Enough is Enough! Spanish Buffet Implements 'Vomit Fine' Policy After Customers Overeat and Get Sick
A Spanish sushi buffet in Seville has begun charging customers extra if they vomit from overeating, citing repeated incidents that disrupted service and created hygiene problems at the establishment.
A Spanish buffet restaurant has had enough. Sushi Toro in Huelva, Seville, Spain is making headlines online after announcing it will charge customers extra if they vomit due to overeating at their all-you-can-eat establishment.
The popular Japanese buffet restaurant has faced a recurring problem in recent months: some customers have been eating excessively, leading to multiple incidents of vomiting inside the restaurant. These incidents have disrupted the dining atmosphere, created extra work for staff, and raised sanitation concerns.
A sign posted in the restaurant states clearly: "If a customer vomits due to overeating, the restaurant reserves the right to charge an additional fee to compensate for damages and costs incurred as a result of such incidents."
The restaurant's management explained that the problem extends beyond cleanliness issues—it also affects the service experience for other customers and the restaurant's overall hygiene standards. This prompted them to implement the measure to discourage excessive eating.
"We work hard to serve food promptly and maintain hygiene standards," the management stated. "We ask for cooperation from all customers because these incidents are affecting everyone dining with us."
While the restaurant has not disclosed the exact fine amount, their buffet prices range from €16.90 (approximately 642 baht) to €23.90 (around 907 baht), depending on the day and time.
After the news went public, reactions on social media have been mixed. Some view the policy as "a reasonable measure" that discourages overeating, while others criticize it as "overly strict" for an all-you-can-eat establishment.
