Motorcycle-Riding Gold Robbers Caught After Samut Sakhon Shopping Mall Heist; Former Convict Accomplice Arrested in Nan Province

Motorcycle-riding gunman "Jok" arrested after robbing 1.61 million baht in gold jewelry from a Samut Sakhon shopping mall in May; police also caught his accomplice in Nan Province.

3 May Khaosod

In a significant breakthrough, Region 7 police have successfully arrested 'Jok,' the motorcycle-riding gunman who robbed gold jewelry worth approximately 1.61 million baht from a store in a Samut Sakhon shopping mall on May 1st at around 7:40 p.m. They also apprehended 'Khao,' a former convict who aided in the escape to Nan Province.

The robbery unfolded when a man, approximately 170 centimeters tall and dressed in a motorcycle jacket with a face-covering helmet, entered the gold shop. He drew a handgun, threatened employees, then vaulted over a glass display case and grabbed 23 baht of gold ornaments before escaping via the mall's escalator and fleeing on a motorcycle.

Brigadier General Theeradej Athipakchul, commander of Samut Sakhon Provincial Police, stated that both suspects are being transported back to Samut Sakhon for interrogation. He confirmed that this is classified as an armed robbery requiring formal confession procedures.

Notably, the same jewelry store was targeted on May 17, 2023, when a suspect dressed as a lineman stole 15 baht of gold before being arrested. Investigators are currently examining whether the two incidents are connected.

New Thai Chamber of Commerce President Pimjai Unveils '5I' Vision to Drive Economic Growth at 1.2-1.6%

New Thai Chamber of Commerce President Pimjai Leeisaranukul has launched a comprehensive '5I' strategic initiative to drive Thailand's industrial growth amid modest economic projections of 1.2-1.6% GDP expansion in 2026. The five pillars include intelligent industry adoption, innovation and creative sector development, international alliances, infrastructure reform, and institutional strengthening to help Thai businesses compete effectively amid global challenges and structural economic changes. The strategy prioritizes technology adoption, brand development, supply chain integration, energy efficiency, regulatory reform, and human capital development.

3 May Khaosod

Pimjai Leeisaranukul, newly appointed president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), has unveiled a comprehensive policy framework for 2026-2028 under the banner "The New Chapter of Thai Industry: Empowering Growth with 5I" to establish fresh growth foundations for Thailand's industrial sector. Thailand's economy is projected to expand modestly at 1.2-1.6% GDP growth in 2026 amid global economic volatility and rapid structural changes, forcing Thai businesses to contend with elevated production costs, supply chain uncertainties, and increasingly stringent trade requirements.

The TCC will execute five key initiatives: I1-Intelligent Industry aims to elevate manufacturing through AI and automation to reduce costs and enhance efficiency toward smart factories and original equipment manufacturing, supported by systematic access to capital, technology, and knowledge, particularly through partnerships with government and financial institutions to develop specialized financing tools like AI & Automation Transition Loans.

I2-Innovation & Creative Industry seeks to transform Thai industry from contract manufacturing into branded, high-value production by leveraging intellectual property and implementing industry-driven research and development to bridge the gap between research and commercial application, while promoting Thai brands and emerging sectors such as health and wellness and rail transport systems.

I3-International Alliance & Network leverages Thailand's neutrality to attract new investment and expand trade opportunities in high-potential industries, integrating supply chains domestically and regionally to position Thailand as an effective Regional Industry Hub.

I4-Industrial Infrastructure Reform restructures Thailand's industrial foundations to reduce costs, enhance competitiveness, and advance sustainable economics by addressing energy constraints through clean energy adoption and cost-effective alternatives like Direct PPAs, reforming outdated regulations via Regulatory Guillotine and Omnibus Law approaches, and protecting Thai industries from unfair competition through an AI-enabled Trade Remedy Early Warning System.

The initiative also emphasizes the Made in Thailand Plus policy to increase domestic product consumption and expand both domestic and international markets, while prioritizing human capital development through upskilling, reskilling, AI and robotics collaboration, and global talent attraction.

Arne Slot Shows No Plans to Leave Liverpool Despite Stalled Contract Negotiations

Liverpool manager Arne Slot remains committed to the club despite stalled contract talks, with his deal containing just 12 months remaining. The club's board is confident Slot will stay and lead a turnaround after a disappointing season.

3 May Khaosod

Reports reveal that Arne Slot remains committed to Liverpool and has no plans to leave the club, even as contract renewal talks have hit a standstill. Liverpool had initiated negotiations for a new deal with Slot, but progress halted following the team's underwhelming performance this season. According to Telegraph reporter Dominic King, Slot has only 12 months remaining on his contract and theoretically could explore other options after Liverpool's final match against Brentford, but that simply isn't his style. Meanwhile, Liverpool's board maintains confidence that he will lead the team forward again. Reports also suggest that Slot is planning staff changes for the upcoming summer transfer window, considering bringing in John Heitinga or Etienne Renan—both former collaborators—to replace current assistant Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is expected to join Feyenoord as technical director.

Dr. Jed Warns: 5 Vegetables People with Kidney Disease Should Avoid! Eating the Wrong Ones Burdens the Kidneys and Can Cause Heart Arrhythmias and High Blood Pressure

Dr. Jetsadej Bunyanvongvirocha from Maha Sarakham Hospital warns kidney disease patients to avoid five vegetables high in potassium and sodium: bitter greens, piper leaves, mushrooms, broccoli/cauliflower, and pickled vegetables. Excessive consumption of these foods can strain weakened kidneys and potentially cause heart arrhythmias and high blood pressure. Instead of avoiding vegetables entirely, he recommends choosing low-potassium options, soaking and blanching vegetables to reduce mineral content, and consulting healthcare professionals for proper portion control.

3 May Khaosod

Dr. Jed Warns: 5 Vegetables People with Kidney Disease Should Avoid! Eating the Wrong Ones Burdens the Kidneys and Can Cause Heart Arrhythmias and High Blood Pressure

Dr. Jetsadej Bunyanvongvirocha, Deputy Director of Primary Care at Maha Sarakham Hospital, shares medical guidance on Facebook about vegetables to avoid due to their harmful effects on kidney health.

5 Vegetables People with Kidney Disease Should Avoid!

"Many people, once they learn their kidneys are declining, immediately try to eat more vegetables thinking it's definitely good for them. But for kidney patients, I need to tell you first: 'Some vegetables, if eaten incorrectly, can become a burden on your kidneys.' Especially concerning are potassium and sodium, which your kidneys can no longer eliminate as effectively. If these accumulate excessively, they can affect your heart and blood pressure. So it's not about avoiding vegetables entirely, but about 'knowing what to watch out for' and eating the right amount."

Bitter Greens / Amaranth Greens This vegetable group contains fairly high potassium, approximately 550-700 mg per 100 grams. If consumed in large quantities, especially when blanched or boiled, while these cooking methods reduce some potassium, the levels still remain high. People with stage 3 kidney disease and above should limit intake to no more than half a cup per meal and eat infrequently, as there's a risk of potassium accumulation that can cause undetected heart arrhythmias.

Piper Leaf / Young Peppery Leaf A homegrown vegetable many people enjoy, but it contains high potassium, approximately 400-600 mg per 100 grams. It's typically eaten in multiple servings, leading to hidden accumulation. Especially for those with kidney function below 60, caution is strongly advised. It's recommended to significantly reduce the amount or avoid it entirely if potassium levels are already elevated, as there's a risk of complications.

All Types of Mushrooms (Especially Oyster and Shiitake Mushrooms) Mushrooms contain fairly high potassium, approximately 300-500 mg per 100 grams, and are typically consumed in large quantities in soups, stir-fries, or hot pots. People with mid to late-stage kidney disease should limit consumption to no more than one small teaspoon per meal and avoid eating them multiple times in a single day, as potassium accumulation can occur unknowingly.

Broccoli / Cauliflower This vegetable group contains moderate potassium, approximately 250-350 mg per 100 grams. For the general population, this is considered excellent, but for those with kidney disease, portions must be controlled. It's recommended to eat no more than one small cup per meal and avoid consuming multiple servings in a single day, especially for those with elevated potassium levels. These should be alternated with other vegetable types.

Pickled / Processed Vegetables The concern here is 'sodium,' which is very high, approximately 700-1,200 mg per 100 grams, from the pickling process. This puts greater strain on kidney function to eliminate waste and increases blood pressure. This is especially dangerous for those with kidney disease. It's recommended to avoid these foods, or if you must eat them, rinse them first and consume only the minimum necessary amount.

Dr. Jed also recommends: How to eat vegetables safely?

- Choose low-potassium vegetables such as cucumber, zucchini, or light green Chinese cabbage (approximately <150 mg/100 grams) - Cut into small pieces, soak in water for 2-4 hours, and blanch before discarding the water to reduce potassium - Don't repeatedly eat the same vegetable or consume large quantities in a single meal - Avoid pickled and processed foods to reduce sodium accumulation in the body - If you have stage 4-5 kidney disease, consult a doctor or nutritionist to control portions appropriately

"People with kidney disease can still eat vegetables," Dr. Jed says. "But you need to understand that your kidneys' ability to eliminate potassium and sodium has declined. If you eat the wrong type or too much, mineral levels in your blood can become dangerously high, especially causing heart arrhythmias. So choose wisely, control your portions carefully, and you'll truly help preserve your kidneys and reduce your body's burden in the long term."

Pattani province launched its 'Desirable City Year of Celebration' with KATPRO On The Beach, a grassroots muay thai competition at Wasukhree Beach designed to boost sports tourism and community livelihoods in the southern region.

3 May Khaosod

Pattani province launched its 'Desirable City Year of Celebration' on May 2, 2025, at Wasukhree Beach in Sai Buri District with the 'PATTANI NIGHT FEST ON THE BEACH' event. General Nortthip Phoynaok, Regional Command 4 commander, officially opened the KATPRO On The Beach grassroots muay thai fighting competition as part of a cultural-based sport tourism project designed to elevate traditional community activities into tourism products. The event drew large crowds of locals, tourists, and muay thai enthusiasts from both Thailand and Malaysia.

Notable attendees included Pattani Governor Patimah Sadiyamu, Dr. Suparani Kuptasa (advisor to Thailand's Kickboxing Association), and various government and private sector representatives from both nations. The atmosphere reflected strong multi-sector cooperation in driving creative initiatives in Sai Buri District. Beyond the muay thai matches and decorative lighting, the Tourism Authority of Thailand showcased a spectacular drone display featuring over 500 drones creating aerial formations above the beach.

General Nortthip emphasized that the event aligns with sustainable tourism principles focused on 'quality and identity' rather than volume, incorporating marine resource conservation and community participation. The initiative serves as a mechanism to elevate fishing traditions and local livelihoods into sustainable economic, social, and cultural assets for Pattani Province. KATPRO On The Beach provides a platform for athletes nationwide while strengthening sports and cultural relations with neighboring countries, particularly Malaysia. Dr. Suparani, a native of Sai Buri, aims to establish Wasukhree Beach as a continuous venue for sports and cultural tourism events to attract both Thai and international tourists. The strong participation from Thailand and Malaysia signals positive momentum for Sai Buri's economy and tourism sector, generating income for local businesses, merchants, communities, and youth while using sports as a medium to foster love, unity, and peace in Thailand's southern border region.

Retired Police Officer Shoots Dead Son, Drug Addict, After Rampage Over Money and Knife Attack

A retired police officer fatally shot his 38-year-old son at their home in Nakhon Sawan after the drug-addicted man attacked his mother with a knife and attempted to access his father's gun.

3 May Khaosod

A retired police officer turned himself in to authorities after shooting and killing his 38-year-old son, a drug addict, at his home in Moo 7, Ban Takrud Phibal, Wang Nam Lad Subdistrict, Phaisali District, Nakhon Sawan Province. Officers responding to reports of gunfire on May 2 found the victim, Nathapol, with seven gunshot wounds to his torso and arms, still clutching a knife in his right hand. Eight 9mm cartridge casings were recovered from the scene.

The suspect, a 64-year-old former police officer and Phaisali Station regular, surrendered immediately and confessed to shooting his son. He provided his service-issued 9mm pistol as evidence. According to neighbors and the officer's account, the incident escalated when the son demanded money from his mother and was refused. The son became violent, attempting to stab his mother and other family members with a knife while also trying to access his father's gun. Fearing for his family's safety, the retired officer retrieved the weapon and fired, striking his son fatally.

Neighbors described the suspect as a calm individual who had recently retired two years ago. They noted that the son, living separately, frequently visited asking for money and would become belligerent and unstable when denied funds. The violence on this occasion apparently exceeded previous incidents. Police are conducting a detailed investigation and have filed homicide charges while the case proceeds through legal proceedings. Regarding the firearm, as it was a registered weapon used within his own home and the incident occurred on private property, no firearms law violations have been identified at this stage.

Wild elephants kill park volunteer in Prachinburi

A 53-year-old park volunteer was fatally trampled by two wild elephants in Thap Lan National Park in Prachinburi after a dog startled the resting animals during his patrol on May 2.

3 May Khaosod

PRACHINBURI — On May 2, 2026, two wild elephants in Thap Lan National Park fatally trampled a park volunteer during his patrol, according to park authorities. The attack, which occurred around 18:00 in a bamboo forest on the edge of the national reserve bordering rubber plantations in Na Di district, is believed to have been triggered when a dog startled the animals as they rested.

Yosawat Thiansawat, director of Conservation Area Administration Office 1 (Prachinburi), received notification from Thap Lan National Park chief Prawattisat Chanthep that a rapid-response elephant monitoring team had reported the fatal incident. District chief Somjai Phutthasena, police investigator Lt. Col. Alongkorn Phukhama, and rescue workers from the Sajja Phutthatham Foundation responded to the scene in Ban Khlong Din Daeng, Thung Pho subdistrict.

The victim was identified as Thirachai Ngamsan, 53, a member of the national park volunteer protection unit. His body showed severe trauma with deformed arms and legs from heavy impact. Multiple elephant footprints and the victim's belongings—including a shoulder bag, radio, hat, and two water bottles—were found scattered around the area.

Thirachai's wife, Somporn Basala, 43, reported that her husband had left home early that morning to tap rubber and failed to return by 15:00. She discovered his body around 16:00 and alerted neighbors and authorities.

Local elephant monitoring officials determined from evidence at the scene that two elephants had been present, with signs indicating they had been lying down. They believe the victim encountered the resting animals during his patrol accompanied by a dog, which barked and startled the elephants, causing them to charge and attack fatally.

Park chief Prawattisat extended condolences to the victim's family and pledged assistance according to Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation regulations. The body was sent to Na Di Hospital for autopsy before being returned to relatives for funeral rites.

PTT Exploration and Production Reports 7.3 Billion Baht in State Revenue, Operating at Full Capacity to Meet Energy Demand

PTTEP generated 78.8 billion baht in revenue during Q1 2025 and delivered 7.3 billion baht to the Thai state through taxes and royalties, while ramping up natural gas production from the Gulf of Thailand to bolster national energy security

3 May Khaosod

Montri Rawaloychaikul, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), revealed that in the first quarter of 2025, the company generated total revenue of 78.841 billion baht (equivalent to 2.491 billion US dollars) with net profit of 11.835 billion baht (equivalent to 376 million US dollars), delivering over 7.3 billion baht in revenue to the state.

The company's average petroleum sales volume reached 553,369 barrels of crude oil equivalent per day, a 14% increase from the same period last year, driven primarily by increased petroleum production from domestic projects and new investments made during 2024, including the Thai-Malaysian Joint Development Area Block A-18, the Algeria Touat project, and the Malaysia Block SK408 project, with average product selling prices at 46.02 US dollars per barrel of crude oil equivalent.

"Through these operational results, the company has remitted state revenue totaling approximately 7.3 billion baht in the first quarter of 2025 through corporate income tax, royalties, and other benefit-sharing arrangements, up from approximately 6.8 billion baht in the previous year, contributing to national development in areas such as community development, education, and research and development," Montri stated.

The state also receives production sharing from petroleum projects G1/61 and G2/61 under production sharing contracts (PSC), providing direct revenue from petroleum production that can be utilized for further national development.

Montri noted that the unstable situation in the Middle East has caused crude oil and natural gas prices to rise in the global market. The company therefore prioritizes increasing natural gas production from the Gulf of Thailand in line with the Ministry of Energy's policy to mitigate the impact on energy consumption by citizens and various industries.

Previously, the company has maximized natural gas production capacity to approximately 2.72 billion cubic feet per day from the daily contractual quantity (DCQ) of approximately 2.5 billion cubic feet per day. The increased natural gas comes primarily from the Arthit project, the Thai-Malaysian Joint Development Area B17-01, Contract 4, and project G2/61. This natural gas serves as the primary fuel for electricity generation, contributing to the stability of Thailand's electrical system and energy security while reducing dependence on increasingly expensive imported fuel.

Natural gas produced from the Gulf of Thailand has significant potential to serve as important raw material for the petrochemical industry and related industries, including plastics, synthetic materials, synthetic fibers, packaging, fertilizers, construction materials, and various everyday products, thereby strengthening and driving the country's economic value chain.

"The conflict in the Middle East has had significant impact on the economic system, energy security, and livelihood of people in many countries worldwide. Therefore, the management of domestic energy resources with stability is extremely important," Montri emphasized.

As a result, the company has increased natural gas production from domestic sources to the highest level possible to support electricity generation for daily use, serving as part of mitigating energy impact and reinforcing the country's energy security.
