Thailand's artistic swimming team preparing for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan has returned home after an intensive month-long training camp in Europe, bringing back championship titles. The 13-athlete, four-coach delegation trained in Italy and competed across Hungary and Switzerland from April 7 onwards, aiming to enhance their technical skills, physical conditioning, and modernize their routines to meet international standards.

During their European competition tour across three countries, the Thai team delivered exceptional results, winning championships in Brescia, Italy; Hungary's national championship; and Switzerland's youth championship. Coach Thanawit Tossakul explained that sending this primarily young team abroad was to gain international competition experience and identify their strengths and weaknesses. The association will next assess the team's performance at the Asian Age Group Championships 2026, hosted by Thailand from July 17-25, before setting Asian Games targets with the goal of surpassing their previous performance.

Thailand's European results include: Six gold medals and one silver at Italy's Brixia Open in Brescia (from duet and team routines); two gold and one silver at Hungary's 34th National Open Championship in Budapest; and two gold, one silver, and one bronze at Switzerland's 18th Youth Competition in Oberkirch (from duet, team, and acrobatic routines).

Furious Husband Accuses Wife of Stealing Condoms for Another Man, She Stabs Him Severely with Kitchen Knife

A woman in Udon Thani stabbed her boyfriend in the chest with a kitchen knife during a heated argument over condoms he had purchased, severely wounding him in what she claimed was an unintended deep wound.

12 May Khaosod

May 12 — Deputy Superintendent Thawat Kaew Pattana of Na Khao Sub-police Station received a report of a couple stabbing each other with severe injuries at a house in Na Khao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province. He rushed to the scene with rescue personnel from Na Khao Subdistrict Municipality and Udon Thani Central Hospital.

At the scene, 39-year-old Tawee Sak was found with a stab wound to the right upper chest near the nipple. First aid was provided before he was rushed to the hospital.

The suspect, 28-year-old Rajana, the injured man's girlfriend, hid inside the house after the incident. Police took her into custody along with a pointed kitchen knife approximately one foot long, still stained with blood.

Rajana revealed that she had been dating Tawee Sak for over a year. The argument started the previous night when she took condoms her boyfriend had purchased from his wardrobe and hid them under a pillow. Her boyfriend became upset, suspecting she intended to use them with another man. They argued all night without sleeping.

Before the incident, Rajana asked her boyfriend for money to buy methamphetamine as she had none. He instead bought her white liquor for 20 baht and left for a merit-making ceremony. When he refused to unlock the house door because he was still angry about the condom incident, Rajana screamed at him in rage, grabbed a knife, and stabbed him once in the chest, causing him to collapse. She claimed she didn't intend to stab deeply because she still loved him deeply.

Police have charged Rajana with illegal possession of Category 1 drugs (methamphetamine) and assault causing harm to another person, both physical and psychological. The case will proceed according to law.

Recently appointed as first in line to succession because her father King Arthur de Lena (Peter Thaunstrup) plans to abdicate soon, her arrival prompts police officer Vayu Watingun, or "Lom" (Freen Sarocha), to be assigned by his father—Police Chief General Watit Watingun (Wanchana Sawatdi)—to protect the princess. Lom falls instantly in love with Princess Blue, but knows their romance is impossible. However, fate brings them closer when Lom accidentally saves her from assassination. The plan fails when Lom rescues the injured princess and hides her at his safe house, pledging his full protection. When Lom realizes there are conspirators within the police force, he and the princess escape to a farm in Chiang Rai belonging to his cousin Din (Apple Laphisara) and Rose (Mim Panditta), with help from journalist Fah (Thantipha Taveesinthun) to uncover the truth about Madeline. Civil Society Submits Letter Opposing Phu Ngoy Dam Construction Across Mekong River, Fears Flooding in Ubon Ratchathani

Civil society groups in Ubon Ratchathani formally opposed the Phu Ngoy Dam project in Laos, citing concerns that the hydroelectric facility would reverse water flow and cause flooding in Thailand during monsoon season.

12 May Khaosod

On May 12, 2025, civil society representatives in Ubon Ratchathani held a public forum at Ubon Ratchathani University to question the progress of the Phu Ngoy Dam construction on the Mekong River in Laos. The group expressed concerns that water held back by the dam would reverse flow downstream and cause flooding in Ubon Ratchathani during the flood season, prompting them to formally submit a letter of opposition to provincial authorities.

Chomla Techaseyan, Deputy Secretary-General of the NWRO, explained that the Phu Ngoy hydroelectric dam is a Laotian project seeking to enter consultations under the four-nation Mekong River cooperation framework. Under the agreement, any country developing a Mekong River project must submit impact assessments for member consideration. He stated the project has not yet entered the multi-country review process and remains in the preliminary data submission stage.

Sudsai Srangsoek, a leading civil society activist from the Ubon Flood Watch Network, raised concerns about significant discrepancies in impact assessments. While the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) suggests water levels would rise four meters, the NWRO claims only a four-centimeter increase. She argued that the dam would block fish migration and prevent water from the Mun River from flowing into the Mekong, causing recurring floods. The EIA report also warns of impacts on Khong Kaen Lake fish stocks and potential contamination from sediment and toxins flowing from northern Thailand.

The Phu Ngoy Dam is a run-of-river hydroelectric project on the Mekong River in Laos with a full storage level of 98 meters above mean sea level, creating a water retention area stretching approximately 80 kilometers from kilometer 851 to 931 of the Mekong River. The EIA clearly states that dam operations would cause flooding along the Mekong, tributary streams, and sections of the Mun River in Thailand near Kaeng Tana, constituting a significant transboundary impact.

Neighbor Arrested for Shooting Youth Recording Product Review Video; Prior Dispute Over Live Stream Audio Reported

A 44-year-old man was arrested in Chiang Rai after shooting a 24-year-old neighbor recording a product review video, with police alleging a prior dispute over noise from the livestream activity.

12 May Khaosod

On May 12, 2025, special operations police from Chiang Rai Provincial Police conducted a manhunt for Jeeraphong, nicknamed "Pongsa," age 44, the suspect accused of shooting Sivakorn, nicknamed "Pon," age 24, with a firearm. The victim was injured in the right arm inside a residential building in Baan Thoung Charoen Village, Tambon Plong, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province. The incident occurred on the evening of May 11.

Police located the suspect hiding in a rubber plantation approximately 10 kilometers from the village and arrested him, later conducting a search of his residence for evidence. Phuppisut, age 22, a friend of the victim who witnessed the shooting, revealed that around 5:11 p.m., he and Sivakorn were filming a product review video for online distribution when suddenly a gunshot rang out. He saw Sivakorn collapse with severe bleeding from his arm and immediately rushed him to Thoeng Hospital by motorcycle. He stated that the suspect had previously expressed dissatisfaction about noise from their activities, but they had always tried to avoid confrontation.

Thanawat Termsuk, age 45, the victim's uncle, said he heard a gunshot while sitting in the kitchen. Running outside, he found his nephew lying on the ground near a vehicle. He noted that residents were well aware of the suspect's troublesome behavior, characterized by frequent outbursts, quarreling with neighbors, and sometimes throwing branches and zinc sheets at others' houses.

The suspect, Jeeraphong, vehemently denied the accusations, claiming he was tapping rubber on a hillside at the time and heard nothing. He insisted he had no conflicts with neighbors. However, during a search of the property, police discovered parts of a homemade long-barreled gas gun and a shoulder strap hidden behind a chicken coop near the suspect's house, appearing to have been recently concealed.

Nuan Obom, headman of Thoung Charoen Village, revealed that Jeeraphong had been removed from village membership over eight years ago due to drug-related behavior. He had moved away to work in another province and recently returned about six to seven months ago. Since his return, he has caused continuous trouble for villagers, challenging authorities, firing shots into the air, and cursing neighbors. Residents regard him as a dangerous individual in the community.

Sivakorn, still hospitalized, said via video call that initially after being shot he felt no pain but experienced intense heat in his chest area before seeing heavy bleeding. He confirmed that the suspect had previously shouted insults across the fence and thrown rocks at his house multiple times. He urged authorities to prosecute the case fully, as residents would feel unsafe if the suspect continued living in the area.

Police have preliminarily prepared charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm, with the suspect to be prosecuted according to law.

Warning: Taking 'V-Sign' Photos Could Open Door to Criminals Stealing Your Personal Data

Security experts warn that peace sign selfies can expose fingerprints to AI-enhanced theft, potentially compromising biometric security systems, though experts say the actual risk remains difficult to execute in practice.

12 May Khaosod

The ubiquitous 'V-sign' or 'victory pose' has been a global photography staple for decades, but security experts are raising alarm bells in an age of high-resolution cameras and artificial intelligence. When you make a peace sign in a selfie, your fingertips can reveal enough detail for biometric analysis—particularly fingerprints—which are crucial for modern security authentication systems.

Chinese security expert Li Chang demonstrated on a reality TV show how clearly fingerprint details can be captured in properly angled photos. His analysis found that photos taken within 1.5 meters with fingers pointed directly at the camera have a high likelihood of capturing complete fingerprint data, while photos taken from up to 3 meters away can still recover partial information.

AI technology makes this threat more serious by being able to enhance low-resolution images and sharpen previously invisible details like fingerprints. Li Chang demonstrated how image processing software combined with AI can transform blurry photos into ones with startlingly clear fingerprint details.

Jing Jiuwa, a cryptography professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, confirmed that technically, high-resolution photos combined with the V-sign pose can enable hand and fingerprint analysis in certain cases.

However, other security experts clarified that stealing fingerprints from photos to breach biometric security systems 'is not yet easy' since it requires multiple factors to align—proper lighting, camera angle, image clarity, and often multiple photos to obtain accurate data.

While not an imminent threat, experts recommend users exercise caution, especially selfie enthusiasts. If possible, avoid directly exposing your fingertips, or edit photos by blurring your fingertips before posting on social media to reduce long-term personal data and security risks.

Grilled Squid Vendor Perseveres as Only Remaining Stall at Festival—Sells Out Before 8 PM as Customers Rush to Verify

A grilled squid vendor became the sole remaining stall at a festival after all other merchants abruptly left, drawing curious crowds who came to verify his claim and buying him out entirely before 8 PM.

12 May Khaosod

On May 12, 2025, TikTok user @user785887448, a grilled squid vendor, posted about an extraordinary business experience at a festival. During what should have been a full-scale event with two days remaining, all other vendors suddenly packed up and left, leaving only his stall operating. "The entire festival is down to just one shop selling food—mine," he explained in his video, noting that neighboring vendors were systematically shutting down. Despite years of selling at markets, he had never encountered such a situation. Determined to recoup his upfront costs and honor his inventory order, he decided to stay and sell alone.

The post went viral, with many skeptical internet users doubting that an entire festival could be reduced to a single vendor. Curious crowds came to see for themselves, and found his claim to be true. The unexpected foot traffic from these verification-seeking customers turned out to be remarkably beneficial—his grilled squid sold completely out before 8 PM that same day.

Pickup Truck Skids in Rain, Hits Power Pole; Fuel Tanker and Tour Bus Swerve Off Road—35 Injured

A pickup truck skidded in heavy rain and hit a power pole on Highway 304 in Nakhon Ratchasima, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving a fuel tanker and tour bus that left 35 people injured on May 12.

12 May Khaosod

A pickup truck skidded in heavy rain and crashed into a power pole on Highway 304 (Nakhon Ratchasima-Kabinburi route) at kilometer 245+400 on May 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The impact caused a fuel tanker following behind to brake suddenly, which in turn caused an Ubon Ratchathani-Pattaya air-conditioned tour bus traveling behind it to rear-end the tanker and careen off the roadside, colliding with a roadside shop.

Rescue volunteers from Nakhon Ratchasima's Unit 31 and police worked together to assist the injured. They evacuated ambulatory passengers first using the emergency rear door, then transported the severely injured from inside the bus and pickup truck—totaling 35 injured persons—to Wang Nam Khiao and Pakthongchai hospitals. Five patients were admitted for observation.

One driver, identified as Sunthon, was trapped under the collapsed roof of the tour bus and required over 40 minutes of cutting and prying with mechanical tools to be freed.

Investigators determined that the initial cause was the slippery road surface from rain, which caused the pickup truck to lose control and hit the power pole and traffic sign. The sudden braking of the fuel tanker triggered a chain reaction collision. Authorities are continuing their investigation by interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.

Knox Jolie-Pitt wins fans with love for Muay Thai

Knox Jolie-Pitt, son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has won over Thai fans with his serious dedication to Muay Thai training in Los Angeles and a recent competition appearance that earned him a medal.

12 May Khaosod

Knox Jolie-Pitt, the 17-year-old son of Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, is gaining attention among Thai fans for his growing passion for Muay Thai after recently being spotted training seriously at a gym in Los Angeles.

Photos circulating online showed Knox training in Muay Thai shorts featuring the word "Rajadamnern" in Thai script, referencing Rajadamnern Stadium, one of the most historic and respected venues in the sport. Thai social media users quickly praised the teenager's apparent dedication to Thailand's national martial art.

According to entertainment reports and paparazzi photos from the past year, Knox has been training consistently in Muay Thai and appears to take the sport seriously. Images from recent sessions showed him stretching, lifting weights, sparring with coaches and training partners, and even continuing after suffering a nosebleed during practice.

His interest in the sport became widely noticed in July 2025 when he celebrated his 17th birthday by competing in an IKF Point Muay Thai Technical competition in Los Angeles. Videos from the event showed Knox exchanging punches and kicks with an opponent before eventually winning a medal. His mother Angelina Jolie and twin sister Vivienne were reportedly present to support him from the crowd.

Knox was also photographed wearing Muay Thai gear branded by Thai companies, including Tuff shorts commonly associated with the sport's international training community.

In 2025, Knox reportedly travelled to Thailand, where he attended fights at Rajadamnern Stadium and trained at a Muay Thai camp. His visit drew additional interest among Thai fans, many of whom welcomed the growing international appreciation for the sport.

Often referred to as "the art of eight limbs," Muay Thai is one of Thailand's most important cultural exports and a globally recognised combat sport. Unlike Western boxing, Muay Thai incorporates punches, elbows, knees and kicks, with fighters using nearly every part of the body both offensively and defensively.

The sport originated centuries ago as a battlefield fighting technique before evolving into a professional combat sport deeply tied to Thai culture and identity. Today, Muay Thai is practised worldwide, attracting professional fighters, fitness enthusiasts and celebrities alike.

Rajadamnern Stadium, founded in 1945, is widely regarded as one of the birthplaces of modern professional Muay Thai and remains among the sport's most prestigious arenas alongside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
