Casillas Opposes Mourinho's Return to Real Madrid – Should Give Xabi Alonso Another Chance

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has publicly rejected the possibility of Jose Mourinho returning as manager, arguing that better-qualified coaches are available for the position. Instead, Casillas advocates for giving Xabi Alonso a second chance to lead the Spanish giants, comparing his potential impact to that of Zinedine Zidane's successful tenure.

5d ago Khaosod

Iker Casillas, the legendary former Real Madrid goalkeeper, has made it clear he does not want to see Jose Mourinho return as manager for a second stint, citing more suitable alternatives and advocating for the club to give Xabi Alonso another chance.

Real Madrid is seeking a high-profile manager to manage the egos of its superstar players, following reports of discord within the squad. Jose Mourinho, currently managing Benfica in his native Portugal, is reportedly in negotiations with Real Madrid to return to the club after previously leading them from 2010-2013.

Casillas recently posted on Twitter, stating: "I have no personal problem with Mourinho. He's a good professional, but I simply don't want him back as manager. I believe there are other coaches who are better equipped and more suitable for managing a club that is like a life to me. This is just my personal opinion, nothing more."

Casillas also believes the club should give Xabi Alonso a second opportunity, despite Alonso being recently sacked after only seven months in charge. He argues that Alonso is the perfect fit to take Madrid forward, citing successful examples like Zinedine Zidane.

"If we're giving someone another chance, I think Alonso is the right choice. He's a manager who brought success to Bayer Leverkusen. He's young and ready for Real Madrid. He would be the perfect manager to bring continuity and confidence to the players, just like when Zidane took over from Rafael Benitez and everything clicked into place," Casillas said.

Anuthин Declares Those Who Encroached on Freedom Beach for Decades Must Face Prison; Built 300-Step Staircase Without Government Knowledge

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul conducted a helicopter inspection of Freedom Beach in Phuket on May 13, 2026, following up on enforcement actions against decades-long illegal encroachment by commercial operations on the public beach. The Prime Minister apologized to affected residents for the delayed government response, pledged to protect them from intimidation, and vowed that those responsible for the illegal occupation would face legal consequences and be required to make full restitution.

6d ago Khaosod

At 6:00 PM on May 13, 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Interior Minister traveled from Phuket International Airport before boarding a helicopter to Freedom Beach in Patong subdistrict, Kathu district, Phuket, to monitor the arrest of those illegally encroaching on public beach areas.

The Mueang Phuket district officer reported that Freedom Beach has been unlawfully occupied since around 2009—nearly two decades—with commercial establishments such as shops and restaurants operating for tourism profit. The operations were leased and sold to foreign nationals, and visitors were charged entrance fees of 100-300 baht to access the beach. Following strict measures implemented by the Phuket governor, 23 cases have been filed against the perpetrators.

The Prime Minister questioned how authorities allowed this problem to persist for over a decade without intervention. The district officer acknowledged previous confiscations and multiple prosecutions over the years, but noted that violators repeatedly resumed their illegal activities.

After hearing the report, Anutin walked among residents and listened to complaints from those affected by land encroachment. Residents held signs requesting the Prime Minister's help. Anutin stated that a full team had come to listen and assigned responsibility to the Phuket governor, the Natural Resources and Environment Minister overseeing the Forestry Department, the Interior Ministry overseeing the Land Department and provincial electrical authority, and the Transport Minister. He assured residents that intimidation would cease as perpetrators had been arrested.

When Anutin asked if residents had filed police reports to ensure adequate official oversight, residents expressed concerns about influential figures in the area and requested reassurance and compassion from the Prime Minister, showing him pictures of these influential individuals on their phones.

Anutin bowed apologetically and said: "I ask for your compassion and apologize for arriving too late. There is nothing you should ask compassion for from me. We failed by helping too late. Let us make amends completely."

Residents thanked the Prime Minister, saying the influence of these figures would end from that moment forward. Anutin responded: "It ended yesterday. I believe everyone here understands what happened. I stand with you. I am the Prime Minister, the highest civil servant in the bureaucracy. If I stand with you, then good civil servants will not dare side with influential figures."

Anutin then called the Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry and Phuket Governor into the discussion, saying: "They are my subordinates. If residents feel concerned, you can contact us anytime."

The Prime Minister emphasized that government land belongs to the state, while residents' homes that already exist and have been damaged by encroachment will be repaired by the government. He pledged to coordinate with security agencies including the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), military authorities, district officials, and volunteer territorial defense units to ensure safety and protection. "Believe me. Let people earn their living and live normally. We will handle everything. Those responsible must pay compensation for encroaching on government land, displacing honest residents, using threats and violence, and committing abuses. This has been happening for over a decade."

Trump arrives in Beijing for talks with China's Xi on Iran war, trade and US arms sales to Taiwan

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for a high-level summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping focused on trade, the Iran war, and Taiwan relations. The formal bilateral talks and state banquet begin Thursday, with Trump hoping to secure Chinese purchases of American agricultural and industrial goods. The visit occurs amid domestic pressures from inflation linked to the Iran conflict and ongoing trade tensions between the two superpowers.

6d ago Khaosod

BEIJING (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for his highly anticipated talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the Iran war, trade and U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

The core of the summit kicks off Thursday when the two leaders conduct bilateral talks, visit the Temple of Heaven—where ancient Chinese emperors once prayed for abundant harvests—and attend a formal state banquet. China rolled out the red carpet for Trump's arrival, literally and figuratively, as Air Force One touched down in the Chinese capital.

Trump was welcomed by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue, China's Washington ambassador Xie Feng, and executive vice foreign minister Ma Zhaoxu. The welcoming ceremony featured a military honor guard, brass band, and roughly 300 Chinese youth dressed in white and robin's egg blue—matching Air Force One's colors—waving flags and chanting welcome greetings as the president made his way to his motorcade.

"We're the two superpowers," Trump told reporters before departing Washington. "We're the strongest nation on Earth militarily. China's considered second."

The visit comes at a sensitive moment for Trump's presidency, with his domestic approval ratings weighed down by the ongoing U.S.-Israel war with Iran and inflation tied to the conflict. Trump is eyeing a diplomatic win by securing Chinese commitments to purchase more American soybeans, beef and aircraft, with trade as his primary focus.

The administration hopes to establish a Board of Trade with China to resolve bilateral differences and prevent a repeat of last year's trade tensions triggered by Trump's tariff increases. China responded with restrictions on rare earth minerals, though the two countries agreed to a one-year ceasefire last October.

Yet the Iran conflict remains front and center on Trump's domestic agenda. The war has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, tranding oil and gas tankers and sending energy prices soaring—a spike that threatens global economic stability. Trump downplayed expectations that Iran would be a significant discussion point with Xi.

"We have plenty to discuss, but Iran isn't really one of them, to be honest," Trump told reporters Tuesday. "We have Iran very much under control."

Taiwan's status looms large on the agenda, with China expressing displeasure over U.S. arms sales to the self-governing island.

Ruthless Creditor Kills Woman with Axe After Failed Debt Collection Attempt

A 52-year-old man killed a 74-year-old woman with an axe in Ubon Ratchathani province after she told him the land promised as collateral for her daughter's 100,000 baht debt had already been seized by another creditor. He confessed and is i

6d ago Khaosod

A ruthless creditor, unable to collect 100,000 baht from a debtor's daughter, turned violent when he discovered the promised land collateral had already been seized by another creditor. In his rage, he wielded an axe against the mother instead, fatally wounding her.

On May 13, 2025, Deputy Superintendent Katawaong of Buuntharik Police Station received a report of a murder. An elderly woman had been killed along a roadside near Khao Saeng Thong Charoen temple in Buuntharik district, Ubon Ratchathani province. A team including investigative officers, on-call physicians, and rescue workers responded to find 74-year-old Sangwian lying in a pool of blood beside a white and blue Honda Wave motorcycle, wearing a white and black floral shirt and brown sarong. An autopsy revealed two deep axe wounds to her neck that severed major blood vessels, with death occurring approximately 1-2 hours prior.

Witness Porn (pseudonym), 70, a neighbor who had ridden with the victim, described a terrifying encounter. After making merit offerings at a temple that morning, 52-year-old Sakkri, a neighbor from the same village who was tending buffalo nearby, stepped into the road and confronted the victim about a 100,000 baht debt owed by her daughter Lammul. When Sangwian explained that the land she had promised as collateral had already been seized by another creditor, Sakkri became enraged. He drew an axe he had with him and struck her in the neck, causing her to fall. He then delivered a second, fatal blow to the same area before fleeing.

The witness escaped to alert authorities and neighbors, but Sangwian died before help could arrive. Police tracked down Sakkri at his residence, where he confessed and revealed he had hidden the axe in a water basin 30 meters from the scene.

Sakkri admitted under questioning that since 2567, he had loaned Lammul a total of 100,000 baht with an agreement to collateralize 2 rai of land. However, she never honored the agreement, refused to repay the money, and failed to provide the promised land. Though village officials arranged a payment plan of 1,000 baht per month, Lammul never complied. That morning, while tending his buffalo, he encountered Sangwian and asked her to settle the land matter, but she refused. Feeling wronged and impoverished, he acted in fury, killing her with the axe he was carrying before surrendering to authorities.

Lammul tearfully claimed her mother was uninvolved in the matter. She acknowledged borrowing from Sakkri for daily expenses and had promised to use her inherited land as collateral, but that land had already been seized by another creditor before Sakkri's claims. She stated Sakkri had frequently threatened her to repay the debt. They had recently agreed to a 1,000 baht monthly payment plan, but she was unable to pay during the rubber harvest closure season. Lammul expressed her desire for justice for her mother, refuting social media claims that her mother was a serial debtor, insisting her mother never knew of or borrowed from Sakkri.
