75 Years of Thai Vivat Insurance: Nurturing Seeds of Opportunity Through the 'Partnership School Project'

Thai Vivat Insurance celebrates 75 years by expanding its Partnership School Project across five schools nationwide, aiming to reduce school dropout rates and develop potential in remote areas. The initiative combines scholarships covering hidden expenses, the Winner English digital learning program, and community-based virtue school projects, all designed through collaboration with teachers and local communities. The company emphasizes a sustainable development approach that complements—rather than burdens—existing school efforts.

5d ago Khaosod

Students across the country are learning English through computer screens with dedication, many receiving educational scholarships that cover daily living expenses to ensure regular school attendance, while classrooms are implementing virtue-based school activities in collaboration with their communities. Though these scenes may seem small to ordinary observers, for students, teachers, and people in remote areas, they represent 'critical educational opportunities' that can genuinely transform lives.

Three years ago, Thai Vivat Insurance Company (Public) Limited joined the Partnership School Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Thai Chamber of Commerce, undertaking a mission far greater than charity: reducing the risk of children dropping out of the education system and developing the potential of students in remote areas. The company oversees five schools nationwide that operate under a new development model that can be measured and scaled effectively.

The project uses a Co-Creation approach to design activities together with teachers and communities at each school, working closely with the Yuva Development Foundation through three main tools to transform 'opportunity' into 'genuine educational development': (1) Thoughtfully-designed scholarships covering hidden expenses including transportation, meals, and equipment that might otherwise push children out of school, allowing students to develop skills fully without family financial worries; (2) The Winner English program, which provides computers and self-learning English software with mentoring support to give students easier access to English and improve their chances for further education and future employment; (3) Virtue School projects with customized plans for each school reflecting local children's lifestyles and community contexts, rather than one-size-fits-all templates.

Thepiphant Asvadhanasgul, Vice Chairman and Director of Thai Vivat Insurance, stated: 'Thai Vivat wants to be more than just a donor—we want to be a sustainable development partner walking alongside teachers, schools, and communities throughout this journey. Through our collaboration with Yuva Development Foundation, which has expertise in education, process design, and impact monitoring, we believe sustainable development has no single formula, but begins with understanding each area's context to design programs that truly match children's needs and aspirations.'

Kanokwan Chaosr, Director of the Hundred Strength Education Initiative from Yuva Development Foundation, said: 'Many remote schools face significant constraints in budgets, personnel, and teaching materials, while teachers are already overburdened. The Partnership School Project prioritizes not adding more work to schools, but rather filling gaps in ways that fit each community's context. We believe sustainable development cannot happen with one organization alone, but requires continuous collaboration to create changes that teachers and schools can sustain.'

Thai-Norwegian racing driver Sandy Kraakiaew Stuvik, competing under Ford Thailand Racing (FTR), Thailand's first team of its kind, is prepared to take on the country's largest annual motorsports competition, the Thailand Super Series (TSS), in the Super Pickup class. For the 2026 season, Sandy has set his sights on winning the annual championship alongside his team while delivering pride and excitement to motorsports fans.

The year 2026 marks a crucial turning point for FTR as the team significantly expands its roster to strengthen its competitive grid. This season, Sandy will join YK Motorsports, a vehicle development team, to spearhead development of the team's new racing project.

Under this new partnership, Sandy will race a Ford Ranger single-cab with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine in the Super Pickup class, which has become one of the most fiercely competitive divisions in the series. This year, 39 vehicles are entered in the competition, making it a speed battle where even a single second's mistake cannot be afforded.

Moving to YK Motorsports represents not just a new opportunity but also comes with significant challenges, as the team must rapidly build and develop an entirely new racing package within a limited timeframe before the season opener at Chang International Circuit in Buriram Province on May 22-24. Having just claimed victory in the final race of the 2025 season, Sandy is confident heading into competition, though he remains vigilant about the increasingly intense competition year after year.

Sandy stated: "I'm very pleased to work with Ford Thailand Racing again, marking our seventh season together. This year presents another major challenge with the new vehicle development team. We're working together to fine-tune our new racing car, and although time is somewhat limited, I'm ready to give my all to push the team forward into contention and fight for our ultimate goal of winning this year's championship."

The Thailand Super Series 2026 season opener will ignite excitement from May 21-24 at Chang International Circuit in Buriram Province. Motorsports fans cannot miss a blink, as Sandy's new team debut could become one of the season's most significant highlights.

Abbot Suspects Insider After Buddha Images Stripped Bare; Replica Buddha Footprint Also Stolen

Thieves systematically stripped brass ornaments and sacred items from Wat Tham Kunchon Ratkit in Ratchaburi, including a prized Buddha footprint replica, with the abbot suspecting an insider after a temple youth was found with stolen brass

5d ago Khaosod

Abbot Thruad expressed devastation over the systematic theft of Buddha images stripped of their brass ornaments throughout the temple, describing the violation as deeply wounding. The abbot suspects an insider—possibly a temple youth—after police found brass pieces that the youth claimed the abbot had given him, raising questions about how stolen sacred items ended up being removed at night.

On May 14, residents near Wat Tham Kunchon Ratkit in Nong Krathum, Pak Tho district, Ratchaburi province, reported a major theft. The hillside temple, which houses only three resident monks, suffered extensive losses including all brass crowns from over 10 Buddha images, three historically significant Buddha Chinaraj images, a small brass Buddha figure, the large brass replica Buddha footprint from the cave meditation chamber, electrical panels, plugs, two air conditioning units, ceiling fans, wiring, and surveillance cameras. Brass water faucets were also stripped out.

Abbot Phaanuphong Phurinyano revealed the thefts occurred gradually—first the air conditioners were removed, then fans, wiring, and water faucets. The most heartbreaking loss was the large brass replica Buddha footprint housed in the cave, constructed over 10 years ago with donations from devoted supporters. The abbot believes thieves cut it into pieces to sell incrementally, as removing it whole would be impossible.

The primary suspect is a temple youth who was caught with two brass pieces claimed to be gifts from the abbot. When police inquired, the abbot realized these pieces were from the stolen footprint. The suspect claimed to have caught the thief himself, but the abbot questions why he then took items away at night. The abbot did not reprimand him, leaving the matter to police investigation and legal proceedings.

The distinction highlights CP Group's commitment to integrating environmental, social, and governance practices into its corporate strategy and long-term business operations. Several CP Group subsidiaries, including True Corporation, CP ALL, and Charoen Pokphand Foods, also received top-tier rankings in their respective industries.

5d ago Khaosod

On May 11, 2025, Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) has been ranked in the top 5%, placing second globally in the Industrial Conglomerates sector in The Sustainability Yearbook 2026, based on S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment with a score of 82 out of 100 points. This marks the fifth consecutive year the group has received international recognition for sustainable business practices.

The 2026 assessment included over 9,200 companies worldwide, with only 848 selected for inclusion in the Sustainability Yearbook, including 48 leading Thai companies, reflecting the intense evaluation criteria and high level of competition. Among the Industrial Conglomerates category with 95 participating organizations globally, only five companies achieved the highest scores: Keppel from Singapore, CP Group from Thailand, SK Inc from South Korea, Doosan Corporation from South Korea, and Metlen Energy & Metal from Greece.

Robert Dornau, Head of Corporate Solutions & Engagement at S&P Global Energy, explained that organizations scoring above 80 points demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability, consistent achievement of set targets, and effective management of business risks and controversies. Organizations scoring between 60-80 points show clearer disclosure and sustainability targets, while those below 60 points are typically in the policy development and initial systematic data collection phases. Current sustainability assessment trends increasingly emphasize emerging issues including AI governance, biodiversity, and supply chain management as critical factors reflecting organizations' long-term sustainable business potential.

Dr. Theeraphol Thawaithamnukkul, Executive Chair of Corporate Sustainability and Strategic Development at CP Group, stated that this achievement reflects the group's continuous and tangible sustainability initiatives, integrating environmental, social, and governance concepts into corporate strategy, risk management, and long-term investment decisions. "CP Group views sustainability as central to long-term business operations, not merely a supplementary activity, but a comprehensive management framework spanning corporate policy, technology, operations, and governance—all of which impact stakeholder and global investor confidence," he said.

Beyond the corporate group level, CP Group subsidiaries also achieved leading rankings in their respective sectors: True Corporation ranked in the top 1% of Telecommunication Services (ranked 2nd with 95 out of 100 points), while CP ALL and CP AXTRA placed in the top 5% of Food & Staples Retailing (ranked 2nd with 88 out of 100 points), and Charoen Pokphand Foods ranked in the top 10% of Food Products (ranked 3rd with 83 out of 100 points). These results reflect CP Group's comprehensive sustainability performance across diverse business sectors.

Health Ministry Clarifies: Is a 3-Minute Shower Really Enough? How Long is Safe for Your Skin?

Thailand's Public Health Ministry has clarified that a 3-minute shower is insufficient, dismissing viral claims as misinformation. Experts recommend 5-10 minutes as the optimal shower duration to balance thorough cleansing with skin protection, as excessively long showers strip natural oils while very brief ones may not remove dirt and bacteria effectively.

5d ago Khaosod

The Digital Economy and Society Ministry's Anti-Fake News Center addressed a widely-shared message claiming "a 3-minute shower is enough, no need for 30 minutes," confirming it as misinformation. According to the Public Health Ministry's investigation, while excessively long showers (30 minutes) do damage skin by destroying natural oils and causing dryness and irritation, showers that are too brief (3 minutes) may not provide thorough body cleansing, especially if heavily soiled. Most experts recommend bathing for approximately 5-10 minutes, striking a balance between maintaining cleanliness and protecting skin health.

Dermatological and preventive medicine research supports these findings: water exposure or prolonged water contact exceeding 15-20 minutes, particularly with warm water, dissolves the lipid barrier that protects skin, resulting in xerosis (dry skin) and potentially triggering inflammatory skin conditions. The ideal shower duration to maintain skin moisture is no more than 10 minutes using normal or warm—not hot—water. Effective cleansing requires sufficient time to thoroughly lather and remove bacteria and accumulated dirt, typically requiring at least 5 minutes. A 3-minute shower may reduce cleaning effectiveness in certain body areas.

Funeral Ceremony Dispute Escalates: Family Files Complaint with Provincial Buddhist Affairs Office After Abbot Bars Monks from Rival Temple

A dispute at a funeral ceremony in Chumphon has escalated into a formal complaint against a temple abbot who prevented monks from a neighboring Buddhist temple from participating in funeral chanting rites. Family members and community disciples of late revered monk Luang Pho Proong are seeking intervention from provincial Buddhist authorities and requesting that the abbot be transferred and replaced with neutral clergy to resolve the ongoing tension between the temple and community.

5d ago Khaosod

At 10 a.m. on May 14, 2025, Virot, 53, from Salui Subdistrict in Tha Sae District, Chumphon Province—the brother of the deceased Serem (Kuay)—along with relatives and Amornrat Junkrajchai, a representative of Luang Pho Proong's disciples' association, filed a formal complaint with Phra Khru Bundit Thammatada, acting provincial Buddhist abbot, at Koh Kaew Dusit Yarnrangsaritsdi Temple in Wang Phai Subdistrict. The complaint detailed an incident from May 12, 2025, at Tham Phru Takian Temple's funeral pavilion, where the host had invited 15 monks from Tham Phru Takian Temple and 10 monks from Khao Chedi Temple in Patiu District—25 monks total—to chant funeral rites. However, the abbot of Tham Phru Takian Temple refused to allow the Khao Chedi monks to sit on the designated platform, claiming it was "temple policy." This caused significant displeasure among the family and community members, as both temples are disciples of the late Luang Pho Proong Chotigo, a renowned southern Thai monk.

The complaint raised five key questions to the Chumphon Provincial Buddhist Council: whether Buddhist teachings prohibit monks from chanting funeral rites together; what teachings the abbot violated; how the council would resolve the issue; what punishment the abbot would face if he violated Buddha's teachings; and a request to transfer the abbot and appoint neutral clergy to replace him, given that the community had helped establish Tham Phru Takian Temple alongside Luang Pho Proong.

Phra Khru Bundit Thammatada responded that he was awaiting factual reports from the monastic hierarchy before considering solutions, emphasizing that "temples and communities must depend on each other."

The complainants subsequently filed an additional complaint at the Chumphon Provincial Buddhist Affairs Office, where director Busra Kaowchaturad received them personally. She stated she would coordinate with the Tham Phru Takian Temple abbot to clarify the facts and rationale behind the policy to resolve the community dispute.

Aggressive King Cobra Found Nesting During Home Renovation in Nakhon Nayok

Rescue workers in Nakhon Nayok successfully captured a large, aggressive king cobra that was nesting in a bamboo grove near a home undergoing renovation on May 14, 2025. The 3-meter-long cobra, which weighed about 20 kilograms, was found brooding four eggs before being relocated to its natural habitat. Workers were startled when they discovered the threatening snake while cutting bamboo to build a painting station for the home renovation project.

5d ago Khaosod

On May 14, 2025, the Sawang Ariyadej Radio Rescue Center in Nakhon Nayok received a report of an aggressive king cobra nesting in a bamboo grove beside the home of Supchai Ketruangrojn (house number 3-452). The discovery was made when construction workers hired to renovate and paint the house began cutting bamboo nearby to build a painting station. The workers found the large cobra in an aggressive state, brooding eggs inside a burrow in the bamboo grove, and immediately alerted the homeowner to call rescue services.

When rescue officers arrived at the scene, they found the cobra's head protruding from the burrow opening as it brooded its eggs. After using a bamboo pole to probe the hole, the cobra retreated deeper underground. Officers then widened the burrow opening with a shovel and discovered four cobra eggs, which they carefully extracted and placed on the ground.

To extract the snake itself, rescuers sprayed mosquito repellent into the burrow, which was approximately 5 meters deep. The pungent odor drove the cobra to emerge from the hole, allowing rescue officers to successfully capture it using tongs and place it in a fertilizer bag.

The cobra measured 3 meters in length and weighed approximately 20 kilograms. The captured snake was subsequently released in a natural habitat. Afterward, workers gave journalists a tour of the house address to check nearby lottery numbers ahead of the upcoming drawing.
