BANGKOK — 8 July 2026, A Thai woman has gone viral after sharing her experience of undergoing three separate surgeries for nearly 50 gallstones, which she believes were linked to drinking Thai iced tea every day for about a decade.

In a Facebook post, the woman shared a health warning about her daily habit of drinking Thai iced tea after it led to abdominal pain, prompting her to seek hospital treatment. Accompanying photographs of gallstones removed during treatment, she wrote: "The result of drinking #ThaiIcedTea every day: 19 gallstones."

She later followed up in the comments to answer questions from netizens, explaining that she typically drank one glass of Thai iced tea each day, sometimes two, while consuming very little plain water. She said she had maintained the habit for around 10 years before developing abdominal pain beneath the right side of her ribcage, prompting her to seek medical attention.

Doctors diagnosed her with gallstones and scheduled three surgeries. She said the first procedure was not photographed, while the images she shared online were taken after the second surgery. She added that doctors estimated she had nearly 50 gallstones in total and that a third operation was scheduled three months later.

Although the woman believes her long-term Thai iced tea habit contributed to her condition, doctors generally say gallstones develop from multiple risk factors, including genetics, diet, obesity, age, rapid weight loss and certain medical conditions. There is no conclusive evidence that drinking Thai iced tea alone directly causes gallstones, though excessive consumption of sugary beverages may contribute to overall health risks.

Thailand's stock market demonstrated clear recovery signals in June 2025 across all metrics—the index, liquidity, and foreign capital inflows—as domestic economic factors improved. "June saw improvements across returns, liquidity, and foreign investment flows, with the SET Index approaching 1,600 points and gaining approximately 26% since year-start," Chatrchai said.

Foreign investors returned to buying, with net purchases of 6,906 million baht on the SET and mai in June, bringing first-half net buying to approximately 27,000 million baht. Foreign investors accounted for 53.3% of trading value in June, followed by domestic retail investors at 31.7%, domestic institutional investors at 7.4%, and securities firms at 7.7%.

Chatrchai attributed part of the foreign capital return to easing geopolitical tensions, particularly progress on Middle East peace agreements that lowered oil prices and reduced inflation concerns. However, the market must monitor fragility in peace agreements, U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate direction, and volatility from technology and artificial intelligence sector adjustments in global markets.

Thailand's improving economy supported the market, with the Bank of Thailand raising its 2025 growth forecast to 2.3% from 2%, driven by export momentum, lower-than-expected Middle East conflict impacts, and government stimulus measures. International rating agencies including Moody's and S&P Global Ratings maintained stable outlooks for Thailand's creditworthiness.

Analysts began adjusting upward earnings forecasts for multiple business sectors, with market-wide earnings per share (EPS) recently climbing above 100 baht per share.

Police investigation found that she had been illegally selling e-cigarettes to the general public and students from her rented room in Tambon Sila, Muang district, Khon Kaen, located near a well-known university. During questioning, she admitted to selling e-cigarettes for eight months, sourcing them from Southern Thailand through the LINE application and reselling them at a 50-baht profit per unit through the same platform. Her customer base consisted primarily of students, teenagers, and local residents.
