Royal Initiative Advances Medical Research For National Security

Thailand's Chulabhorn Research Institute has developed a biosimilar breast cancer drug that received FDA approval in 2025, advancing the nation's capabilities in biopharmaceutical research and public health innovation.

12h ago Khaosod

The Chulabhorn Research Institute, chaired by Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, remains committed to advancing Thailand's medical science and public health. Recognizing that national development requires knowledge-based innovation and skilled personnel, the Institute has pursued comprehensive research since 1987 to improve public health and strengthen the nation's foundation.

Research efforts span natural products and Thai medicinal herbs, organic chemical synthesis, and biopharmaceutical development. Monoclonal antibodies represent a major focus, offering new hope for treating serious conditions including cancer, autoimmune diseases, and infections—both current and emerging threats.

The Institute has established a complete biopharmaceutical development ecosystem encompassing research laboratories, production facilities, an internationally-standard animal testing center, graduate education programs, clinical research through Chulabhorn Hospital, and international research partnerships. This led to the creation of the Center for Biologics Research and Development (CBRD), which develops and manufactures biologics using modern technology, including cell-level development, scalable production processes, GMP-standard quality control, and preclinical and clinical research.

A major achievement was developing the biosimilar trastuzumab (trastuzumab), used for targeted treatment of breast cancer and other malignancies. This drug received FDA approval under the royal name "HERDARA" in 2025. The Institute also prioritizes Thailand's natural resources, conducting herbal medicine research using medicinal plants from the Thap Thim Siam 05 village project in Sakaeo Province under the supervision of the Institute's Special Activities Office.

Police Find No Drug Residue In Car Tied To Heroin Delivery

Police found no drug residue in a gray Toyota Yaris used to deliver heroin to a flight attendant at a condominium, prompting investigators to rely on DNA, fingerprints, and CCTV footage instead.

13h ago Khaosod

At 3 p.m. on July 3, 2569, Lieutenant General Wathi Asutwutmangkur, commander of the National Police Forensic Division, led officers in collecting evidence from a gray Toyota Yaris ATIV seized from a 59-year-old driver. The driver had transported a man in a blue hoodie to deliver a package containing hidden heroin to flight attendant Mina at a condominium.

Officers focused on collecting DNA and latent fingerprints from around and inside the vehicle, particularly the trunk area where the man in the blue hoodie was observed removing the heroin-filled package. Investigators examined the trunk lining and checked for any residual heroin traces that may have fallen during the transfer.

"Initially, we found no powder residue," Wathi said. "We suspect the area was cleaned or wiped down where the package was placed, so we will need to rely on CCTV footage from the scene as additional evidence."

Wathi added that latent fingerprint results from inside the vehicle should be available within three days, which will help identify who was present in the car. Based on preliminary observation, the vehicle appeared relatively clean despite not being recently washed, and no visible drug residue was observed.

"It's important to remember that the package seen in photos was not packed inside the vehicle," Wathi explained. "Therefore, the likelihood of finding spilled material in the car may be minimal or nonexistent. We will see what evidence we can collect and send it to the laboratory for detailed analysis."

Police have also identified the recipient of the heroin package as a woman named 'Dier,' who is linked to drug networks in northeastern Thailand.

PM Mobilizes All Agencies Against Drug Trafficking Networks

Prime Minister Anuthind Chanyaweerakul convened an emergency meeting to intensify the fight against drug trafficking, vowing to dismantle criminal networks at their source rather than pursue street-level arrests, citing Thailand's national

13h ago Khaosod

Prime Minister Anuthind Chanyaweerakul convened an urgent meeting at 2:40 p.m. on July 3, 2025, to address drug trafficking operations, particularly efforts to prevent narcotics from being smuggled to Australia. The PM emphasized the need to dismantle criminal networks at their source rather than simply conducting street-level arrests. "If we can't solve this, Thailand's honor will be gone," he declared.

The PM stated this would be his first time personally overseeing the national drug committee, saying he felt honored to work directly with all agencies involved. He pledged full support and vowed to treat drug suppression as a national priority, mobilizing all government and private sector resources under his authority as Prime Minister.

The PM acknowledged that while law enforcement agencies have achieved notable monthly drug seizures, current efforts mainly obstruct trafficking routes rather than eliminating the problem entirely. He noted that criminal networks continually adapt their methods, making enforcement a perpetual game of cat-and-mouse. "Why should we risk our officers' lives in this endless cycle?" he asked, signaling determination to pursue a more comprehensive strategy targeting trafficking at its roots rather than waiting to intercept drugs at the border.

Ancient Gold Rings With Brahmi Script Found in Phetchaburi

Two ancient gold rings bearing Brahmi script dating back 1,900–2,100 years have been unearthed at an archaeological site in Phetchaburi, revealing evidence of early Indian-Thai trade and suggesting the wearer was a merchant.

13h ago Khaosod

Phetchaburi — The Fine Arts Department is conducting a rescue operation to recover human skeletal remains and artifacts from the Don Yai Thong archaeological site in Samop Ploem Subdistrict, Ban Laad District, Phetchaburi Province. The excavation has been affected by groundwater, salinity, and humidity during the rainy season, risking damage to the remains and artifacts.

According to Panom Boonkaset, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, during archaeological documentation on July 2, researchers discovered two additional gold rings from skeleton number 4. One is a signet ring with ancient script engraved on its bezel.

Dr. Uten Wongstit from Silpakorn University's Archaeology Department and ancient language experts from the Fine Arts Department preliminarily identified the script as ancient Indian Brahmi, dating to the 5th-7th Buddhist century, or approximately 1,900-2,100 years ago. The inscription reads "Pusarashita," meaning "belonging to Pusarashita" or one protected by the auspicious star Pushya. The ring owner is believed to have been a member of the merchant class. The second ring is a plain gold band without decoration.

This discovery provides important evidence of trade and cultural relations between the Suvarnabhumi region and India in ancient times. Similar Brahmi script has previously been found on ornaments and seals at Khlong Tom in Krabi Province and Khao Sam Kaew in Chumphon Province.

The Fine Arts Department is expediting careful recovery of the human remains using appropriate methods, including individual piece extraction and block lifting for fragile skeletal material. For a recently discovered child skeleton with a large bronze vessel positioned at its center, the block-lifting method will be used to preserve the artifacts in their best condition.

Mexico Media Threatens To Reveal England Team Hotel Location

Mexican media has threatened to reveal England's team hotel location ahead of their 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca on July 6th, aiming to disrupt players' rest through fan interference.

13h ago Khaosod

Mexican media has threatened to release hotel information for England national team players to Mexican football fans ahead of the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match at Estadio Azteca on July 6th. The threat is designed to intimidate England's players by disrupting their rest before the competition.

English players are likely to struggle with sleep as Mexican media has warned of releasing their hotel location to local fans to welcome them with disruption. Reports suggest Mexican fans will certainly gather outside the hotel to weaken England's team through various means including car horn blasting, chanting, fireworks, and drumming to cause maximum disruption.

Beyond psychological warfare, England players must also contend with an unfamiliar environment. Estadio Azteca sits at approximately 2,240 meters above sea level, which will cause breathing difficulties for the English players. This is their first official meeting since 1986.

Tournament organizers and the English Football Association have implemented clear damage-limitation measures, including increased hotel security, stricter entry and exit controls, and contingency plans to relocate to alternative accommodation. Revealing team locations during major tournaments carries significant risk of converting enthusiastic fan support into targeted disruption aimed at breaking player concentration. Managing this balance is now a top priority for tournament officials.

Police Seize 6,700 Bottles In Counterfeit Liquor Crackdown

Police arrested three suspects and seized over 6,700 bottles of counterfeit foreign liquor during a coordinated operation in Chachoengsao, Bangkok, and Samut Prakan provinces that uncovered a sophisticated manufacturing and distribution rin

13h ago Khaosod

On July 3, 2569, the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Revenue Department coordinated a major operation against a counterfeit liquor network. Led by senior officials including Pol. Lt. Gen. Natthsakdi Chaovenasai and coordinated with revenue authorities, the operation announced results of investigating an illegal liquor manufacturing and distribution ring.

The investigation began when officers discovered a retail outlet in Chachoengsao province engaged in illicit counterfeit liquor sales. Deeper investigation revealed a sophisticated criminal organization with specialized divisions handling procurement, manufacturing, packaging, warehousing, and distribution to evade police detection. The counterfeit spirits were distributed to retailers across the region at suspiciously low prices.

Officers conducted searches at eight locations: five liquor retailers in Chachoengsao Province, two residential buildings in Bangkok's Bang Khun Thian and Bang Bon districts used as production facilities and money collection points, and one warehouse in Samut Prakan Province.

The operation seized over 6,700 completed bottles of counterfeit foreign brand spirits and approximately 478,054 pieces of related equipment including bottle capping machines, packaging boxes, stickers, and bottle seals.

Three suspects were arrested: Abhiwat (surname withheld), age 37; Yupha (surname withheld), age 50; and Wuthichai (surname withheld), age 54. They face charges under the Trademark Act B.E. 2534 for possessing counterfeit trademarked goods for sale. All three initially denied knowledge that the goods were counterfeit, claiming ownership of legitimate products. Investigators remain unconvinced and continue expanding the investigation to pursue other network members, including financial backers, raw material suppliers, and distributors.

Rev. Lt. Yongyut Phoompredesha noted that this successful operation resulted from close coordination between the two agencies, preventing distribution of over 6,700 bottles of illegal imported spirits. Preliminary assessment indicates the government lost approximately 2.2 million baht in tax revenue, with distribution networks identified across eastern Thailand tourist areas.
