Prompong Points to 34-Year May Massacre Lesson: No Political Conflict Is Worth the Cost of People's Lives
On the 34th anniversary of the May Massacre, a Thai political figure warns that no political conflict justifies the loss of civilian lives, urging all parties to prioritize economic solutions over prolonged disputes.
On May 16, Prompong Nopruetee, former spokesman for the Thai for Thais Party, stated that May 17 marks the 34th anniversary of the May Massacre—an important lesson Thai society must never forget. The event clearly demonstrates that when political conflict reaches a deadlock, ordinary citizens bear the heaviest toll and losses. No political disagreement is worth the lives of the people. The May Massacre lesson serves not merely as a historical reminder, but as a warning to all current parties that politics must find solutions based on democratic principles, listening, and accountability to the people—not allow differences of opinion to cause further losses.
"Politics may have winners or losers, but if the people must suffer losses, the country has no true winner," Prompong stated. "Many people today face hardships from economic conditions, rising living costs, energy prices, transportation costs, and expenses burdening daily life."
What people need most right now is not prolonged conflict, but solutions for the country, economic hope, and improved quality of life. Prompong called on the government and all relevant parties to urgently and seriously address people's economic problems and cost of living. Regardless of political disagreements, people's survival cannot wait. The May Massacre lesson is not meant only to recall the past, but to warn the present that political differences must not end in the people's losses once again.
