Drug Courier Questioned In Thai Airways Heroin Case
Thai authorities have interrogated a drug courier connected to a Thai Airways air hostess arrested in Australia for heroin smuggling, with investigators now focusing on identifying the drug supplier and communication networks involved.
Justice Minister Rutthapol Naorat announced on July 1, 2025, that authorities have scheduled an interrogation of the courier involved in the case of a Thai Airways air hostess arrested in Australia on drug smuggling charges. The courier appeared in custody and questioning was scheduled for 10:00 AM that day. Additional details about where the courier obtained the drugs require further questioning.
When asked about Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Phuangketkhiao's statement that Australian authorities found leads prompting the search, Rutthapol said Australian officials have not disclosed investigation details to Thailand. However, the secretary of the National Narcotics Control Board will meet with relevant agencies this afternoon to discuss the case.
Investigators are focusing on identifying who supplied the drugs, what communication channels were used, and tracing the initial supplier. The severity of penalties will depend on Australian courts, though Thailand is gathering evidence to share with Australian authorities.
When asked whether this represents an organized network, Rutthapol requested more details, noting that drug concealment methods such as hiding narcotics in blankets or quilts have been used before and have resulted in arrests in Thailand.
Regarding concerns about security lapses allowing drugs to leave Thailand, Rutthapol said multiple officials have issued clarifications and additional meetings are planned today to develop solutions.
Concerning the Facebook account "Rose" and TikTok account "Paeng," Rutthapol said the Narcotics Control Board should investigate as multiple factors need examination.
