A tour bus traveling from Bangkok to Mukdahan was the scene of tragedy when a Laotian passenger died en route, leaving her young son devastated and crying for his mother. On May 16, 2025, police investigators including Pol. Lt. Kittivatana Konharn arrived at the Mukdahan bus station to examine the body of 29-year-old Pone from Savannakhet, Laos, found deceased at the rear of the bus. Near her body were water bottles, snacks, and personal items, with medications discovered in her bag, suggesting a possible illness or chronic condition as the cause. Authorities are awaiting detailed autopsy results for confirmation.
According to the investigation, Pone had boarded the bus in Bangkok with her 5-year-old son, sitting at the back of the vehicle. During the journey, she complained of fatigue and abdominal pain before going to use the rear bathroom. Upon returning, she collapsed and lay down. Passengers eventually noticed she was not breathing and immediately informed the driver, who stopped and contacted authorities.
The incident left all bus passengers deeply shaken, particularly during the heartbreaking moments when the young boy repeatedly cried out trying to wake his mother. Authorities quickly coordinated with relevant agencies to provide care for the child and locate the deceased's relatives to claim her body.
