Chaiyachai Dethadecho, a Democrat Party list MP serving as deputy party leader for the Southern region, inaugurated the "Democrat Party Volunteer Lawyer Project" Southern Region office at Sarapetch Law Office and Associates in Phangnga on May 16, 2026. The event was attended by party deputy secretary-general Kunthawan Tantiear, Southern branch chief Sakorn Keouakong, former MP Dr. Pimrapee Puntavichatigun, and Sarapetch Thipmonthian, chairman of Phangnga Bar Association and former MP candidate, along with volunteer lawyers and residents.
Chaiyachai stated that the project is an initiative of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and the party to establish a center providing legal consultation and assistance to help relieve citizens' suffering and ensure broad access to justice. The clinic will eventually expand to cover all five regions of Thailand.
Chaiyachai explained that Phangnga was chosen as the first location because the Andaman area is a major tourism destination generating significant income for the country, making it essential for visitors to have confidence in the justice system. The region also faces numerous disputes, particularly between citizens and the state.
"Many people face legal problems regarding land, debt, lawsuits, or daily life issues but don't know where to turn for help. The Democrat Party wants to provide a space where people can consult and receive genuine assistance," Chaiyachai said.
He further expressed confidence that the volunteer lawyer clinic will serve as a beacon of equality and justice for the people, and the party will continue opening similar clinics across all areas, demonstrating its commitment to closely, promptly, and fairly addressing the welfare of citizens.
