Thailand's U18 women's volleyball team won third place at the AVC Girls' U18 Volleyball Championship 2026 after overcoming Japan with a dramatic 3-2 set victory following an initial loss in the first set. The tournament, held at Terminal 21 Korat, featured the top four Asian teams vying for qualifying spots to the U19 World Championship next year.

On July 7, 2026, in the championship's final day, Thailand faced Japan in the third-place match after both teams had lost their previous games—Thailand to South Korea in the semifinals, and Japan to China. The match proved intensely competitive, with Thailand losing the opening set before mounting a comeback. Thailand ultimately prevailed 3-2 with set scores of 14-25, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12, securing third place in Asia for the first time since 2018.

This marks Thailand's fifth third-place finish at this championship level, following previous wins in 2003, 2008, 2010, and 2018.

Thai Railways Launches Search For Disabled Cat Missing Eight Days

Thai State Railway is searching for Somchai, a disabled orange cat that disappeared from a train traveling between Yala and Bangkok on June 28-29, likely going missing near Chumphon province.

Thai Railways Launches Search For Disabled Cat Missing Eight Days
2h ago Khaosod

Thai State Railway is intensifying efforts to find Somchai, an orange cat with hind leg paralysis belonging to a passenger, which disappeared eight days after traveling on express train No. 170 (Yala-Bangkok Central Station). The cat went missing between the Yala station departure on June 28 at 4:30 p.m. and arrival at Bangkok Central Station on June 29 at 10:40 a.m.

Methaphat Sunthorvaraphats, director of Thai State Railway's public relations center, stated that the railway deeply sympathizes with the owner's feelings and has ordered all related units to conduct an all-out search while investigating all circumstances in detail.

Initial investigations revealed that the passenger originally booked a fan-cooled standard cabin on the second floor, but due to equipment failure, was moved to an air-conditioned sleeper cabin where pets are not permitted under regulations. Staff advised and facilitated placing the cat in the baggage compartment, where the passenger personally handed over the animal and periodically visited to provide food and water throughout the journey. The cat had limited mobility in both hind legs.

When the train approached Lam Sai station in Chumphon province, staff discovered the cat was no longer in the baggage compartment and immediately notified the passenger. A preliminary search of all baggage areas was conducted but yielded no results.

The railway has escalated search operations through multiple measures: • CCTV Review: Station staff from Lam Sai to Chumphon are reviewing security footage to identify leads • Ground Search: Engineering teams deployed light rail vehicles to conduct detailed searches of grassland and trackside areas • Community Network: Notices posted around stations with coordination from local leaders and government agencies to aid observation

The railway apologizes for the incident and commits to continuing the search comprehensively while gathering evidence and interviewing all relevant staff to improve future transport safety measures.

Anyone spotting a cat matching this description or having information from the Lam Sai to Chumphon area can contact the Customer Service Center at 1690 (24 hours) or contact the Thai State Railway PR Team Facebook page.

Content Creator Tu Shares Modern Parenting Philosophy
2h ago Khaosod

Content creator Tu Phophot opens up about his modern parenting style on MY DADDY James, explaining his approach that avoids physical punishment and screen-based childcare while instilling discipline and responsibility. He stresses that a parent's role is not to force children to be smart, but to equip them with tools for living so they grow with quality and happiness in their own way.

When asked if his social media persona matches real life, Tu admits it's challenging. "When I play with them, I play fully so my daughter knows my main job is playing—it seems easy, but it's actually tiring," he says. With heavy work commitments, he can't always supervise like his wife does. His younger child loves crafts while his older one prefers action activities like swinging or biking. "They have completely different interests. The challenge isn't about playing, but how I can divide myself to play with both."

The children sometimes play together, though they often diverge to separate activities. Tu notes that he and his wife take different parenting modes—he focuses on serious matters and important lessons, while she handles daily discipline like brushing teeth. When addressing misbehavior, Tu waits for the right moment rather than scolding immediately. "If I scold right away, they become resistant. They get more afraid than willing to listen. I teach them when they've calmed down, and the best time is before bed when we talk together."

Their responses to discipline differ. His older daughter once brought candy to show her mother, wanting to eat it despite her loose tooth. Tu's tone may have seemed harsh when he discouraged her, upsetting her. He clarified he thought she wanted to eat it immediately, and she apologized, explaining she just wanted to show her mother. His younger son finds cleanup exhausting compared to playtime. Tu tries to make chores fun rather than punishing, though he admits it's frustrating when they don't comply. "There's disappointment in trying not to scold or hit, but when they don't listen after being asked, sometimes I think, 'never mind, I'll clean it myself.' But I know that won't work—if I let it slide now, it'll happen again next time." His older child pushes back more than the younger one.

On July 7, 2025, Prime Minister Anuthim Charnvirakul and Interior Minister addressed a proposal by Wanmuhammadnor Matha, the PM's senior advisor, to dissolve the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) during a special parliamentary budget committee meeting for fiscal year 2570. The advisor cited redundant operations and highlighted a controversial shooting incident involving a member of parliament. When asked his position, the PM simply told reporters to ask Wanmuhammadnor directly. He later clarified he had not yet spoken with his advisor on the matter. The PM defended the agency's necessity, emphasizing that ISOC has operated alongside the nation for many years and cannot simply be disbanded. He downplayed concerns about tension, noting that Wanmuhammadnor will accompany him on an upcoming Malaysia visit and travels with him to border provinces in southern Thailand. When pressed on whether the proposal had been discussed, the PM dismissed the possibility of dissolving an institution that has served Thailand for decades.

Mystery Metal Sphere Found on Australian Beach Is Rocket Debris

Metal spheres discovered on an Australian beach have been identified as pressurized fuel tanks from a rocket, with authorities warning the public to avoid touching similar debris as space launches increase worldwide.

Mystery Metal Sphere Found on Australian Beach Is Rocket Debris
2h ago Khaosod

Mystery metal spheres scattered across a Queensland beach in Australia have been identified by the Australian Space Agency as "space balls"—pressurized tanks that are components of spacecraft launch vehicles. The objects were discovered at Forrest Beach near Ingham over the weekend, initially prompting Queensland Fire and Rescue to declare them potentially hazardous and cordoning off the area with hazmat teams.

After investigation, authorities confirmed the objects match the description of pressure vessels used in rocket fuel systems. The location and characteristics of the debris align with recently fallen foreign rocket debris that recently re-entered Earth's orbit. Authorities are coordinating with international organizations to confirm the source and have warned the public to avoid touching, moving, or collecting suspicious objects. Anyone finding similar items should retreat and immediately contact emergency services.

Alice Gorman, a space debris expert from Flinders University, explained that "space balls" are pressurized tanks designed to store liquid fuel under high pressure in rockets and spacecraft. Made from specially hardened materials, they can withstand extreme heat and survive atmospheric re-entry. She theorizes these tanks likely fell into the ocean first before being washed ashore by currents and waves. Experts warn such incidents will likely increase as global rocket launches rise, generating more space debris that could fall to Earth and wash up on shores worldwide.

Constitutional Court To Rule On 400 Billion Baht Emergency Decree
2h ago Khaosod

July 9 represents another fateful day for Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's government, as the Constitutional Court is scheduled to rule on the 400 billion baht emergency borrowing decree challenged by the opposition for constitutional compliance. Though legally framed, the verdict carries substantial political consequences, potentially impacting government stability, economic confidence, and the future exercise of executive power. The central dispute concerns 200 billion baht designated for energy transition, which the opposition contends fails to meet the constitutional standard of "urgent necessity" under Articles 172 and 173, since it does not constitute an emergency beyond parliament's deliberation capacity. Reviewing past court rulings reveals the court considers not only the borrowing's purpose but heavily weighs the crisis conditions at the time. For instance, the 350 billion baht decree following the 2011 massive floods and the 1.5 trillion baht decree during COVID-19 were both approved as constitutional because they addressed severe national impacts requiring emergency powers. However, the 2 trillion baht infrastructure development program in 2014 was ruled unconstitutional for failing to meet urgent necessity criteria. This case ultimately presents two outcomes: if the court deems the decree constitutional, the government may proceed with borrowing and potentially adjust details based on court observations; if ruled unconstitutional, the decree becomes void from its inception. Beyond economic repercussions, the Anutin government faces political pressure. While the law does not mandate the prime minister's resignation or parliament dissolution, questions of political accountability will inevitably arise.

Eye Experts Warn Against Contact Lenses on Flights
2h ago Khaosod

Eye care specialists are warning contact lens wearers, particularly on long-haul flights, of significant risks including dry eyes and serious infections. Ophthalmologists caution those wearing contact lenses during air travel, especially on long-distance flights, because cabin air is dry with lower oxygen levels than normal, which can cause dry eyes, irritation, and increased risk of eye infections.

On long-haul flights such as intercontinental travel, the dry cabin conditions can cause both eyes and lenses to lose moisture, resulting in discomfort, a foreign body sensation, redness, irritation, or eye pain. Cabin pressure adjustments further reduce oxygen supply to the eyes, and when combined with dryness, may increase the risk of microscopic corneal abrasions or cause lenses to stick to the eye surface, potentially leading to infection—especially in crowded enclosed spaces with many passengers.

Experts note that if these conditions are severe and go untreated, they can cause temporary vision impairment and, in rare cases, permanent vision loss. Dr. Arjun Hura, a corneal and anterior segment surgeon from the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute, recommends not sleeping while wearing contact lenses on planes due to significantly increased infection risk. Those with existing red eyes, irritation, light sensitivity, or existing eye infections should wear eyeglasses instead.

For travelers who must wear contact lenses during flights, experts recommend maintaining clean hands before touching lenses, using approved contact lens solution, replacing solution with fresh solution each time, using clean cases, and avoiding rinsing lenses with tap water to reduce infection risk. Additionally, apply artificial tears when experiencing dry eyes, replace contacts with fresh pairs when necessary, or temporarily discontinue wear if unusual symptoms appear to prevent serious eye health complications.

Short-haul flights are safer—avoid sleeping on the plane.

Wearing contact lenses on flights is acceptable for short to medium-haul flights if passengers have healthy eyes and do not plan to sleep during the flight.

Parliament Pushes to Resolve Decades-Long Land Dispute

Deputy Police Colonel Thavee Sodsong, a Phak Prachaachat list MP and chair of a special committee reviewing an amnesty bill for people affected by state land and natural resource policies, joined Rangsimant Rom, also a Phak Prachaachat list MP and chair of the legal affairs and human rights committee, in hearing concerns about overlapping land disputes at Thap Lan National Park in Wang Nam Khiao district, Nakhon Ratchasima. The committee is collecting facts and examining legal solutions to resolve a decades-long land dispute and ensure fairness for affected residents, particularly regarding the park's boundary revision to address overlaps on land where people settled before the park was established in 1981. Thap Lan was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005 as part of the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, encompassing nearly 1.4 million rai across five districts in Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces, though approximately 260,000 rai overlap with residential and agricultural land. A March 14, 2566 cabinet resolution approved boundary adjustments affecting over 150,000 rai to resolve overlapping areas, with about 30,000 residents at risk of losing their homes and farmland without resolution. The government, led by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchati Chomklin, is proceeding with boundary revisions while verifying land rights for over 5,000 residents, balancing conservation with allocating farmland and strictly enforcing laws against violators. Meanwhile, parliamentary committees are studying facts and hearing from stakeholders to find legal remedies, with an amnesty bill for people affected by forestry and land cases awaiting consideration in parliament, hoping that both boundary revisions and amnesty provisions will move forward to resolve these long-standing disputes.

Massage Business Owner Denies Profits, Refutes Illicit Services
2h ago Khaosod

Entrepreneur Ton Hom Sakuntalah addressed rumors about her foot massage business at the Thaimart marketplace platform launch event, clarifying that despite nearly 10 million baht in investment, the shop has not yet returned a profit. She explained her hands-on approach of personally washing customers' feet, emphasizing the business operates as a legitimate massage establishment with no illicit services. Ton Hom responded to beauty queen Bai Fern Patskon's announcement of stepping down as Ubon Ratchathani's Miss Universe PD representative, requesting that Bai Fern provide her own explanation while reaffirming her support for all contestants, especially contestant 'Rot Mel.' Regarding public perception that the business is highly profitable, Ton Hom stated it remains in a low season and is still in the investment phase, with recovery expected to take 2-3 years. She attributed generous staff compensation to the startup phase rather than profits. She highlighted her genuine passion for foot massage service, explaining that customer satisfaction brings fulfillment money cannot buy. Currently, the main challenge is finding reliable massage therapists, as experienced staff frequently leave. She acknowledged initial age restrictions on therapists due to the five-story building, but learned that expertise requires more experienced practitioners. She called for clearer communication with staff about resignation timelines to allow adequate replacement time.

Iran Celebrates USA's World Cup Elimination
2h ago Khaosod

Iran's national football team has taken a satisfying revenge after the United States was knocked out in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The entire world is celebrating the humiliating defeat of the USA, the tournament host that had performed well from the start, who has suddenly become football's villain. The controversy escalated after FIFA agreed to change the red card punishment for Florian Balogun to a one-year suspension instead of an immediate ban as is customary. The situation became even more heated when the global football community learned that US President Donald Trump was behind this controversial decision, having called FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request a review of the US team's Round of 16 match. The USA, which did everything off the pitch to secure victory, was defeated 1-4 by Belgium, despite having a top striker who received special privileges to play in this game.

Now it is Iran's turn to settle the score with the United States decisively. Iran's Football Federation posted: "The whole world is dancing in celebration." This echoes back to when US Secretary of Defense Mark Wahlberg mocked Iran, saying he almost sang and danced when Iran was eliminated in the first round.

"Now the entire world is dancing to celebrate the shameful defeat of 'politics' against 'football'," the Iran Football Federation stated through its representative.

Earlier, Iran had already responded, saying: "Iranians are accustomed to unfair treatment and lies from US officials. Therefore, no one in Iran is surprised by these malicious remarks. These words show once again that US officials have no commitment to international law or the principles expected of a host nation capable of organizing a world-class sporting competition. Their overt celebration of Iran's elimination says much more about them than about our team. It reflects a pettiness that is unacceptable, even to the existence of a single football team participating in the world's greatest sporting arena. After our match against New Zealand, our head coach said that the US does not want Iran to continue in this tournament because our team faces inhumane and unprofessional treatment. These recent comments only serve to reinforce that belief."
