Thailand Deploys Three New Cloud-Seeding Units

Thailand has deployed three new cloud-seeding units across Nakhon Sawan, Buriram, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces to combat drought and boost water supplies for crops ahead of expected dry spells in July and August.

14h ago Khaosod

Thailand has established three additional cloud-seeding operations in Nakhon Sawan, Buriram, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces to boost water supplies for agricultural areas facing drought concerns. Director Withaya Kaewmee of the Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation Department stated that since Thailand entered the monsoon season on May 15, overall rainfall has remained below normal. July and August are expected to see dry spells with below-average precipitation, creating risks of water shortages during the 2025 dry season across the country.

Most crops nationwide are in growth stages requiring adequate water. The Central Region has rice in seedling and tillering phases, sugarcane in tillering and stem extension, and cassava in canopy development. Northern rice is being prepared for planting, corn is in early planting to flowering stages. Eastern rice is in land preparation to seedling phases, cassava in canopy development. Northeast rice is in transplanting to seedling stages, sugarcane in stem extension. Southern rice is in seedling to tillering phases, cassava in root and growth development.

Reservoirs and dams require significant water replenishment, with usage at less than 30 percent capacity. The three new operations target: the Nakhon Sawan operation supporting rice-growing areas outside irrigation zones in Tha Tak, Phaisali, and Nong Bua districts, plus western and eastern agricultural zones; and combined Buriram-Ubon Ratchathani operations supporting rice areas in Sisaket Province's Wang Hin, Prang Ku, Phrai Bueng, Phyu, and Chaturphak Triphiman districts, plus Roi Et Province's Tung Kula Ronghai region.

Withaya emphasized that all cloud-seeding units must plan interventions before agricultural damage occurs, analyzing water requirements by crop type and weather conditions for maximum efficiency. The department has personnel, aircraft, equipment, and can adjust operations to suit conditions. Currently five operations are active in Tak, Nakhon Ratchasima, Sa Kaew, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Khon Kaen provinces. Yesterday's operations brought rain to agricultural areas across 16 provinces and replenished seven major dams and 13 smaller reservoirs. The public can follow updates on the department's Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages, or request services at eight nationwide cloud-seeding centers.

Power Poles Collapse, Block Traffic Near Wat U Taphao

Three power poles collapsed on a Bangkok soi near Wat U Taphao on June 30, blocking traffic and damaging seven parked vehicles, with the cause still under investigation despite clear weather conditions.

14h ago Khaosod

Three power poles collapsed and blocked a soi (side street) leading to Wat U Taphao off Soi Chalongkrung in Bangkok's Nong Chok district on June 30, 2024, at 1:15 PM. Police from Lam Phak Chi Station coordinated with the Provincial Electricity Authority to investigate. Seven vehicles parked at a nearby auto repair shop sustained damage, though no injuries occurred. The collapse completely blocked traffic in the alley, forcing police to close the route entirely. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area. The Electricity Authority estimated power restoration by 10 PM to midnight. The cause remains under investigation, as weather conditions were clear with no wind or rain—unusual circumstances for such a structural failure. This incident follows a similar power pole collapse on June 26 in the Lat Krabang area that caused vehicle damage and injuries.

Thailand's final BMX national championship will crown 2025 champions on July 3-4 at Kamalasai Sports Park in Bangkok, with winners earning royal trophies and spots for the 2027 Asian Balance Bike Championship.

14h ago Khaosod

Thailand's final BMX national championship will crown the 2025 champions in a fierce competition. General Decha Hemkrasaree, vice president of the Asian Cycling Confederation and president of the Thailand Cycling Association, announced that the fifth and final round of the BMX National Championship will be held July 3-4, with the children's balance bike championship on July 5 at Kamalasai Sports Park in Bangkok's Nong Chok district.

General Decha stated that the final round is expected to draw large numbers of competitors, as it will determine which athletes in each category will claim the national championship and royal trophy—a lifetime honor for both competitors and their families. The balance bike championship is also expected to attract many parents and children, as points accumulated across rounds will determine the national champions and help select representatives for Thailand's participation in the 2027 Asian Balance Bike Championship.

General Decha added that Thailand is well-positioned to host the Asian cycling championship again in 2027, pending approval from the ACC Congress 2027 in China. Thailand's accessibility, diverse accommodation options, and varied cuisine make it an ideal host.

BMX athletes can train on Thursday, July 2, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a team managers' meeting at 3:30 PM. Balance bike competition details will be announced on Friday, July 3, at noon via the Thailand Cycling Association's Facebook page. BAAC launches the 17th Omsin Youth Sports Festival offering 4.6 million baht in prizes for Thai athletes aged 18 and under competing in football, basketball, and volleyball across six regional qualifying rounds before nationals in November.

14h ago Khaosod

The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) has officially launched the Omsin Youth Sports Festival 2026, the 17th season, creating opportunities for Thai youth athletes. The tournament offers over 4.6 million baht in prize money to identify outstanding athletes aged 18 and under from member schools nationwide.

This year's competition features three popular sports: men's football, men's basketball, and women's volleyball. Regional qualifying rounds are held across six locations—Bangkok, Songkhla, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, and Chiang Rai—to select champions and runners-up from each venue. The top 12 teams will advance to the national championship in Bangkok in November.

Beyond competition, the program develops youth holistically through discipline, responsibility, self-management, sports science learning, and pathways to education or professional sports careers. It reinforces the school banking program's role in sustainable youth development.

The first regional round took place June 22-26, 2026 in Bangkok, with six teams qualifying for nationals:

Men's Basketball (U18): Champion—Assumption Thonburi School; Runner-up—Satri Witaya 2 School

Women's Volleyball (U18): Champion—Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School; Runner-up—Wichitwitya School

Men's Football (U18): Champion—Rajwinitwongkul Bangkhen School; Runner-up—Wichitwitya School

Competition continues in Songkhla July 6-10, 2026, where six more teams will earn national tournament berths. The BAAC believes the festival will inspire Thai youth and open pathways to success in sports, academics, and life. Fans can follow results on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube at Omsin Youth Sports Festival.

Flight Attendant Targeted By Same Smuggling Account as Arrested Colleague

A Thai flight attendant narrowly avoided a smuggling trap after ignoring a suspicious TikTok recruiter who later targeted a colleague now arrested for drug trafficking to Australia.

14h ago Khaosod

On June 30, 2569, flight attendant Boom disclosed that she had been contacted by a suspicious TikTok profile called "Paeng" asking her to courier items to Australia—matching the account used to ensnare another flight attendant now under arrest.

Boom recounted that on June 10, an unfamiliar TikTok profile messaged asking if she would accept smuggling work to Australia. She noticed the profile had no face photo and vague biographical information, so she ignored the request.

After hearing news of the drug smuggling scheme involving a flight attendant, Boom posted on TikTok about her similar experience. Colleagues from her airline and others subsequently contacted her, reporting they had encountered the same profile with identical recruitment tactics. One colleague confirmed being contacted on June 22—the same day the suspect delivered items to the arrested flight attendant—all with the same courier inquiry approach.

After learning this, Boom blocked the account. When she checked again through a friend, the profile had changed its picture and username before eventually closing. Boom said she felt shocked by the discovery. She speculated that anyone who actually carried the luggage might not have known it contained drugs, seeing it merely as a bag. However, airline regulations strictly prohibit flight attendants from accepting items from others as a security measure, and this rule absolutely forbids allowing others to touch their luggage.

Boom noted that most flight attendants rarely accept courier work anymore because criminal schemes have become more sophisticated and frightening. Everyone is cautious, and Australia has particularly strict inspection protocols.

When asked if her airline had issued special warnings, Boom emphasized that airlines already prohibit accepting any items, yet some crew members still do for supplementary income—typically food, personal items, or clothing at 300 baht per kilogram, with individuals able to carry up to approximately 32 kilograms maximum.

Woman Clarifies Defamation Case, Not Assault Charge

A woman who sued a YouTuber with 10 million followers clarified her case involves defamation, not assault, after the content creator misrepresented the dismissal as evidence-related rather than through successful mediation.

14h ago Khaosod

A woman who previously sued a prominent YouTuber with over 10 million followers has clarified that her case involves defamation, not physical assault. She expressed concern about public misunderstanding after the YouTuber claimed the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Ms. Paeng (a pseudonym), who filed the defamation suit against the YouTuber, explained that she initially paid little attention to the controversy. However, when the YouTuber publicly stated that an assault case against her had been dismissed due to insufficient evidence, she felt compelled to speak out, fearing the public would misunderstand her actual case.

Ms. Paeng clarified that her lawsuit was solely for defamation, not assault. The case concluded on June 30, 2566, through successful mediation between both parties. As settlement conditions, the defendant agreed to post a pinned message on their social media page for 30 days to show intent not to pursue further conflict, and compensation for damages was paid to Ms. Paeng.

Regarding allegations of physical assault, Ms. Paeng stated these never happened to her. While she acknowledged hearing rumors from close contacts and local residents, she never saw any legal proceedings or lawsuits filed on such charges.

Ms. Paeng explained that the incident involving the LGBT group and the assault allegations are separate matters from her defamation case. The dismissal of her case was unrelated to any assault claims and resulted solely from successful mediation before evidence was even presented in court.

She expressed concern that by conflating different issues, the YouTuber may have caused public confusion, making people believe her case was dropped due to lack of evidence rather than successful settlement. This could damage her credibility by suggesting her original accusations were unfounded.

Regarding the dance competition incident, Ms. Paeng confirmed it occurred when she, as a competition judge, told an LGBT contestant their dancing was "sloppy" and refused to provide feedback. When the contestant approached her for constructive criticism, as is customary in the dance community, the interaction became heated with raised voices and nearly escalated to physical confrontation before others intervened.

Ms. Paeng emphasized that this competition incident and the assault allegations are completely separate from her defamation case. She stressed that her case was dismissed due to successful mediation, not lack of evidence, and expressed concern the public might think she made unfounded accusations.

Ms. Paeng concluded that her recent posts and interview statements were not intended to attack or damage the YouTuber's reputation. She noted that if that were her goal, she would have responded during the initial news coverage. However, since the YouTuber brought up the legal matter first, she felt entitled to clarify the facts relevant to her situation.

Monkey Steals Tourist's Phone, Leaves Behind Selfies

A British teenager's phone was stolen by a monkey at Bali's Uluwatu Temple, but he recovered it to find the primate had recorded videos and taken selfies.

14h ago Khaosod

A British tourist's Bali trip took an unexpected turn when a local monkey snatched his phone and left behind videos and selfies.

In mid-June, 19-year-old Lloyd from England traveled to Bali, Indonesia with his girlfriend, but encountered an unforgettable experience when a local monkey stole his mobile phone right before his eyes.

The couple visited Uluwatu Temple, one of Bali's most famous attractions. Lloyd was taking photos of monkeys to send to friends when he lowered his phone. His girlfriend immediately shouted a warning, but before he could react, a monkey quickly grabbed the device and ran away.

After the monkey fled into the nearby forest, Lloyd and his girlfriend sought help from local staff and used location-tracking apps to find the phone. After more than an hour, officials successfully recovered it.

However, the story didn't end there. When Lloyd checked his phone, he discovered the monkey had recorded one video clip and taken multiple selfies, leaving him both amused and astounded.

Lloyd recalled that before the incident, his girlfriend had jokingly said, "Maybe the monkey will use your phone to take selfies." He never imagined her playful remark would actually come true.

French Woman Arrested in Australia With Drug Precursor in Bottles

A French woman traveling from Thailand was arrested at Perth Airport with bottles of shower cream containing butanediol, a banned chemical that converts to the party drug GHB in the body.

14h ago Khaosod

Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) have announced the arrest of a 31-year-old French woman charged with attempting to smuggle drugs and banned controlled substances into the country. 17 Labor Nurses Pregnant Simultaneously, Breaking Hospital Record

Seventeen delivery room nurses at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio are expecting babies this year, shattering the department's previous record of 11 concurrent pregnancies and creating a supportive community among colleagues.

14h ago Khaosod

Seventeen delivery room nurses at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio are expecting babies simultaneously this year, breaking the department's previous record of 11 concurrent pregnancies. The announcement has generated significant excitement on social media.

Department manager Amberly Sanner explained that staff gradually learned about colleagues' pregnancies over recent months, with numbers increasing steadily until it became a joyful occasion for the entire team.

Of the 17 nurses, 15 participated in a group photo wearing hospital uniforms. Some are expecting their first child, while others are pregnant with their second or subsequent children.

Among them are close friends "Maddie" and "Rileigh," who have worked together in the same department for five years and are both expecting their second child. Rileigh revealed she asked Maddie to assist with her delivery, noting there's no one she trusts more than her daily coworkers.

Although many nurses will take maternity leave over the coming months, the hospital assures that patient care will not be affected. The department employs nearly 200 nurses and support staff, including part-time employees who can provide additional coverage to maintain standard care levels.

Many nurses shared that they regularly exchange pregnancy advice and experiences with one another, and they look forward to their children growing up and playing together in the future.

Thai Central Bank Eyes Four Economic Risks for Second Half

The Bank of Thailand identified four risks threatening the economy in the second half of 2025: high living costs, geopolitical tensions, U.S. trade policy shifts, and El Niño impacts, though the economy remains stable overall despite slowin

15h ago Khaosod

The Bank of Thailand is monitoring four key risk factors that could pressure the Thai economy in the second half of the year: high cost of living, geopolitical uncertainty and U.S. trade policy shifts, and potential impacts from El Niño conditions. Deputy Governor Chayavadee Chaianan revealed Thailand's May 2025 economic outlook, noting the economy remains stable overall despite slowing exports, supported by strong tourism, private consumption, and private investment. Inflation remains elevated but steady, and the labor market continues to show stability.

Tourism revenue and foreign visitor numbers increased, particularly from long-haul markets including Chinese and Malaysian tourists during their respective long holidays. However, tourists from some Southeast Asian countries declined due to weak travel demand and fewer flights caused by rising energy costs.

Exports excluding gold fell from the previous month, especially electronics, jewelry, and automobiles, after rapid growth earlier. This reflects weakening foreign demand, though chemical and some petrochemical exports expanded due to higher commodity prices.

Domestic demand improved slightly, with private consumption rising 0.6% from the previous month as spending on consumer goods and vehicles—particularly cars and electric vehicles—expanded despite high oil prices. Consumer confidence declined, however, due to concerns about living costs, income, and future employment trends.

Private investment increased 1.2% from the previous month, driven by transportation and vehicle investments and machinery imports, though commercial construction slowed. Government spending expanded year-on-year from increased central government current and capital expenditures, especially from ongoing stimulus program disbursements, while state enterprise investment declined due to slower infrastructure and utilities spending.

Manufacturing contracted slightly in line with export slowdown, particularly automotive and electronics production, while services remained stable with tourism supporting retail, hotel, and restaurant businesses. Agriculture saw farmer income rise 5% year-on-year from higher prices for palm oil, rubber, and rice.

General inflation stood at 2.79%, steady from the previous month, as energy prices began falling with global crude oil prices. Core inflation edged up slightly from production cost increases passed to some goods, but no broad-based price increases were detected. The current account deficit was $6.4 billion in May, an improvement from April due to reduced energy imports and lower trade deficits, while the labor market remained stable despite some impacts from Middle East tensions and higher costs affecting hotels and transport sectors.
