Dramatic Rescue: Firefighters Recover Gold Ring Wrapped in Tissue Paper from Drainage Pipe
Emergency rescuers in Rayong Province successfully retrieved a gold ring worth 30,000 baht that a woman accidentally kicked into a drainage pipe at a morning market. Using a makeshift wire hook, the team carefully fished out the ring wrapped in tissue paper from approximately 1 meter below the surface in about 10 minutes, reuniting the relieved owner with her precious jewelry.
On the morning of May 10, 2025, Siam Rayong rescue personnel received a call about a young woman whose gold ring had fallen into a drainage pipe near Nong Faep morning market in Muang District, Rayong Province. Upon arrival, they found the distraught 30-year-old woman standing outside the market, explaining that her 2-baht gold ring—worth over 30,000 baht—had fallen into the approximately 1-meter-deep drainage pipe.
Rescue workers fashioned a wire hook in an L-shape to fish out the tissue bundle and ring from the pipe. The task proved challenging as the tissue paper became tangled and waterlogged, while the scorching heat left the rescue workers drenched in sweat. Market vendors gathered around, anxiously watching and cheering on the team as they worked to retrieve the ring. Due to the small opening of the drainage pipe cover, rescuers had to bend down and carefully locate the tissue paper. After about 10 minutes of effort, they successfully pulled the tissue-wrapped gold ring from the pipe, prompting tears of joy from the ring's owner, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
The woman explained that she had ridden her motorcycle to the market to shop. After completing her purchases, she reached into her pocket to get money to pay the vendor, and tissue paper came out along with her wallet. She threw away the tissue but didn't realize her gold ring was wrapped inside it. As she was leaving the market, she accidentally kicked the tissue bundle into the drainage pipe. When she realized what had happened, she panicked, crying in fear that the water would sweep the ring away. Market merchants immediately notified rescue personnel for assistance.
