Chief Sangha of Sri Lanka Presides Over King Ashoka Commemoration at Phu Phasai Buddhist Temple
Sri Lanka's Chief Sangha presided over a King Ashoka statue consecration at Phu Phasai Buddhist Temple in Nakhon Ratchasima, drawing Buddhists from multiple provinces for rituals honoring the ancient Buddhist ruler.
The Chief Sangha of Sri Lanka, Ven. Varagakodatha Sri Gnanaratna Mahathera from the Asgiriya Siam Branch, presided as religious leader over the King Ashoka statue consecration ceremony at Phu Phasai Buddhist Temple in Sung Noen District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The event was organized jointly by the temple's abbot, Ven. Mahathiranatha Akukathiro, and the Dhamma Army Foundation, led by attorney Ananchai Chaiyadeach.
Buddhists from multiple provinces attended the serene and spiritually-charged ceremony, dressed in white and ascending to the hilltop ritual grounds overlooking the prominent golden stupa. The ceremony featured graceful processions honoring King Ashoka accompanied by ceremonial music, followed by ritual offerings, incense lighting, and the chanting of sacred invocations by attorney Ananchai Chaiyadeach. Participants then scattered rice and flowers in reverence of the King Ashoka statue, blessing their lives and the nation.
The formal Buddhist blessing ceremony followed, with the Sri Lankan Chief Sangha and monks lighting sacred flames and performing traditional blessings and chanting. The melodious sounds of auspicious chants resonated throughout the grounds as Thai and Sri Lankan participants united in reverence and joy. Deputy Governor Kanasorn Sricharoen of Nakhon Ratchasima joined in the offerings, while the Chief Sangha blessed the site with ceremonial anointing and stone dedication. Thai monks presented traditional offerings to the Sri Lankan monastic delegation, and the Sri Lankan monks reciprocated with gifts, all amid an atmosphere of deep respect and gratitude from Thai devotees, government officials, renowned actress Aom Atchaya Chumsananun, and countless worshippers.
This historic ceremony at Phu Phasai Temple represents not only an important milestone for the temple but also reflects the profound faith of Buddhist practitioners and the deep bonds between Thai and Sri Lankan Buddhist communities working together to preserve and sustain Buddhism's beauty and strength for future generations.
