The Thai Meteorological Department has named 47 provinces in a weather alert for severe downpours affecting 70 percent of those areas. Bangkok and its surrounding provinces face the same risks of dangerous heavy to very heavy rainfall and flooding. As of July 1, 2025, the meteorological department forecasts heavy rain in scattered areas and very heavy rainfall in parts of the eastern and western gulf regions during the next 24 hours. This is due to strong southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a monsoon trough passing over northern Thailand and upper Laos entering a low-pressure system in upper Vietnam.
Public warnings emphasize the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that could trigger sudden flash floods and mudslides, particularly in foothill areas near water channels and low-lying zones. The upper Andaman Sea faces moderate to strong winds with waves 2-3 meters high, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand have waves around 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen are urged to exercise caution and avoid navigating through thunderstorm zones, while small boats in the upper Andaman are advised not to venture out.
