Police Education Bureau Launches 119th Criminal Investigation Training Course to Cultivate Modern Detectives with 'Detective Spirit'
Thailand's Police Education Bureau has launched the 119th criminal investigation training course, designed to train modern detectives equipped with advanced investigative skills to combat increasingly complex crimes including cybercrime and transnational criminal networks. The training program, running from May to August 2025, brings together legendary investigators and experienced experts to share practical knowledge and the 'detective spirit' with approximately 80 police trainees. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical and practical investigative techniques, behavioral analysis, and instilling ethical values to enhance the Royal Thai Police's effectiveness in solving major cases.
The Police Education Bureau has opened the 119th criminal investigation training curriculum to pass down the 'detective spirit' and develop next-generation investigators capable of handling today's complex crimes. On May 12, 2025, Police Lieutenant General Nithithorn Jintakananth, Commander of Police Education, presided over the opening of the criminal investigation training course at the Central Police Training Command. Police Major General Decha Kalyawudhipong, Deputy Commander of Police Education, and Police Major General Theeradej Thammasuthee, Deputy Commander of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police, participated in the opening ceremony and shared knowledge on investigative work with trainees.
The Royal Thai Police Office approved two criminal investigation training courses for fiscal year 2025: the 118th course (April 20 - August 7, 2025) and the 119th course (May 11 - August 28, 2025), to develop the capabilities and enhance the investigative skills of approximately 80 police officers.
Given that modern crime has become increasingly complex—including transnational crime, cybercrime, call center gangs, and criminal networks employing sophisticated evasion techniques—developing in-depth investigative skills is crucial for enhancing the capacity of investigators to work efficiently, keep pace with modern-era criminality, and build public confidence.
This training course emphasizes developing both theoretical and practical investigative skills by consolidating knowledge, experience, and insights from experienced and expert personnel from the Royal Thai Police Office to create 'modern-era detectives' with knowledge, meticulousness, analytical thinking, and the instincts of professional investigators.
The curriculum covers criminal behavior analysis, evidence-based investigation, investigation framing, crime scene data analysis, witness interviews and interrogation, systematic investigation planning, and modern techniques and technology for criminal investigation to enhance efficiency in solving major cases.
A key highlight is providing a platform for senior detectives and veteran investigators from major Royal Thai Police cases to share real-world experience, investigative techniques, and 'the heart of detective work,' including legendary northern investigators Police Major General Kongdej Choosei and Police Major General Preechar Thimamanteri, legendary southern investigators Police Lieutenant General Thanu Homhuon and Police Lieutenant General Wannarat Kothraksak, and professional detective Police Lieutenant General Noppasil Poolswat with extensive experience in solving major national cases, along with many other distinguished mentors sharing knowledge with trainees.
One crucial concept conveyed to trainees is: 'As long as police fear influence, how can people live together?' to instill courage, integrity, adherence to law, and performance of duty for the public within police moral and ethical standards.
Police Lieutenant General Nithithorn stated that investigation is a critical component of the justice process that enhances case resolution efficiency, builds public confidence, and elevates the Royal Thai Police investigative standards to meet increasingly complex modern crime patterns.
