A 31-year-old American man drowned in a residential lake in Samut Prakan after displaying erratic behavior and vandalizing a luxury home, with investigators finding syringes and unknown pills at the scene.

On July 7, police responded to an incident at a luxury residential community in Bang Chlong subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. A 31-year-old American man was exhibiting signs of severe agitation and attempted to enter a taxi with 1,000 baht, but the driver refused due to his erratic behavior. The man then knocked on residents' car windows before becoming increasingly agitated, rolling on the ground and making religious gestures. When police arrived, he fled into the community and jumped into the residential lake. Rescue teams found his body 30 minutes later in the 10-meter-deep lake.

According to his 22-year-old girlfriend, the couple had been together for three years but recently reconciled after a separation just three months prior. She reported he had shown no previous signs of behavioral issues and had never exhibited such conduct before today. She was unaware of any drug use, though investigators found two unused syringes on the car's front seat and white pills of unknown origin in his waistband.

The homeowner, who was renting the property for 35,000 baht monthly, discovered the residence had been vandalized with spray paint throughout the entire house—walls, floors, furniture, and decorations—causing extensive damage. The 22-million-baht lakefront property, which the owner deeply cherished, was devastated after only three months of tenancy. Bang Phli police are conducting a full investigation, including autopsy and toxicology tests, and will coordinate with the U.S. Embassy in Thailand regarding the incident.

Thailand Cracks Down on Unlicensed Cannabis Shops
5h ago Khaosod

On July 7, Health Minister Patthana Promptpadet confirmed that the Palang Pracharath party's cannabis policy focuses exclusively on medical use. A draft bill controlling cannabis and hemp cultivation is under public consultation but missed consideration in the current parliamentary session. The new law will impose strict penalties for violations and mark the first time cannabis cultivation will be legally regulated, with previous laws only controlling sales, distribution, and extraction.

Promptpadet noted that while Thailand no longer classifies cannabis as a narcotic, many destination countries still do, so exporters must check receiving countries' laws. Officials are coordinating with customs and airport authorities to prevent smuggling, having switched to electronic licenses to reduce fraud.

Regarding registered retailers, Promptpadet reported that of 18,000 shops registered in 2568, approximately 6,000 licenses expired by end-2568, with about 1,500 renewals. Licenses are granted for three-year periods, with roughly 6,000 expiring annually in 2569 and 2570. The Health Ministry is deploying thousands of additional inspectors from police and local authorities.

Promptpadet emphasized that registered shops must upgrade to medical facilities with resident physicians to ensure cannabis is dispensed only to eligible patients. Unauthorized and recreational shops face immediate arrest. The ministry has created a GPS-mapped database of all legitimate registered shops with license expiration dates for enforcement purposes.

Thailand's Department of Climate Change and Environment, working with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, will serve as the lead implementing agency, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thailand's Ministry of the Environment partners with New Zealand's Ministry for the Environment.

Under the agreement, Thailand will gain access to advanced technology development and innovation for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate impacts. Both governments plan to formally sign the memorandum in August 2025 to advance their bilateral climate change cooperation.

A Nonthaburi court has acquitted two Chinese men accused of laundering over 5 billion baht through luxury hotel purchases in Bangkok, finding insufficient evidence to support the prosecution's case.

A Nonthaburi provincial court has acquitted Mr. Zhao Chuanbo (41) and Mr. Huang Jianping (39) of all charges in a high-profile cross-border case involving the alleged embezzlement and money laundering of over 5 billion baht through luxury hotel purchases in Bangkok's Silom district.

The case began on April 3, 2025, when a former police officer filed a complaint on behalf of Yin Qianying ("Alu"), a Chinese-Cambodian national who was detained at Bangkok's special prison awaiting extradition to China. The officer accused Zhao Chuanbo, who was listed in Interpol's database, of conspiring to embezzle all of Alu's assets, including money allegedly brought from China that was laundered through the acquisition of luxury hotels and other properties valued at approximately 5 billion baht.

Police from multiple agencies coordinated to arrest both men at Suvarnabhumi Airport on May 20, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Authorities opposed bail due to the high value of damages and the international nature of the case.

While the case initially appeared to involve embezzlement and Chinese money laundering schemes, the defendants were represented by attorney Anant Pilandhanaditok ("Attorney Uan"), head of the legal team at Kralow News. After examining evidence presented in court, the Nonthaburi provincial court determined that the prosecution could not prove its case against either defendant. The court issued a full acquittal, clearing both Mr. Zhao Chuanbo and Mr. Huang Jianping of all allegations and closing the high-profile inheritance and hotel dispute case.

A 73-year-old landlord shot and critically injured two sisters over unpaid rent outside a grocery shop in Ratchaburi on July 7, then fled on a motorcycle; police are searching for him.

Man Shoots Sisters Over Unpaid Rent in Ratchaburi
5h ago Khaosod

At 2:45 p.m. on July 7, 2025, Ratchaburi City Police received a report of two women shot and critically injured outside a grocery shop on Huay-Thung Luang intersection, Muang district. Officers found blood at the scene and recovered two 9mm shell casings as evidence. The victims—a 52-year-old woman and her 48-year-old sister—were rushed to Ratchaburi Hospital.

The husband of one victim explained that his wife sells flower garlands while her sister operates a grocery shop, each renting separate rooms. He heard a loud bang, then gunshots, and found both women injured outside the shop. The shooter fled by motorcycle.

The village headman identified the gunman as his 73-year-old father, who fled after the shooting. Preliminary investigation suggests the father came to collect unpaid rent from the two tenants. He had apparently visited multiple times demanding payment, and when unsuccessful this time, lost his temper and shot both sisters. Police are pursuing the suspect and asking the village headman to encourage his father to turn himself in. Contact with the suspect has not yet been established.

Ex-Candidate Denies Planning Mass Shooting That Kills Two

A 42-year-old former political candidate shot and killed two people and injured two others, including his wife, in Chiang Rai Province on July 6th, denying he planned the attack.

Ex-Candidate Denies Planning Mass Shooting That Kills Two
5h ago Khaosod

A 42-year-old former political candidate has denied premeditation in a shooting that killed two people and seriously injured two others in Wiangkaen District, Chiang Rai Province. The suspect, identified as Krichakorn, opened fire on his wife's family in Muang Yai Subdistrict on July 6th. Two victims—Supannee, 55, the wife's sister, and Rueangsakdi, 56, a relative—died from gunshot wounds. Two others, including the suspect's wife Sunida, 52, and stepson Siraksa, 29, a special-needs child, sustained serious injuries before police apprehended the suspect in Wiangchiang Rung District.

On July 7th, authorities reported the suspect denies planning the attack, so he was not brought for questioning. Only forensic officers and Wiangkaen Police conducted additional evidence collection while neighbors and relatives helped clean the house to prepare for funeral arrangements.

The 72-year-old stepfather of Supannee and Sunida recounted that Krichakorn had been drinking heavily and attempted to call his wife. When Sunida was bathing, he hit her head with his phone until it shattered. After taking her to the hospital, she declined to file a complaint, thinking nothing serious would happen. Upon returning home, Krichakorn returned with a firearm and opened fire. Rueangsakdi attempted to calm him down, but Krichakorn fired at him immediately. Supannee died trying to protect her sister, struck by a stray bullet.

A neighbor girl reported that Sunida initially came asking for help after being assaulted, then they went to the hospital. Upon returning, she saw adults standing and talking but did not enter the room where the shooting occurred, fearing she might have become another victim.

Nil, 76, the mother of Rueangsakdi, tearfully revealed she knew nothing of family conflicts. During the shooting, she was sleeping and heard three gunshots, mistaking them for her son hitting a table. Police later informed her that her son had been killed. He had simply brought bamboo shoots to give to family members for cooking when he happened to walk in at the moment Krichakorn was shooting inside the house and was struck by a stray bullet.

Nil concluded by saying she had one question: "Why did he kill my son? What did my son do?" She forgave the perpetrator but left the matter of punishment to police.

Meanwhile, the suspect's employer arrived for questioning at Wiangkaen Police Station at 4 p.m. Further investigation revealed the perpetrator is a former ranger who exercised his rights to purchase and use the firearm. He was also a former parliamentary candidate under the Prachaniyom Party.

Royal Cremation Ceremony For Late Queen Set For Mid-December

Thailand's government is constructing an elaborate three-tiered crematorium at Sanam Luang for the royal cremation ceremony of Queen Sirikit scheduled for mid-December, with construction expected to finish in October.

6h ago Khaosod

On July 7, 2025, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister visited the Royal Cremation Complex at Sanam Luang to inspect progress on construction of the royal crematorium, supporting buildings, restoration of royal carriages, and preparations for the royal cremation ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. The inspection was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Supachai Sutharmpun, Culture Minister Sabiday Thaisurasth, and senior officials from the Fine Arts Department.

The Prime Minister toured the construction site and reviewed architectural and artistic design work, the crafting of a sandalwood casket, and decoration work. The Fine Arts Department reported that the crematorium design, inspired by royal guidance, features a three-tiered crown-shaped structure adorned in blue, pink, and white, colors associated with the Queen Mother's birthday. The design incorporates graceful patterns reflecting the Queen Mother's dignity and includes decorative elements from her handicraft foundation.

The Prime Minister confirmed that construction will be completed in October 2025, with work already 90 percent finished. The department is also installing three elevators for royal processions, to be completed by August. Additionally, preliminary design work is underway for a crematorium dedicated to Princess Galyani Vadhana, ensuring it follows traditional Thai architectural principles and honors her distinguished legacy.
