Police, local administrators, lifeguards, and rescue personnel have mobilized a search operation for a drowning victim at Ton Beach in Thalang, Phuket. On the evening of May 15th, a man ignored red flag warnings and entered the water, where he was swept away by waves over 2 meters high. Lifeguards attempted a rescue but were unable to reach him in time. A Camry sedan with Chiang Rai license plates was found parked at the scene.
This morning, local officials and rescue teams established a search command center at Ton Beach. Lifeguards confirmed the missing man was a Thai national traveling alone. Red flag warnings had been posted all day, and staff were actively clearing tourists from the water due to monsoon season conditions with strong winds and approaching storms.
"We normally prohibit swimming here," officials stated. "Just yesterday we had two similar incidents on a single day, but we were able to rescue those individuals. We urge tourists to strictly follow our safety warnings."
Investigation revealed the missing person is Police Lieutenant (ร.ต.อ.) stationed in Phang Nga, who came to Phuket to deliver packages before visiting the beach. CCTV footage shows he entered the water alone multiple times, returning to his vehicle 2-3 times before venturing out again and disappearing. Preliminary information indicates he was an avid swimmer with one year of service as an investigator. Search efforts continue despite challenging conditions with strong waves and rain.
