Taxi Driver Dies After Crashing Into Tree On Bangkok Motorway
A 49-year-old taxi driver died early July 8 after losing control on a Bangkok motorway curve and crashing into a tree near Chatuchote intersection; excessive speed is suspected.
At 1:00 a.m. on July 8, police from Khannayao Station responded to a report of a taxi that had crashed into a tree on the Kanchanaphisek Ring Road motorway outbound lane near Soi Nong Rahaeng 7 in Samwa Subdistrict, Khlong Samwa District, Bangkok. Officers and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation arrived at the scene, which was on a two-lane curved section of road heading toward the Chatuchote intersection. They found a green and yellow taxi with a severely damaged front end lodged in grass near a large tree, showing signs of a violent impact. The driver, 49-year-old Direrk, was found dead, trapped inside the vehicle. Using a crane, officers extracted the wreckage and recovered the body. The victim was wearing a light blue short-sleeved shirt and shorts and had severe facial lacerations and a deformed right leg fracture. Preliminary investigation revealed no other vehicle was involved. Police believe the taxi was traveling at excessive speed when it approached the curve, causing the driver to lose control and strike the roadside tree.
