Gold Research Center Eyes Fed Policy, Middle East Tensions

Most gold market experts predict price increases in the coming week, with nearly 60% of investors surveyed also expecting gains, as weakening U.S. employment data and Middle East tensions support gold as a safe-haven asset.

Gold Research Center Eyes Fed Policy, Middle East Tensions

The Gold Research Center unveiled results from the GRC Gold Survey on domestic gold price trends for July 6-10, 2025, revealing that most gold market experts maintain a positive outlook. Of the 13 experts surveyed, 46 percent (6 experts) predicted gold prices would rise, while 23 percent (3 experts) expected declines, and 31 percent (4 experts) forecast prices would move similarly to the previous week.

Among 329 gold investors surveyed, 59 percent (195 investors) anticipated price increases, 24 percent (80 investors) expected decreases, and 17 percent (54 investors) predicted stable prices.

Last week, 96.5% purity gold bars traded between 62,800-65,650 baht per baht-weight, closing at 65,550 baht—a 900-baht jump from the previous week's close of 64,650 baht, according to the Goldsmith Association.

Investors should monitor key factors affecting next week's gold prices, including the Federal Reserve's monetary policy direction. Market expectations for interest rate hikes have declined following weaker-than-expected U.S. employment data, causing U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar to weaken—conditions that support gold as a safe-haven asset.

Markets are also tracking U.S.-Iran tensions, particularly peace negotiations and shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz, which could drive safe-asset demand and support gold prices in the near term.

Investors are awaiting critical U.S. economic data, including the FOMC meeting minutes from June 16-17, 2025, the services PMI, and weekly jobless claims—all crucial indicators for assessing the Fed's policy direction and future gold price trends.

Thai Water Lilies Bloom Into Major Export Market

Thai Water Lilies Bloom Into Major Export Market

Thailand's Commerce Ministry is highlighting a growing Gen Z trend of wearing traditional Thai clothing while posing with water lilies on social media, which is energizing the Thai lotus flower market. The Ministry of Commerce has identified lotus flowers as a promising new cash crop and is urging exporters to capture their share of the global market worth 220 billion baht.

Nanthapong Jiralertpong, director of the Office of Trade Policy and Strategy under the Commerce Ministry, revealed that the global water lily product market shows strong growth potential and is becoming a new wave in Thailand's creative economy. The market is projected to grow from 3.8 billion USD in 2025 to 6.9 billion USD, or 2.27 trillion baht, by 2034, representing average annual growth of 6.9 percent.

The sustained expansion is driven by the current Gen Z trend of wearing traditional Thai dress while photographing themselves with water lilies in ThaiAesthetic style, which has significantly boosted interest in Thai lotus flowers. This creates opportunities to promote culturally distinctive Thai water lilies for export and expand into high-value products spanning lifestyle, food, and sustainable fashion sectors.

"Water lilies are not just a fleeting social media trend," Nanthapong stated. "They are becoming a crucial driver that will elevate Thailand's flower industry, transforming the lotus from a ceremonial flower into a value-added lifestyle product while connecting agriculture, tourism, and creative industries."

Thailand already possesses strong advantages in the cut flower industry, particularly in orchids, where it ranks as the world's second-largest exporter. This foundation allows Thailand to develop Thai water lilies further through variety development, improved logistics systems, brand creation through tourism, and festivals to increase product value and expand global market opportunities while sustainably boosting farmer incomes.

Currently, Thai water lilies occupy 14,036 rai of harvested area with production of 12,051 tons, concentrated in Suphan Buri, Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, and Pathum Thani provinces. In 2025, Thailand exported 20,508 tons of cut flowers valued at 78.4 million USD, or 2.568 billion baht, representing 10 percent growth from the previous year.

Orchids remain Thailand's leading cut flower export at 18,833 tons, valued at 70.5 million USD or 2.308 billion baht, showing 13.4 percent growth year-on-year. Globally, the top five cut flower exporters are the Netherlands (46.4 percent of world market share), Colombia (20.9 percent), Ecuador (9.0 percent), Kenya (6.4 percent), and Ethiopia (2.6 percent), while Thailand ranks 13th with 0.6 percent. Thailand remains the world's second-largest orchid exporter.

Police are intensifying their search for a 40-year-old man accused of abducting a 34-year-old woman from Tha Maka district in Kanchanaburi and taking her across five provinces while assaulting her throughout the journey. A Shell gas station attendant in Bang Rin came to the victim's aid after she managed to escape. The victim was allegedly forced at gunpoint and transported southward to Phuket, with the suspect forcing her to stay at hotels where he assaulted her before continuing. Upon reaching Ranong province, the suspect burned the woman's important documents before handing her the car keys, allowing her to escape and seek help from the Shell station. Staff helped her contact relatives and alert police.

The alarming incident was reported to investigators at Ranong City Police Station early in the morning of July 4, 2569, when the 34-year-old victim filed a complaint. She had been threatened on July 3 when the ex-boyfriend, identified as Nattapong, 40, called and threatened to detonate explosives at her workplace clinic in Tha Maka district unless she paid 5,000 baht.

When she met him near Tha Maka School around 10:00 AM, he brandished a black handgun, forced her car door open, and robbed her of 5,000 baht. He then ordered her to drive south toward Phuket province while threatening her with a sharp knife. Along the way, he forced her to stay at a hotel in Damnoen Saduak district in Ratchaburi, where he beat and assaulted her, leaving her with bruises and a swollen mouth. She had to wear a face mask to conceal the injuries during travel.

Around 00:20 on July 4, near Wat Wari Barbot temple in Mueang Ranong district, the suspect stopped the car at a roadside rest area and made the victim, nicknamed Poo Pae, sit outside while he burned her documents to prevent her escape. He then claimed he was too tired to drive and handed her the car keys. Seizing the opportunity, she drove away to the Shell gas station in Bang Rin, about 10 kilometers away, and asked staff for help contacting relatives and police.

At 01:16 on July 4, officers from Bang Rin Police Box and Mueang Ranong Police Station arrived. The victim explained what happened, and police took her to Ranong Hospital for examination before filing a formal complaint. Nattapong faces multiple charges including robbery with a weapon, unlawful detention, assault with a weapon, and physical injury. The victim lost 5,000 baht in cash and several important documents. Deputy Commander Thawatchai Charoen of Mueang Ranong Police ordered investigators and patrol officers to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice while providing security for the victim until her relatives return her home.

Richarlison, Tottenham's Brazilian striker, posted words of encouragement to his national teammates following Brazil's elimination from the World Cup, saying he understands their pain because he experienced similar heartbreak four years ago.

Richarlison was not included in Brazil's squad for the 2026 World Cup, though he had previously played in the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Following Brazil's 1-2 loss to Norway in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, the striker posted a message of support to his fellow national team players, writing: "Four years ago in Qatar, I felt exactly what you're feeling right now. I know everyone worked hard, everyone dreamed and sacrificed so much to pursue their World Cup dreams. That's why even though I'm not there this time, I'm hurting with you, I'm hurting and feeling sad too. Be strong no matter what anyone says. It will hurt now, but one day it will slowly fade, happiness will return. We will always be together, in good times and bad."

Ancelotti Vows to Stay Despite Brazil's World Cup Exit

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti will remain in his position despite the team's round-of-16 elimination at the 2026 World Cup following a 2-1 loss to Norway on July 5.

3h ago Khaosod

Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil's head coach, has confirmed he will not resign despite the Seleção being eliminated in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The five-time world champions ended their World Cup 2026 campaign in the round of 16 after losing 1-2 to Norway on July 5.

After the match, Ancelotti confirmed he will continue as Brazil's head coach. "We must keep working hard, develop ourselves, and find new ideas. I believe this is not the end, but the beginning of a new cycle," he said.

The 67-year-old coach also explained why Vinícius Júnior did not take the penalty before Bruno Guimarães missed it. "Based on the data, Neymar was the most suitable to take the penalty, followed by Rafinha, and finally Bruno. We chose him because we felt he was the most suitable player on the field," Ancelotti explained.

"In the early stages, I thought we were a team that controlled the game well. We created chances. It was difficult to press too aggressively because Norway was set tight. Pressing too much would have been risky," he added.

"I think we did well, but that's football. That's sport. Sometimes you have to taste defeat."

Transport Ministry Seeks 24 Billion Baht for Public Bus EV Conversion

Transport Ministry Seeks 24 Billion Baht for Public Bus EV Conversion
3h ago Khaosod

The Transport Ministry is preparing to propose allocating 24 billion baht from a 400-billion-baht emergency loan decree to convert public buses to electric vehicles. Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkhaskulgiatkit revealed that next week the ministry will consult with the Finance Ministry, Customs Department, and relevant agencies on the energy transition project, particularly targeting public transportation, with 24 billion baht from the royal decree loan fund.

The plan aims to establish guidelines for seven target vehicle categories: app-based taxis and ride-hailing vehicles, motorcycle taxis, tuk-tuks, scheduled buses, non-scheduled buses, school transportation vehicles, and cargo trucks—targeting a total of 80,000 vehicles. The proposal will be submitted to the loan spending screening committee chaired by the Finance Ministry Secretary-General by mid-July, before advancing to the Cabinet.

"Our energy transition program focuses on public transportation vehicles, not commercial operators, because we don't want fuel price impacts to affect the public's cost of living," Siripong stated.

Regarding concerns about a Constitutional Court ruling on the 400-billion-baht loan decree scheduled for July 9, he expressed confidence the ruling would be favorable, as the government believes the project is urgently necessary given ongoing Middle East tensions and potential future crises.

Additionally, the ministry is preparing a 2-3 billion baht fuel subsidy measure for public and hired transport operators to stabilize fares without burdening citizens—part of phase two relief measures. However, implementation depends on oil price fluctuations, as both fuel and fares remain volatile, though the government assured it would not hastily implement such measures.

Nara United Chair to Clarify Club Licensing Rejection

Nara United chairman Affan Haji Yusso will hold a press conference July 9 to explain why the club failed to meet licensing requirements for Thai League 2, potentially losing its promotion spot from League 3.

Nara United Chair to Clarify Club Licensing Rejection
3h ago Khaosod

Affan Haji Yusso, chairman of Nara United, announced he will hold a press conference on July 9 to clarify the club's failure to pass club licensing requirements for Thai League 2, following the Football Association's official announcement that day.

Nara United, which recently secured promotion from Thai League 3, faces the prospect of being unable to compete in Thai League 2 because its club licensing application appears likely to be rejected. Should this occur, the promotion slot would go to fourth-place Mueang Loei United. If Mueang Loei also cannot secure licensing, the Thai League 2 spot would pass to Nakhon Sri United, the previous season's runner-up.

The club explained that while it submitted club licensing documentation within the required timeframe, certain document sections were incomplete according to the criteria, leading to the current issue.

In his latest statement, Affan announced a press conference following the Football Association's official announcement on July 9. His post stated: "Please wait until July 9. After the association makes its official announcement, I will personally explain all the facts about what happened in this process from start to finish. I will bring those responsible for document preparation to provide clarification as well, explaining directly why this situation occurred and answering all questions from fans and other parties.

I want to confirm at this stage that based on the information I currently have, there is no evidence that anyone is behind this or intended to harm the club. Whatever the actual facts are, I will explain everything and transparently disclose all information and answer every question at the press conference."
