Man Nearly Loses Home in Power Bank Explosion, Fire Spreads Uncontrollably
A power bank purchased online for 400 baht exploded and caught fire in a Samut Prakan home, nearly causing the house to burn down. The homeowner was only charged the device and placed it on a table when it suddenly ignited, but his wife managed to quickly throw it outside before the fire could spread further. The incident has prompted calls for authorities to inspect the safety standards of products sold online.
A Samut Prakan family had a terrifying experience when a power bank suddenly exploded while the wife was using her phone indoors. The woman tried to extinguish the flames with a pillow, but the fire only grew stronger, forcing her to throw the device out of the house. The blaze damaged curtains and a door before being brought under control.
The homeowner, 45-year-old Kittisak, a motorcycle delivery driver, purchased the power bank online for 400 baht without verifying its authenticity or safety certification. He chose it simply because of the low price. On the day of the incident, he had just fully charged the device and placed it on a table without leaving it plugged in when it suddenly exploded. His wife's quick action to extinguish the fire prevented a potentially catastrophic loss.
Kittisak is urging relevant authorities to inspect the quality and safety standards of products sold online, as consumers have no way of knowing whether items meet proper standards until they use them and an accident occurs. He warns that if no one had been home or if the power bank had been left in a vehicle, the damage could have been far worse.
