Travels with Basil

A 77-year-old traveler embarks on adventures with Basil, his Jack Russell terrier, beginning in Phuket on an unexpectedly clear morning that inspires a journey together.

19 May The Phuket News Life

I had the idea on a morning that had no business being as clear as it actually was. Aged 77, I am unsurprised when a certain fog settles over my mornings – over memory and purpose for example – but that day the light over Phuket was sharp as a blade and Basil, my Jack Russell terrier, was already pacing the bedroom, like an impatient admiral.

Push to Increase Flights at Regional Airports, Creating Opportunities to Boost Secondary City Economies

Thailand's transport ministry is pushing regional airports to increase flights and boost secondary city economies through cost-reduction incentives and new route development across the North, Northeast, and South.

19 May Khaosod

Deputy Transport Minister Pattrapong Pattarapreechit chaired discussions with airline associations to support increased flights to regional airports and boost secondary city economies, while seeking relief measures from Middle East conflict impacts. The meeting included Airports of Thailand Director-General Danai Rueangsan, Thai Civil Aviation Authority Director General Manat Chuwanprayoon, and Thai Airways International Acting Director Surachai Nuprom to promote aviation services at regional airports.

Pattrapong revealed that the discussions represent important public-private sector integration to maximize the capacity of regional airports in the North, Northeast, and South, which currently have growing potential to handle more flights and passengers. The proposed incentives would not only reduce airline operating costs but also create convenient travel options for the public, directly benefiting income distribution and strengthening grassroots economies at the regional level. Airlines are encouraged to consider opening new domestic and international routes, expanding flight frequencies to major and secondary cities through both regular and charter flights.

Airports of Thailand Director-General Danai Rueangsan noted that previous 2025 promotional measures for domestic routes—such as service fee reductions for new routes and airlines—successfully attracted carriers including Thai Lion Air on the Don Mueang-Nakhon Phanom route, Thai Vietjet on Suvarnabhumi-Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Thai AirAsia on Suvarnabhumi to Nakhon Si Thammarat, Buriram, and Narathiwat routes. These measures will be reapplied, and international route promotions are also under consideration.

The meeting also recommended increasing facilities and reducing costs to stimulate more travel from both Thai and foreign tourists, while discussing relief measures from Middle East conflict impacts. Airports of Thailand will initially offer a 50% discount on aircraft parking and landing fees for airlines at its airports for six months, effective June 1 through November 30, 2025.

Judicial Discipline Committee Punishes Three Judges: One Dismissed, One Removed from Promotion List, One Stripped of Seniority Status

The Judicial Discipline Committee dismissed two judges for serious misconduct including fraud and unauthorized legal arrangements, while waiving punishment for a retired officer who improperly advised a litigation party.

19 May Khaosod

On May 19, 2569 (2026), the Judicial Discipline Committee held its 13th meeting at the Justice Courts Building in Bangkok, chaired by Supreme Court President Adisak Tantiwongse. The committee considered and resolved several disciplinary matters:

1. A judicial officer was found to have provided case advice to another party who was involved in the same litigation—conduct deemed damaging to judicial integrity and violating civil service protocol. While classified as minor misconduct warranting a three-year suspension of promotion or salary increase, punishment was waived because the officer had already left the position upon reaching mandatory retirement age under the Judicial Civil Service Act B.E. 2543, Section 75.

2. A judicial officer was accused of failing to perform overtime duties for warrant issuances while fraudulently signing attendance records and accepting overtime compensation—constituting serious disciplinary violations. The committee voted for dismissal. Reports indicate the judge, who held a provincial court chief position in a Southern island province, had allegedly shirked assigned duties for an extended period before this ruling.

3. A former judicial officer was found guilty of serious misconduct for arranging lawyers for defendants and collecting case processing fees from plaintiffs, undermining public confidence in judicial integrity. The committee voted for dismissal. The officer previously served as a department head at a lower court in the Northeast region and had been suspended for several years before today's ruling.

19 May Khaosod

5-Star Pig Farm with Air Conditioning and Swimming Pool Goes Viral with Nighttime Light Shows and Party Vibes

A Chinese content creator has built a viral luxury pig farm in Jiangxi Province featuring air-conditioned pens, individual swimming pools, and nighttime light shows, investing 300,000 yuan to create what he calls the world's most luxurious

19 May Khaosod

A luxury pig farm has gone viral online after videos emerged showing pig pens decorated like upscale hotel suites or villas, leaving netizens stunned and questioning whether the footage was AI-generated. The pens feature elegant interior design with decorative lighting around the enclosures, air conditioning units, and each pig has its own private swimming pool. At night, the farm illuminates with flashing lights and plays music to create a festive atmosphere.

The farm is actually real and operates in Jiangxi Province, owned by content creator Ju Ta Piao, who has over 1.1 million followers and regularly posts comedic content on Douyin. In early May, he unveiled this "5-star" pig farm, completely renovating the pens with an investment of approximately 300,000 yuan (over 1.4 million baht) to create what resembles a small hotel for pigs. Beyond the luxurious accommodations, the pigs receive excellent care including quality food, fresh fruit, and regular baths. The farm owner deliberately creates viral content with attention-grabbing captions such as "the world's most luxurious pig pen" or "pigs living better than people" to maximize viewership.

The creator stated he takes pig farming seriously and aims to generate income and build a reputation through this business via content creation. While many view it as a novel idea, critics argue that such decorative designs may not be practical for long-term pig farming, as fully grown pigs could easily damage decorations and complicate sanitation and health control efforts on the farm.

Tone Bangkhae Files Complaint with PM Requesting Investigation into Deputy Police Chief Over Defamation Claims

Content creator Tone Bangkhae filed a complaint with the Prime Minister requesting an investigation into Deputy Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Charuneekiat Pankaew for alleged defamatory media statements that he claims have damaged his reputat

19 May Khaosod

On May 19, 2025, Thontong Sukkaeng, known as "Tone Bangkhae," along with Panya Kraiphakdikun ("Hum Nakhon Pathom") and Jen Piyathat, traveled to the Government Complaint Center to file a petition for justice with the Prime Minister in his capacity as chairman of the Police Commission. They requested an investigation into Deputy Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Charuneekiat Pankaew.

Tone stated that he had previously filed a formal complaint through proper channels. However, Pol. Maj. Gen. Charuneekiat, a high-ranking police officer, subsequently gave interviews to media and appeared on various programs, which Tone views as adversarial public statements. Tone claimed that these statements could influence public perception and cause him harm, such as being labeled a "crook" or criminal, potentially damaging his reputation and honest livelihood.

"I have genuinely been affected by this, and there are no formal charges against me yet. But when such communications occur, it may cause society to prejudge," Tone stated.

Tone further requested that the Prime Minister, as overseer of the Royal Thai Police, investigate whether the officer's interviews and statements were appropriate, as government officials should perform their duties neutrally without affecting innocent people who have not been convicted.

Meanwhile, Panya ("Hum Nakhon Pathom") filed a complaint regarding serious physical assault and brain injuries he suffered since early 2568 (2025), claiming it is related to loan disputes involving the same creditor group as Tone Bangkhae.

Jen also submitted a petition to the Prime Minister requesting investigation into a check case worth 65 million baht currently under litigation, involving disputes with the same party group as Tone Bangkhae. He expressed concerns about potential investigation irregularities and stated that he fears harassment, as he plans to apply for the position of director of the Sports Authority of Thailand in September 2569 (2026).

Deputy Secretary to the Prime Minister Nopphon Boongaew received the documents and stated they would be forwarded to the Prime Minister for consideration according to proper procedures.

Young Navy Sailor Duped and Left Broke After Meeting Woman Through Popular Dating App

A 23-year-old Navy sailor was abandoned and left penniless in Chachoengsao after meeting a woman through Instagram who promised to withdraw cash and never returned. The petty officer had traveled to meet her after just three days of online

19 May Khaosod

At 10 a.m. on May 19, 2025, local residents reported that a young naval officer sought help after being scammed and abandoned with no money to return to his Bangkok base. The 23-year-old sailor, identified as Petty Officer A, had connected with a woman identified as Ms. N through Instagram just three days prior. She messaged him proposing a meetup in Chachoengsao and claimed she would pay for a ride-sharing service. They met around 11 p.m. on May 18 near a roadside pavilion at the Bypass intersection in Panasnikhom, Na Pla subdistrict, Muang district, Chachoengsao province. When she suggested going out, he told her he had no money, saying he only brought "his body and heart." She then asked him to wait while she went to withdraw cash from an ATM on her motorcycle—and never returned. After waiting until dawn with no sign of her, the sailor realized he'd been duped and approached nearby residents for help. A good Samaritan assisted him by purchasing a minivan ticket at the Chalom Thai intersection and providing travel money back to Bangkok. The sailor issued a warning to other young men not to trust beautiful women online, as they may face similar situations.

Sodor Style Apologizes for Post Questioning Sexual Assault Claims, Faces Heavy Backlash; Denies Victim-Blaming

Sodor Style has apologized for a controversial post questioning sexual assault claims, expressing remorse for insensitive wording and pledging to become an advocate for survivors and harassment awareness.

19 May Khaosod

Sodor Style, whose real name is Pimlada Wawtaisong, has issued a public apology after posting controversial questions about sexual assault that triggered heavy criticism online. Her original post had questioned certain aspects of assault cases in a way many found insensitive and inappropriate.

In her apology, Sodor Style expressed genuine remorse, saying: "I sincerely apologize for the previous post. When I posted it, I didn't think carefully enough and didn't realize how much my words could hurt so many people's feelings."

She continued: "After reading news related to this topic recently and reviewing my own post, I realized it wasn't what I actually intended to communicate. I felt terrible because it's a sensitive subject that shouldn't be discussed for any reason whatsoever."

Sodor Style emphasized her support for survivors, stating: "Especially to those who have had experiences with such terrible situations, I'm sorry for making you feel worse or uncomfortable. I now understand that some words, even without bad intentions, can genuinely hurt others' feelings."

She also mentioned consulting with a friend knowledgeable about law and who had personal experience with such trauma, gaining deeper understanding of the psychological impact and emotional scars survivors endure. "I have no excuses," she said, noting she has already deleted the problematic post.

Sodor Style reaffirmed her commitment to supporting survivors and pledged to become an advocate for sexual harassment awareness: "I'm willing to be a voice about Sexual Harassment and will study this more thoroughly. I will stand by all who have been harmed. Thank you to everyone who reminded me and made me reflect on myself again. I sincerely apologize and hope to prove through my actions that I have learned from this mistake."

In a follow-up post, Sodor Style clarified her position by sharing a previous supportive post she made about Tray Scott five days earlier, emphasizing: "Why try to find fault? Check the date of the post—I shared it five days ago to show whose side I've been on. What reason would someone like me have to victim-blame?"
