru Tung from We Love Car Thailand, the best method is to cut off air supply by blocking the air filter, which better protects the engine and transmission system.

The steps are as follows: 1. Stay calm 2. Shift to neutral; automatic shifts to N 3. Park safely on the roadside 4. Open the hood 5. Open the air filter cover 6. Use thick cloth or clothing to block the air filter opening; manual transmissions can be placed in 5th gear then the clutch released to stall the engine 7. Once the engine stops, immediately take it to a mechanic. Don't attempt to drive it further—take it to a service center for inspection and repair first.

Prevention: Vehicles with over 150,000 km or used for more than 5 years should be serviced for inspection, cleaning, testing of the fuel injection system, and replacement of worn components to prevent engine overrun issues. Vehicle owners should regularly check engine oil before use; if consumption increases noticeably or fuel smell appears mixed in the oil, immediately see a mechanic for inspection without delaying further use. Otherwise, you risk encountering this situation.

Brazen US Thieves Disguised as Workers Steal 320,000-Baht Steel Fence, Distillery Owner Left Stunned

Two thieves disguised as construction workers stole over 320,000 baht of steel fencing from a New Mexico distillery in broad daylight, completing the heist in under two hours using cutting tools and a flatbed truck.

7 May Khaosod

A distillery owner in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was shocked to discover that two thieves dressed as construction workers stole over 320,000 baht worth of steel fencing in broad daylight on April 30th from his new Hollow Spirits Distillery location. Frank Holloway, the distillery owner, initially suspected he was going blind after noticing nearly half of the rear fence had vanished, but security camera footage revealed the thieves had struck openly during the day, completing the theft in less than two hours. The perpetrators wore safety helmets and construction-style clothing, using cutting tools to sever the fence sections from the ground before methodically loading them onto a waiting flatbed truck with professional efficiency. Holloway believes the construction worker disguise prevented nearby residents from becoming suspicious despite many witnessing the operation. Authorities suspect the thieves plan to resell the steel, as such materials typically fetch around 80% of market value. The theft has created significant financial hardship for Holloway, who now faces repair and replacement costs exceeding 321,000 baht.

Roxie, a husky-border collie mix, has spent over 170 days waiting at a California animal shelter, sitting by the door each day in hopes of her owner's return. A volunteer's video of the hopeful dog has touched hearts online, revealing a cheerful and energetic dog who craves human companionship and is now seeking an active family to adopt her.

7 May Khaosod

A dog has been waiting for her owner at a shelter for over 170 days, sitting by the door every day in hopes of being reunited with her familiar face. Recently, Jackie Gonzalez, a volunteer at an animal shelter in California, posted a video of Roxie, a husky-border collie mix, staring at the door with hope that her owner will return home, which has garnered considerable sympathy from internet users.

According to reports, Roxie was brought to the shelter and has been living there for over 170 days. Throughout this time, whenever she hears sounds from the entrance, she immediately perks up and looks at everyone walking in, as if trying to find her familiar owner.

Jackie shared that Roxie sits by the door every day, as if she believes that if she behaves well and is patient enough, one day her owner will come back for her again.

The stress of living in the shelter has taken a toll on Roxie. The shelter environment makes it difficult for her to relax and live a normal dog life. While other dogs have gradually been adopted, Roxie remains at the shelter.

Jackie added that Roxie is actually a cheerful, energetic dog who loves interacting with people and longs for human connection and warmth, making her well-suited for an active family ready to spend time with her.

Currently, Roxie has been spayed and fully vaccinated, and is waiting for a new home where someone is ready to care for her throughout her life.

Democratic Party Teams With People's Party to File Constitutional Court Challenge Against 400-Billion-Baht Loan Decree, Submission on May 11-12

The People's Party and Democratic Party plan to challenge Thailand's 400-billion-baht loan decree at the Constitutional Court, arguing the government is disguising a blank check for energy restructuring within pandemic relief funding. The p

7 May Khaosod

At 2 PM on May 7, 2025, at Parliament, Nattapong Ruangpanya, list MP and leader of the People's Party, along with Sirikanya Tansakul, list MP and deputy party leader, and legal advisor Thira Sutheevarangkul, announced the party's position on the government's plan to issue a 400-billion-baht loan decree. Nattapong stated that the party's morning meeting found the government was attempting to disguise a blank check for 2 billion baht for energy transition restructuring by bundling it with pandemic relief funds—despite energy transition actually requiring years to implement. He questioned whether the 2 billion baht loan meets the constitutional requirement that borrowing must address economic conditions. The People's Party is ready to use its legislative authority to file the petition, which it will draft itself to avoid overextending the court's jurisdiction. While welcoming participation from the Democratic Party and other opposition parties, the party emphasized careful consideration. Nattapong acknowledged concerns about whether all relief recipients genuinely suffered hardship, as the government claims, questioning the government's earlier targeted relief messaging. The petition must be submitted by May 11-12 to comply with the constitutional requirement of filing before Parliament's May 14 approval. Deputy leader Sirikanya questioned the logic of distributing relief to 30 million people if everyone truly suffered equally, suggesting universal rather than random distribution would be appropriate.

Taiwan-Thailand Q1 Trade Hits Record High as Investment Expansion Accelerates

Taiwan-Thailand bilateral trade surged 47.8% year-over-year in Q1 2025 to reach record levels, driven by expanded recruitment, tech training programs, and manufacturing partnerships across Thailand's regions.

7 May Khaosod

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs revealed that Taiwan-Thailand bilateral trade in Q1 2025 increased significantly by 47.8% year-over-year, setting an all-time record. This demonstrates Taiwan's importance as an indispensable partner for Thailand in advancing industrial upgrading and developing advanced technology talent.

Taiwan's Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand has launched the Taiwan-Thailand Tech Talent Service Platform since late 2024, with concrete progress in Q1 2025 including:

1. Campus recruitment expansion: The office partnered with Taiwan businesses to conduct recruitment activities in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, and Chachoengsao, reaching approximately 3,000 students.

2. Regional technology transfer: Taiwan established specialized curriculum programs and the Taiwan International Personnel Cooperation and Exchange Center in Thailand's northern and northeastern regions, expanding professional development courses beyond Bangkok to provide Thai youth nationwide access to Taiwan's vocational training.

3. Industry linkage initiatives: The office facilitated connections between the PCB (printed circuit board) industry and Thai industrial parks to enhance employment matching and enable graduates to secure jobs immediately upon completion.

Economic collaboration: Taiwan ranks as Thailand's 4th trade partner and 6th foreign investment source. In 2024, Taiwan invested in 131 projects worth 27.35 billion baht, primarily in electronics, ICT, and PCB manufacturing.

Education: Over 2,000 Thai students studied in Taiwan in 2024, a 5% increase from 2023, reflecting growing appreciation for Taiwan's educational quality and internship opportunities.

Peter Lan, Director-General of Taiwan's Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, stated that Taiwan-Thailand cooperation has evolved from traditional manufacturing to AI and smart technology. Taiwan aims to develop Thailand's local talent through comprehensive services rather than focusing solely on trade and investment. Taiwan seeks to encourage more potential Thai youth to join "Team Taiwan" as part of this collaborative effort.
