Coalition Leader Welcomes Opposition's Shadow Cabinet Plan to Oversee Government
Coalition committee chairman Grueai Paisananantkul said the government does not oppose Pheu Thai Party's plan to establish a shadow cabinet for government oversight. He stated that if the opposition's initiative is constructive, the government welcomes their input and recommendations for policy improvements. Grueai believes the shadow cabinet will ultimately benefit citizens by providing additional oversight of government operations.
At 2 p.m. on April 27, 2025, at Parliament, Grueai Paisananantkul, Ang Thong representative and Phumijai Thai Party member serving as chairman of the coalition coordinating committee in the House of Representatives, commented on the Pheu Thai Party's plan to establish a shadow cabinet to scrutinize government operations. He stated this is the opposition's right and represents a positive development, as the opposition would have direct responsibility for monitoring various government initiatives. He emphasized that the government will consider the substance of the shadow cabinet's work and believes the government welcomes input from the opposition, particularly if presented constructively. Any recommendations that can be incorporated into government policy would be appreciated by both the Prime Minister and cabinet members. When asked his assessment of the shadow cabinet's performance, given the Democratic Party's previously active shadow cabinet, Grueai said he prefers to observe its work first before offering further comment. He noted that ultimately, citizens benefit from having a shadow cabinet, which adds another layer of oversight scrutiny.
