On July 6, Air Force Commander General Prabhas Saundjai, director of the Thai-Cambodian Situation Information Center (JIC), responded to criticism that soldiers deployed along the border lack adequate bunkers and protective shelters, which has reportedly affected troop morale and raised safety concerns. The military acknowledged public concern for frontline troops and stated that all commanders prioritize soldier safety, welfare, and morale above all else.

General Prabhas said the preparation of protective structures, defensive measures, and strengthening of operational bases are being conducted continuously based on urgency and terrain conditions, with ongoing situation assessments and improvements to personnel, equipment, and base defense systems. "Commanders are not complacent—troop safety is paramount," he stated.

The JIC director said frontline forces continue performing their duties with strength, discipline, and commitment to protecting national sovereignty, while commanders are actively visiting the field, listening to problems, and urgently providing necessary support. General Prabhas noted that details regarding bunker placement, protective measures, and area security are classified as operational information that the military must withhold to avoid compromising national security and soldier safety. The military requested public cooperation in refraining from sharing tactical information that could impact field operations.

The military thanked the public for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to fully caring for troops so they can effectively and safely fulfill their mission to protect the nation's sovereignty.

Coral Bleaching Threatens Surin Islands as Ocean Temperatures Soar
3h ago Khaosod

The director of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Arthapol Jaruenchansaa, addressed the coral situation in Surin Islands National Park in Phang Nga Province, stating that corals are now displaying bleaching signals with extensive discoloration, particularly among staghorn coral species. This marks an unusual occurrence compared to previous years, linked to rising sea temperatures.

Authorities have ordered continuous monitoring during the current tourism closure period, which allows the coral and marine ecosystems to recover without visitor interference. However, if the coral has not recovered by the scheduled reopening, the park may remain closed longer than planned.

Athit Khayunkij, head of Surin Islands National Park, reported that the most recent survey on June 26 found several coral areas showing bleaching damage from abnormally high water temperatures, ranging from 30-31 degrees Celsius—above normal levels for the season.

Bleaching was detected across multiple coral species and locations at varying severity levels. Suet Bay showed 50% bleaching and discoloration, Phak Kad Bay 30%, Turtle Bay 10%, Mae Yai Bay 10%, and Laem Chong Khad 10%. The park director revealed that staghorn coral (Acropora spp.), cabbage coral (Pocillopora spp.), porites coral (Porites rus), and porites coral (Porites lutea) were all affected.

Official surveys will now occur every 15 days to track recovery progress. Temperature monitoring equipment and NOAA Coral Reef Watch data will inform decisions going forward. The park experienced devastating bleaching in 2010, taking approximately 13 years to recover.

When tourism reopens on October 15, 2026, stricter regulations may be implemented. If bleaching exceeds 40%, diving activities in at-risk areas will be restricted, anchoring on coral prohibited, visitor numbers controlled, and additional stressful activities limited. Severely affected areas may be closed entirely to allow coral recovery.

Concert Tickets Sell Out Faster Than Expected For Ti-Ti and Po
3h ago Khaosod

The "DUANG GO ROUND CONCERT Presented by True5G," based on the series "Duang With You," has generated unprecedented momentum with tickets selling out remarkably fast and its concert hashtag reaching number one on global trends. On July 5th, lead actors Ti-Ti Wanpichit and Po Suphakarn appeared at the "CLEAR NOSE TOWN" event at Siam Paragon to discuss their feelings about the rapid ticket sales.

Both actors admitted the response exceeded their expectations and thanked fans for their support. While they acknowledged feeling pressure to deliver the best possible performance, they emphasized their commitment to creating an outstanding show. They have actively participated in song selection and concert design, and both view this as their first step in the entertainment industry, with plans to develop their skills further.

When asked if they expected the concert to sell out so quickly, Ti-Ti said he thought it would take longer, while Po noted it happened faster than anticipated. Both have been praying for success since before receiving the green light for the concert.

Regarding the global trend-topping hashtag, Po expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support from fans, saying it opened their eyes to the power of fan devotion. When asked about the pressure they feel, Po acknowledged having internal pressure to ensure every aspect of the show is excellent and gives fans good value. Ti-Ti similarly admitted feeling pressure but said it would be enjoyable and they would strive for the best performance.

For the concert preparation, Ti-Ti explained that since it's based on "Duang," that essence will be present, but they'll add their own "Ti-Po" element through participation in song selection and design meetings. The songs have already been chosen, and both actors remain tight-lipped about guest appearances and duet segments, asking fans to stay tuned.

When asked if they consider themselves successful in the entertainment industry yet, Po said he believes they're just beginning—albeit with a remarkably impressive start. He noted there's room for improvement in singing, dancing, communication, and all other skills. Ti-Ti called this their first step.

Asked about Po's improvement, Ti-Ti acknowledged Po was already skilled but has grown even better in performance and creative thinking. When questioned about adjustments between them, Ti-Ti revealed they've required minimal fine-tuning due to their quite different personalities, which actually works well. He noted that while he talks a lot and Po speaks less, they don't criticize each other's tendencies, creating a harmonious dynamic.

Thai Police Warn Travelers Against Cannabis Smuggling

Thai Police Warn Travelers Against Cannabis Smuggling
3h ago Khaosod

BANGKOK — 6 July 2026, Thai police have warned both Thai and foreign travellers against smuggling cannabis overseas, saying offenders could face severe penalties, including imprisonment in Thailand and even harsher punishment abroad.

Police issued the warning on Monday following a series of recent international drug trafficking cases involving cannabis allegedly smuggled from Thailand.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaturaphat Phiromkaew, Commander of the Foreign Affairs Division and Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, cited three recent cases:

• Hong Kong customs officers seized about 23 kilograms of dried cannabis and arrested two suspects — a Chinese national and a Hong Kong resident — who had arrived from Thailand.

• Indonesia's National Narcotics Board (BNN) dismantled a cannabis trafficking network and seized 3.37 tonnes of high-grade cannabis allegedly originating from Thailand while pursuing Malaysian and Chinese suspects.

• Authorities in Poland seized 1.2 tonnes of cannabis concealed inside construction bricks in a shipping container exported from Thailand and arrested eight suspects.

Police warned both Thai and foreign nationals against carrying, smuggling, or accepting payment to transport cannabis, cannabis flower buds, or cannabis-containing products out of Thailand. Although cannabis has been partially decriminalised for certain medical purposes within Thailand, its export remains strictly regulated, and it remains illegal in many destination countries.

The Royal Thai Police outlined the relevant legal penalties:

• Customs Act B.E. 2560 (2017): Up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine of up to four times the value of the goods (including duty), or both.

• Protection and Promotion of Traditional Thai Medicine Knowledge Act B.E. 2542 (1999): Up to one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both.

• Ministry of Public Health Notification on Controlled Herbs (Cannabis) B.E. 2568 (2025): Up to one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both.

• Laws of destination countries: Cannabis remains classified as a narcotic in many jurisdictions, where smuggling offences may carry penalties ranging from lengthy prison terms to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

Police urged travellers to remain vigilant and avoid becoming unwittingly involved in transnational cannabis trafficking networks.

Authorities advised travellers never to accept luggage, parcels or other items from strangers, or even acquaintances, for transport abroad. If prohibited substances are found, the carrier may be held legally responsible for possession and smuggling offences. Travellers were also urged to thoroughly inspect their own luggage before departure to ensure it does not contain cannabis or cannabis-infused products, including herbal inhalers, tea, confectionery or cosmetics.

Police further advised against working as couriers transporting goods or luggage overseas on behalf of others, warning that travellers have no reliable way of knowing what they may be carrying.

O'asip Café: Sip Coffee Among Lush Gardens

O'asip Café: Sip Coffee Among Lush Gardens

O'asip café invites you to enjoy coffee while taking in a small garden in Soi Suan Phak 32, letting your mind relax as you experience nature and chat with friendly baristas.

This café in the Suan Phak neighborhood, discovered through Google Maps, serves genuinely delicious coffee. Upon entering, the serene atmosphere suits introverts or anyone seeking a quiet corner to work or read in peace.

But the real standout is the glass-walled view from the back overlooking a small pond and lush, refreshing garden.

While ordering drinks, we had the chance to chat with Art, the owner who also serves as a barista. He shared the delightfully creative origin of the café's name.

"The name O'asip comes from wordplay with 'Oasis.' You can see the small pond behind the café, so I combined the words to create Oasip, which means 'to sip,'" Art explained.

We sampled the medium-roast Americano—excellent flavor—and a Matcha Latte paired with the café's bestselling homemade cake.

"The coffee beans we use are mostly Thai beans, though we also carry imported varieties. Our primary bean is from Chiang Mai's Doi Samoeng, available in both medium and dark roasts. Our signature homemade bakery item is the Sweet Corn Crumber. What makes it special is the crumble itself—I believe it's unlike anywhere else—with the perfect balance of saltiness and sweet aroma.

Another favorite is the Basque Burnt Cheesecake. We intentionally keep the sweetness low so it's not cloying, and the price is fair and accessible to everyone."

If you're passing through Suan Phak and want quality coffee in a lush garden setting, this place is highly recommended.

Location: Soi Suan Phak 32, Achariya Prasit Road. Open daily: Mon-Wed & Fri 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (closes at 3:30 PM on Thursdays); Sat-Sun 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. Parking available behind the café.

Court Acquits Activist Tawan in Royal Motorcade Poll Case
3h ago Khaosod

A Thai court on Monday acquitted activist Tantawan Tuatulanon, known as Tawan, and six co-defendants of charges under Article 112, Thailand's royal defamation law, and Article 116, the sedition law, over a public opinion poll asking whether royal motorcades caused inconvenience.

The Thai Lawyers for Human Rights said the South Bangkok Criminal Court ruled that the poll, conducted at a shopping mall on 8 February 2022, merely posed the question, "Do you think royal motorcades cause inconvenience?" The court found that the wording did not refer to any specific individual or mention any member of the royal family by name, and therefore did not meet the legal elements required for an offense under Article 112, which criminalizes defaming, insulting or threatening the King, the Queen, the Heir-apparent or the Regent.

The seven defendants had also faced charges under Article 116, which prohibits acts deemed to incite unrest or public disorder, as well as offenses including insulting officials, obstructing officials in the performance of their duties and failing to comply with official orders.

In its ruling, the court said the defendants did not deliver speeches that defamed, insulted or threatened the King. It added that the symbolic three-finger salute by the first and second defendants constituted an expression of individual rights and freedoms, which others may agree or disagree with.

The court also found no evidence that the defendants' actions caused unrest, threatened national security or encouraged people to break the law, and therefore dismissed the charge under Article 116 as well.

A special exhibition highlighting Thailand's traditional national dress, Chud Thai, has opened at the National Museum of Korea, offering visitors a chance to explore the elegance of Thai fashion alongside the launch of the museum's Amazing Thailand: Masterpieces of Thai Art exhibition.

According to the museum, the display features a collection of Chud Thai costumes that showcase the harmony between Thailand's traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics. The exhibition aims to introduce Korean visitors to the cultural significance and artistic beauty of Thai attire, which has become one of the country's most recognisable cultural symbols.

The museum noted that Thailand's modern national dress was revitalised in the 1960s under the patronage of Queen Sirikit. The redesigned costumes have since come to represent Thai identity on the international stage and are frequently worn at official ceremonies and cultural events.

The Chud Thai exhibition is being held in the Grand Hall of the National Museum of Korea's permanent exhibition building from 22 June to 16 July, coinciding with the special exhibition Amazing Thailand: Masterpieces of Thai Art. Visitors are invited to experience the blend of traditional Thai elegance and modern design through the colourful display of royal-inspired attire.
