Former Police Hospital Chief Dr. Taveesil Wetchavitarn has formally resigned from government service and is preparing to fight back against a medical ethics case related to the 14th floor of the Police Hospital. On July 2, 2026, Dr. Taveesil arrived at the National Police Office in his private vehicle, accompanied by Police Spokesperson Pol. Capt. Sirikul Srisanga and other officers. He proceeded to the 20th floor operations center of the National Police Office to submit his formal resignation letter. Dr. Taveesil appeared composed and refused to answer any questions from the media.

Dr. Taveesil has appointed Kraisongthanakrit Jittarariratana, secretary to the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, as his lawyer. He is preparing to file civil and criminal lawsuits against all relevant agencies to seek justice. The medical ethics case involves the 14th floor of the Police Hospital. The Police Commissioner previously signed an order reassigning Dr. Taveesil to assist at the National Police Office's 20th floor operations center from October 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, which is believed to have prevented his appointment as deputy commissioner.

Archaeologists Begin Excavating Ancient Human Remains At Don Yai Thong

Archaeologists in Phetchaburi province have begun extracting ancient human skeletal remains from the Don Yai Thong site, with nine skeletons and bronze drums expected to be recovered over approximately one month due to deteriorating ground

4h ago Khaosod

On July 2, 2025, an archaeological team from the Fine Arts Department's Ratchaburi office, led by director Nipa Sangkanakindhorn, launched the extraction of ancient human skeletal remains from the Don Yai Thong archaeological site in Ban Don Phlap village, Samoe Phlum subdistrict, Ban Laad district, Phetchaburi province. The team includes archaeologists from the Prachuap Khiri Khan Fine Arts Department office, Silpakorn University's archaeology program, and former skeletal specialists from the Fine Arts Department.

Before beginning work, site owners Kanang Petchsud and Jen Petchsud performed traditional blessings and requested permission to remove the remains from the excavation pit. Director Nipa explained that this marks the first day of the formal extraction process, with support from retired skeletal expert Prapich Phongmasad and experienced archaeology instructors to guide the team's procedures.

The team planned two extraction methods: the first group covers skeletons numbered 1-4, which are layered on top of each other and will be removed in sections over approximately two weeks. The second group, skeletons 5-8, will be lifted as complete platforms using methods overseen by Fine Arts Department scientists to prevent damage, taking about one week. A ninth skeleton, believed to be a child, will also be lifted as a platform due to its fragile condition and the large metal vessel found within its remains.

Additional artifacts still in the pit, including four bronze drums, will be extracted simultaneously. The excavation must proceed due to ongoing ground moisture, saltwater infiltration, groundwater issues, and seasonal rainfall that compromise the skeletal remains and cause metal artifacts to corrode. The extraction phase is expected to take approximately one month, after which the pit will be formally closed. The department plans to display the recovered artifacts, including gold jewelry, glass beads, and colored stone beads discovered in previous work, before beginning comprehensive conservation and analysis.

Thailand Ranks Top Five Asia Pacific Destination

Thailand ranks among Asia Pacific's top five travel destinations, with regional visitors increasingly seeking authentic local experiences like food and culture, according to a new Visa study of over 47,000 travelers globally.

4h ago TAT Newsroom

Bangkok, 2 July 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) welcomes findings from Visa’s 2026 Global Travel Intentions study, which ranks Thailand among the top five destinations visited by Asia Pacific travellers, reflecting continued regional demand for familiar, accessible, and experience-rich destinations.

The study, conducted among more than 47,000 respondents worldwide, including over 17,000 in Asia Pacific markets, indicates that travellers in the region are becoming more intentional, placing greater emphasis on familiarity, practicality, flexibility, and confidence in planning.

According to the study, 63% of Asia-Pacific respondents travelled within the region, far ahead of other regions globally. Thailand ranked among the top five destinations visited by Asia Pacific travellers, alongside Japan, Australia, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said, “Visa’s findings support TAT’s quality-led tourism direction under The New Thailand vision, where Value over Volume guides the development of meaningful experiences, stronger visitor confidence, and wider benefits for local businesses and communities. They also align with ‘Healing is the New Luxury’, which presents Thailand through wellness, culture, nature, gastronomy, local connection, and experiences that support visitor well-being.”

Visa also reported that 37% of Asia Pacific respondents plan trips around unique local experiences, particularly food and culture, above the global average of 29%. This reinforces opportunities for Thailand to promote distinctive Thai experiences across established and emerging destinations, while encouraging visitor spending beyond major gateways.

The study further points to changes in travel planning behaviour. Nearly half of Asia Pacific respondents use AI tools to discover destinations and travel ideas, while many travellers check practical information before departure, including accommodation, insurance, visa requirements, local developments, payment security, and card acceptance.

Digital payments also remain central to travel confidence. Visa reported that 73% of Asia-Pacific travellers bring cards or mobile wallets on their trips, with payment security and card acceptance among their key considerations. This supports Thailand’s recent “Pay Like a Local” Cross-Border QR Payment readiness initiative, through which TAT is promoting QR payment convenience at attractions, shops, restaurants, and tourism establishments nationwide.

While travellers are planning more carefully, they continue to value flexibility at the destination. The study found that 79% booked accommodation in advance, while 51% booked experiences before travelling. Dining and transport decisions were largely made after arrival, reflecting opportunities for destinations and businesses to inspire spending during the trip.

TAT is applying its quality-led strategy through focused market communication, experience presentation, digital convenience, and stronger destination dispersal. These priorities support Thailand’s continued appeal to Asia Pacific travellers seeking trusted destinations, local experiences, flexible journeys, and seamless travel services.

The school welcomed her immediately, as it currently lacks physics teachers. "The negotiations concluded positively," said Minister Prasert. Additionally, Suan Dusit University has taken responsibility by providing 400,000 baht in compensation as encouragement, acknowledging the error and committing to system improvements."

The Basic Education Commission secretary-general expressed support and encouraged Teacher Nim to become an exemplary educator. Professor Sukhum Chaleytrap of Suan Dusit University confirmed the error was a technical administrative mistake with no fraud involved, and stated the university will review procedures to prevent recurrence.

Teacher Nim thanked all parties involved and expressed her intention to return to teaching and develop students in her hometown, while caring for her mother. She hopes her case will serve as a lesson for improving Thailand's teacher examination system.

Thai Prime Minister Anuthim Charnvirakul vowed to crack down on drug smuggling following the arrest of a Thai Airways hostess by Australian police on heroin charges, promising tighter security protocols and a government meeting tomorrow to

4h ago Khaosod

At 12:55 p.m. on July 2, 2569 at Government House, Prime Minister Anuthim Charnvirakul and Interior Minister addressed the case of a Thai Airways air hostess arrested by Australian police on heroin smuggling charges. He confirmed he had received a report and noted that the Secretary-General of the Narcotics Control Board would brief on the matter at 1:30 p.m. today, after which he would convene a meeting of relevant agencies tomorrow.

When asked about the impact on national confidence, the PM stated that drug trafficking is unacceptable and measures must be tightened further. He acknowledged current security relies heavily on metal detection, but noted that detailed baggage inspection presents logistical challenges. He emphasized that airline crew members fall under special jurisdiction, requiring additional protocols and regulations.

When asked about foreign detection technologies, the PM said he would inquire further with the Narcotics Control Board Secretary-General.

Regarding criticism that Thailand is a drug transit route, the PM firmly denied this, citing Thailand's extensive drug suppression and destruction efforts, as well as government support for detection equipment and X-ray machines. He stressed that if individuals choose to break the law, they must accept the consequences.

The PM noted that a hypothetical Thai Airways hostess returning to Thailand would face life imprisonment for possessing just 20-30 pills, with no amnesty possibility. He declared the government will continue enforcement operations and urged violators not to test Thailand's legal system.

Concerning tomorrow's major meeting involving Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, the Royal Thai Police, and the Civil Aviation Authority, the PM explained today's session would brief the Narcotics Control Board secretary-general on the agenda before finalizing the comprehensive meeting.

Regarding the meeting's objectives, the PM said it aims to "tighten and seal every loophole." He concluded his remarks on commercial air drug smuggling by stating: "It's very shortsighted. I don't understand why someone would think this way."

5h ago Khaosod

Agriculture Minister Suriya Chungrungreung announced that following successful negotiations between Thailand and Malaysia on controlling exports of five Thai shrimp species and importing Malaysian groupfish, Thailand is now proposing to open markets for beef and pork exports to Malaysia. Malaysia has responded positively and is prepared to approve these products once they meet sanitary standards and disease control requirements.

In exchange, Malaysia has requested permission to export chicken feet to Thailand. The Thai side views this as a fair trade exchange, noting that if both countries can implement sanitary standards correctly and efficiently, it will benefit both nations' agricultural exports. However, the standard inspection process must remain rigorous to meet both countries' food safety requirements. While the procedures are time-consuming and require careful attention, if both parties collaborate to accelerate the process, it will significantly speed up the expansion of agricultural trade between the two countries.
