Phamuang Task Force soldiers conducting border patrols intercepted an armed group smuggling methamphetamine, heroin, and raw opium into Thailand, resulting in four deaths in Mae Ai, Chiang Mai.

On July 3, 2025, Colonel Sathit Waiyanon, Phamuang Task Force commander, assigned Deputy Commander Major Michay Nilsat to oversee the evidence inspection with relevant agencies. The seized narcotics included 1,162,000 methamphetamine pills, 3.85 kilograms of heroin, 25.6 kilograms of raw opium, three rifles, and one machete.

Illegal Resort Demolished, Area Reopens as Tourist Viewpoint

Thailand's Environment Minister has ordered development of a razed illegal resort in Erawan National Park, Kanchanaburi, into an eco-tourism viewpoint offering 360-degree vistas of the Srinakarin Dam and surrounding mountains.

12h ago Khaosod

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has ordered the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants to accelerate rehabilitation of the area following the demolition of the illegal forest-encroaching "Rai Rak Fah" resort within Erawan National Park in Sri Sawat District, Kanchanaburi Province. The site will be developed as an eco-tourism destination allowing public access to nature, with all work conducted strictly according to national park regulations.

Following enforcement action against the resort for illegally occupying protected parkland, Suchart instructed the department to expedite landscape improvements and enhance tourist safety standards. He emphasized that all development steps must comply with laws and national park procedures to ensure proper and sustainable results.

Suchart stated the area has high tourism potential and will be developed into "Erawan Nakhonrinchit Viewpoint," one of the most beautiful scenic overlooks. Visitors will enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Srinagarinda Dam encircled by verdant mountains, along with morning mist atmospherics and golden sunset light.

The minister stressed the development will balance tourism with conservation, avoiding large permanent structures that disturb nature. Instead, it will employ environmentally-friendly landscaping materials consistent with the original forest, with clearly defined use areas to prevent ecosystem damage. This will allow the reclaimed forest to fully restore its watershed and wildlife habitat functions.

Public access will operate under strict safety protocols, including an information center staffed continuously for visitor guidance, increased park ranger patrols coordinated with local police, designated nature study trails and safe photography points, and clear warning signs to prevent accidents and visitor mishaps.

"Converting an encroached area into a natural tourism destination must be done carefully according to procedures so the public can trust this is a safe, orderly, and sustainably beautiful space for everyone," Suchart concluded.

SEC Files Civil Case Against Five For VL Stock Manipulation

The SEC is pursuing civil lawsuits against five individuals who refused to accept penalties for manipulating V.L. Enterprise stock prices, seeking combined compensation of over 5 million baht plus maximum trading bans.

12h ago Khaosod

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has asked prosecutors to file a civil lawsuit against five individuals accused of manipulating the price and trading volume of V.L. Enterprise Public Company Limited (VL) shares to seek maximum penalties under the law.

The SEC's Civil Penalty Committee imposed penalties against a total of nine offenders in the VL stock manipulation case, requiring combined payments of 10,854,500 baht as civil penalties, compensation for unjust gains, and reimbursement of SEC investigation costs. The committee also banned offenders from securities trading for 17 to 22.5 months and from serving as directors or executives for 34 to 45 months, depending on the case.

Four cases were settled at the SEC level. However, five other offenders—Supassit Pokindjarutasmi, Pornanee Megdamrongsaeng, Buaran Rungruengnaowrattana, Natthapaphat Kerchaimongkol, and Pichetsaad Phumsatriphirun—refused to accept the SEC's civil penalties. Therefore, the SEC has requested prosecutors to file civil lawsuits against these five individuals seeking total compensation of 5,079,141.55 baht plus interest, along with maximum trading bans and prohibitions on serving as company directors or executives under the law.

The SEC has also referred the case to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) for action, as the unlawful securities trading conduct constitutes a predicate offense under Thailand's Anti-Money Laundering Act of 1999.

Germany, Poland Seize 1.2 Tons of Cannabis Shipped from Thailand

German and Polish authorities seized 1.2 tons of cannabis worth €12 million hidden in shipping containers that originated in Thailand and passed through Hamburg port destined for Poland.

12h ago Khaosod

Germany and Poland jointly dismantle international drug trafficking network, seizing nearly 1.2 tons of cannabis worth approximately 12 million euros, or over 456 million baht, hidden inside shipping containers filled with bricks.

The smuggling route originated in Thailand, passed through Hamburg port in Germany, and was destined for Poland. International drug trafficking groups concealed massive quantities of narcotics using seemingly legitimate commercial shipments, hiding cannabis inside brick-filled shipping containers. This seizure demonstrates how criminal networks increasingly exploit commercial shipping routes and international supply chains.

Of eight suspects arrested, six remain in custody awaiting trial. Authorities report investigations are proceeding intensively, with expectations of revealing additional details about the network's structure and other participants as the multi-country investigation advances.

Hundreds Protest Shrine Owner's Knife Threat at School

Over 100 residents protested at a shrine owner's home in Satun Province after she allegedly brandished a machete and threatened female students at an adjacent school on July 1. The dispute stems from months of complaints over school noise,

12h ago Khaosod

More than 100 community representatives, led by subdistrict chief Ariya Minniphran and village headmen, gathered on July 3, 2026, to surround and protest the residence of Phu Phya Nak 9 Heads Shrine, which sits adjacent to Ban Wang Pring School in Tha Reua Subdistrict, Tha Pae District, Satun Province. They demanded immediate relocation following an incident on July 1 around 5 a.m., when the shrine owner allegedly entered school grounds brandishing a machete and verbally threatened female students during early morning volleyball practice. Security footage captured the knife-wielding incident clearly, and students reported the woman threatened to shoot them if they returned.

School principal Somchai Madangga revealed the dispute has been ongoing for months. Previous community protests occurred in late 2025 over noise complaints regarding school activities such as sports training, loudspeaker announcements, and Islamic prayer preparations. Despite the school's attempts to compromise—redirecting speakers, reducing volume, and suspending morning announcements—the neighbor continued harassing behavior including throwing rocks at the girls' dormitory and setting off firecrackers during kindergarten naptime. Somchai stated the students have become anxious and unable to focus, with plans underway to erect screening barriers along the 165-meter boundary and permanently seal a side gate, while filing complaints with the education ministry.

The shrine owner's female partner admitted walking into the school with a machete but denied any intent to harm, claiming she only wanted to scold the children about the noise. She cited her bedridden mother's need for rest and accused the principal of violating previous noise-control agreements, which caused her stress. The protest atmosphere remained tense as residents refused to accept intimidation of students. To prevent escalation, Ta Pae Police invited the couple for further questioning at the station. Once authorities removed the couple from the scene, the nearly 100 gathered residents dispersed peacefully without serious incident.

12h ago Khaosod

On July 3, 2025, police in Kok Samrong district, Lopburi province, received a report of a death inside a sedan parked near a water reservoir in Huay Pong. Officers arrived with forensic technicians, on-duty doctors, and rescue personnel to investigate. The car was positioned facing the reservoir with a woman's body on the driver's seat and a dog beside her. Both were deceased. Inside the vehicle, police found six farewell letters and an urn containing the remains of the woman's deceased mother on the back seat. Preliminary examination revealed no signs of violence, and authorities suspect death by asphyxiation. The body was taken to Kok Samrong Hospital for autopsy.

Local residents reported the vehicle had been parked at the reservoir since the evening of July 2, 2025. On the morning of July 3, a local villager who came to graze cattle noticed the car still in the same position and became suspicious. Upon checking, he found the woman and dog dead inside and immediately notified authorities.

Relatives who arrived at the scene identified the deceased as a 47-year-old schoolteacher with a medical history of depression and multiple previous suicide attempts. The six farewell letters corresponded with her mental health struggles. Family members expressed no suspicions regarding the death. Police documented the scene, interviewed witnesses, and collected evidence. The body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a formal autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

Aston Villa is targeting Japan's national team goalkeeper Syon Suzuki from Parma to replace departing Argentine keeper Emiliano Martinez in the Premier League. According to BBC, Aston Villa is openly considering selling the 33-year-old Martinez to reduce costs and lower the squad's average age. While James Trafford, Manchester City's backup goalkeeper, is one option, 23-year-old Suzuki—who delivered impressive performances for Japan's national team in the 2026 World Cup campaign—is also on the club's radar. Suzuki played every minute of the World Cup and earned substantial praise for multiple outstanding saves. Born in the United States to a Ghanaian father and Japanese mother, Suzuki's family later settled in Japan. He came through Urawa Red Devils' academy before joining Sint-Truiden on loan in 2023, then transferring permanently to Parma the following year. In his debut Serie A season, Suzuki started 37 matches and recorded 7 clean sheets, with his market value estimated around 20 million euros.

12h ago Khaosod

The Southeast Asian Games Federation has signed a four-year sponsorship agreement with Songsamai Ratchathewi 2525 Company to supply athletic uniforms and apparel for SEA Games officials, totaling 2.4 million baht, beginning with Malaysia's SEA Games and concluding at Singapore.

General Chaiyaphakdi Sirivatana, president of the Southeast Asian Games Federation, signed the agreement with Songsamai Ratchathewi 2525 Limited, represented by managing director Kalawat Gongruengkit, under contract number SEAGF Contract 1/2026. The four-year contract (2026-2029) supports SEA Games operations and competitions, ending after the 35th SEA Games in Singapore, at 600,000 baht annually for a total of 2.4 million baht.

Benefits include official SEAGF trademark usage to market athletic uniforms, shirts, and related products; public relations rights; advertising placement at both Malaysia's 34th and Singapore's 35th SEA Games venues; website publication rights; access to opening and closing ceremonies and competitions; and five accreditation cards per event. The sponsor must submit product samples and logo usage for SEAGF approval before production, with strict prohibitions on modifying trademarks, transferring rights without permission, or supporting competing products.

General Chaiyaphakdi explained that SEA Games officials previously lacked a primary uniform sponsor. Foreign officials viewing Thailand's uniforms expressed interest, leading to discussions with Songsamai, which has long supplied blazer uniforms for Thai athletes and Olympic officials. The company agreed, resulting in today's contract signing.

University Finds Three Fraud Risks In Local Civil Service Exam

Srinakharinwirot University identified three fraud risks in a local civil service exam, including suspicious contact from an outside person attempting to control score compilation and result announcement. The university has submitted all ev

13h ago Khaosod

At 3 p.m. on July 3, 2025, Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) held a press conference at its Prasarnmit campus. University Rector Prof. Dr. Chaiwit Chiarajit, accompanied by Associate Rector for Legal Affairs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rituichai Onming and Associate Rector for International Relations Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prabhaporn Rojsirittan, announced findings regarding fraud allegations in a local civil servant recruitment examination.

Prof. Dr. Chaiwit expressed shock upon learning of the irregularities and stated he has given the matter highest priority. He ordered the Testing Center director—who took the position for the first time this year—to submit all documents and flash drives to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) immediately. The university established a fact-finding committee to ensure transparency and fairness.

"I want to reaffirm that if any SWU staff member is found involved in fraudulent activities causing harm to the university, the university will not protect them. We are prepared to cooperate fully with all parties to uncover the truth and ensure justice," Prof. Dr. Chaiwit stated.

Regarding the parliamentary committee's claim that SWU failed to clarify facts, the rector said the university has already requested a postponement of testimony pending completion of the fact-finding investigation, which remains ongoing. He confirmed readiness to testify if summoned again.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rituichai explained that the fact-finding process has been difficult because the original answer sheets and flash drive have been handed to NACC. Interviews with five individuals in the first round revealed multiple significant issues, divided into two parts:

First part: Investigation of exam question development, selection, manuscript preparation, and answer sheet verification found no irregularities suggesting fraud. The university confirmed exam questions were not leaked.

Second part: The investigation identified critical issues potentially leading to fraud. First, there was contact with an outside person—whose identity remains unclear—who expressed intent to handle score compilation, result consideration, or announcement independently and informed the Testing Center of this. This involved announcing results for exam sections A and B and English language test scores, which determine eligibility for section C and potential civil service listing. The university compiled results on two flash drives: one sent to the Department of Local Administration, the other kept as backup by SWU.
